Got bit carried away with my analysis earlier. The numbers at 5PM were really optimistic.90 percentage would have been the magic number which could have been considered as a wave election. A net effective increase of 2 % now with final tally standing at 85% is just a normal increase. #WATCH | Chennai | On record high polling in Tamil Nadu elections, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai says, "The polling percentage is higher because the denominator has come down. You brought the number of voters down by introducing SIR, and now you are saying that the polling percentage is higher. This is not unprecedented. It is as per the traditional numbers. It is normal, as in every election, 40-50 lakh eligible voters get added. The CEC taking credit for this is the biggest joke. You should have started SIR two years ago. There are so many stories on social media about people not being able to vote due to this. Right now, the basic idea of SIR is to exclude and not include."

@grok i can understand 80 percent will be on par with last year elections. How about addition of new 14 lakh new voters . Can you consider other possible scenarios like deletion of existing voters and give me a realistic percentage which is not exaggerated. I still feel anything over 85 percentage should be a huge turnaround in voting patterns in the history of TN Elections.We should also factor in the people who are stranded because of transportation issue and are hopefully going to vote in the evening . I am expecting a surge in numbers even close to 88-90 % in the evening. Correct me if i am wrong. We are in for a surprise aren’t we?

In 2021, Chennai district (16 ACs) had 3.866 million electors and 2.394 million votes polled—61.9% turnout. SIR 2026 deleted 1.425 million names from Chennai rolls (deceased: 157k, shifted/absent: 1.25M, multiples: 19k). These were largely on the rolls during 2021. Direct subtraction isn't perfect (rolls added new 18+ voters post-2021 and evolved), but it implies the 2021 list was significantly inflated. Effective turnout on a cleaned base would likely read 75-85% range, not 62%. Exact overlap data isn't public.
