Is it any surprise that the contract for tree felling goes to retired horti mistry of @PMCPune ?? The nexus and the rot is so deep within PMC that either way they get away with selling timber. Be it in the name of felling or transplanting trees #SaveTreesOfPune @DrRajBhosale

Hello Friends, 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗲 I have been here for the past fifty years — steady, silent, and offering shade through summer, monsoon, and winter. Pedestrians walking down the road would often pause under my shade for a moment’s rest. As they walked through the dappled light filtering through my dense leaves, I could sense their relief. I often heard them say, "Oh God, how cool and soothing this feels!" One day, someone placed a red stone near my trunk, smeared it with vermillion, and turned me into a deity. Since then, I was no longer just a tree — I became a place of faith. An old man would sit under my shade every day with his shoe-polishing kit. I became his home too. But today... today I am deeply restless. A few months ago, someone came and marked a number on my trunk in white paint. They did the same to the trees around me. Officials kept coming and going. I overheard them... "The road needs to be widened, and this tree is an obstacle." In fifty years, have I ever troubled anyone? Has anyone ever been angry with me? On the contrary, when I was planted here, it was the same old Municipal Corporation that cared for me, watered me, nurtured me. And now they say that I am "in the way," and so I, along with others, must be removed. Some wise citizens requested the officials — "Can’t you plan the road around the trees?" But someone retorted, "For traffic, these trees must be removed!" Then others said, "Replant me elsewhere. Uproot me carefully and replant me on some distant hill." But is it really that simple? Today, some workers arrived, supposedly to prepare me for replantation. They ruthlessly chopped off all my branches, leaving me bare and exposed, with just a few scattered leaves clinging on. Tomorrow, my deep, strong roots — rooted in this soil for fifty years — will be cut away. In just a moment, I will be separated from the earth that has been my home. Then, with my few remaining leaves, I will be lifted by a crane and taken far away, to be replanted on a hill somewhere, they say. But who will care for me there? Will I get water regularly? Will my roots ever find strength again? Only God knows. In this desperate situation, with my few remaining leaves, I will try to breathe... And if I cannot survive, my death will simply be recorded as a "failed transplantation." The contractors, the officials — all of them will move on, absolved. What will happen next, no one knows... But dear people, I ask you this — could you not have found a way to let me live here? Hundreds of my brothers, sisters, friends, and kin are about to face the axe. Just because we do not bleed like you, do you think we do not feel pain? Nevertheless, I am forever indebted to those who planted me, watered me, cared for me, and loved me all these years. Today, as I struggle for survival, I promise — I will fight. And if I survive, please come and visit me on that faraway hill. — Your Tree @MAHA_UDD @MahaDGIPR @AUThackeray @MNSSachinK @DrRajBhosale @AjitPawarSpeaks @supriya_sule @PuneRivers @ultra__sonic @PKarve_Samuchit @AngadPatwardhan @ameetgsingh @RupeshKesekar @RohanAaron1 @navipeth @KatYogesh @RahulAsks @_prashantkadam @Meghnarbhandari @pulse_pune @shrikaleLokmat @brizpatil @eeshwari_jedhe @vandymini @mhemachari @jbaphna @each1save2 @vata_foundation @SaxsSathya @gtitli @DevakiKunte @MeeraRotti @vata_foundation @Wangchuk66 #pune #KoregaonPark

