I finally went down the Bittensor rabbit hole. 🐇🕳️ I get why people are hyped. Some are saying $TAO → $3,000 by 2026. Let’s look at a slightly longer horizon: 2028, factoring token inflation. Current: 10.81M TAO → $3.51B market cap 14M TAO circulating: $1K → $14B Network Value $2K → $28B Network Value $4K → $56B Network Value $10K → $140B Network Value $20K → $280B Network Value For perspective, $ETH hit $136.7B in 2018 and it was really only a place to launch ICOs. There wasn't even DeFi as we know it yet, that came in 2020 with Compound and yield farming.

@twcat2010 @blockstream does have a 20 person research team @blksresearch which includes people like @kudinov_mikhail (PhD) who contributed review and repair on the 2024 NIST standard SLH-DSA, implemented SHRINCs in @liquid_btc using simplicity etc. we do know stuff...

@Pledditor @projecteleven @blockstream @blksresearch has 20 person applied cryptography/security team working on this basically full time, you can see that from the pace of R&D output, implementations, BIPs. it's just insulting and FALSE to say bitcoin protocol researchers are "not doing anything".

@adam3us @TheGuySwann the problem is wall street will continue to be worried about it … and that means slower adoption. We need to solve quantum FUD, not quantum, and the only way is to make it resistant (even if we don’t need to).

@TheGuySwann if you pretend no error correction is ok (cheat run it 100,000 times to look for the most selected answer in the noise - which obviously doesn't scale!), i think the current world record for quantum computers is 21=7x3. even then some dispute if they cheated in other ways also.

So guys... has anyone successfully factored a randomly chosen 2 digit number with a quantum computer yet? Because every time i go looking, the answer has been "no."

Saw some people panicking or asking about quantum computing's impact on crypto. At a high level, all crypto has to do is to upgrade to Quantum-Resistant (Post-Quantum) Algorithms. So, no need to panic. 😂 In practice, there are some execution considerations. It's hard to organize upgrades in a decentralized world. There will likely be many debates on which algorithm(s) to use, resulting in some forks. And some dead project may not upgrade at all. Might be a good to cleanse out those projects anyway. New code may introduce other bugs or security issues in the short term. People who self custody will have to migrate their coins to new wallets. This brings to the question of Satoshi's bitcoins. If those coins move, then it means he/she is still around, which is interesting to know. If they don't move (in a certain period of time), it might be better to lock (or effectively burn) those addresses so that they don't go to the first hacker who cracks it. There is also the difficulty of identifying all his addresses, and not confuse with some old hodlers. Anyway, it's a different topic for later. Fundamentally: It's always easier to encrypt than decrypt. More computing power is always good. Crypto will stay, post quantum.