🆘🚨🌲🌳🌴Save Ganeshkhind Road’s Heritage Trees — Stop the New Road Widening 🌲🌳🌴🆘🚨 For the second time in 2 years, Pune is watching the same shadow creep over #Ganeshkhind Road. Over 500 mature and heritage trees - banyans, tamarinds, peepals and old-growth giants are again under threat because of a fresh push to widen the road from 36 m to 45 m. These trees are not “obstacles.” They are living infrastructure. They cool our city, anchor its biodiversity, protect its micro-climate, and hold centuries of history in their roots. Mature trees cannot be “replaced” by saplings, and transplanting them has already proven to be fatal in earlier phases across Pune. The December 2023 court directions had clearly asked authorities to follow a sustainable mobility plan and avoid unnecessary tree felling. Yet the same project is being revived, risking another wave of irreversible ecological damage. Instead of widening roads for more private vehicles, Pune needs the opposite: • Better metro ridership, • Reliable bus frequency, • Safe footpaths and cycling tracks, • Efficient last-mile connectivity, • And maintainance of the existing road and flyover and Metro Line 3 infrastructure. We, the citizens, demand: 🍀Immediate cancellation of the proposed Phase-2 road widening on Ganeshkhind Road. Adding One more lane has never solved traffic issue anywhere in the world! 🍀NO FELLING AND TRANSPLANTING OF MATURE AND HERITAGE TREES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES 🍀A shift in priority toward public transport and people-friendly mobility, not private-vehicle expansion. 🍀Full transparency: publish tree surveys, traffic studies, EIAs, and alternative designs publicly. 🍀Adherence to court directives, the Maharashtra Tree Act, and scientific, climate-sensitive planning #SaveGKTreee #SaveTreesOfPune #NoMoreRoads #Pune #SaveHeritageTrees

Kids are gasping while the air turns toxic and the govt stays silent. AQI 400+ isn’t “just smog”. It’s a health emergency. We need a child-focused advisory NOW : clear AQI limits, mask guidance, alerts and real warnings. Stop pretending this is normal. @MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda @CPCB_OFFICIAL @CAQM_Official @gupta_rekha #DelhiAirCrisis #AQI400isNotNormal #InvisibleEmergency
Warrior Moms@Warriormomsin

Delhi’s air is toxic, but there is no public health advisory warming citizens on this public health emergency and telling us how to keep our children safe. The @MoHFW_INDIA’s duty is to protect public health, not to stay silent while AQI hovers above 400. Without official communication, families believe this is a normal day. It is not. Children are running races in hazardous air. Toddlers are wheezing. Paediatric ICUs are filling up again. And yet, no guidance, no warning, no concern. Mothers and parents demand an immediate, child-focused public health advisory⬇️
* Clear AQI thresholds (AQI > 200/300) for when children must stay indoors. * Guidance on safe masks (N95/FFP2) for kids.
* Red flag symptoms needing urgent care.
* Alerts via SMS, schools & health apps. * Paediatricians and general practitioners must be officially advised to screen children for pollution linked asthma, wheezing & low lung capacity during every routine visit.
* Hospitals and clinics should display air-quality alerts and health tips, because families are walking into waiting rooms unaware of the invisible danger outside. * Include real time AQI on medical prescriptions and OPD slips. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/our… @priyangiTOI @timesofindia @JPNadda @CPCB_OFFICIAL @CAQM_Official @gupta_rekha

VC @MrMcgreely #SaveBHSPune Help! Repost & share! Spread the word!! #SaveBHSPune Ganeshkhind Hidden within the bustle of Pune lies a rare sanctuary — a place where the city still breathes through leaves, wings, and whispers of the wild. The Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS) is not just a patch of green; it is a living, pulsating ecosystem, quietly sustaining life that most of us rush past every day. The Biodiversity Heritage Site, functions as a green lung and an ecological classroom, supporting interdependent species and maintaining the delicate balance of Pune’s urban biodiversity. Its preservation is not just about saving trees — it’s about protecting an entire living network that nurtures the city’s air, soil, and climate resilience. 🌿 #SaveTreesOfPune #Pune #Biodiversity 🌿 # SaveBHSPune

🚨 Outrage in #Satara 🚨 A woman doctor serving at a government hospital in Satara district has Allegedly died due to #suicide , leaving behind a suicide note written on her hand. In that chilling note, she accused PSI Gopal Badane of raping her repeatedly over five months, and alleged that another officer, Prashant Bankar, mentally harassed and intimidated her throughout this period. This is not just a crime - it’s a monstrous betrayal of power and trust. When those sworn to protect become predators, the entire system stands guilty. Justice must not just be demanded,it must be delivered. @CMOMaharashtra @DGPMaharashtra #justiceforsataradoctor

Unusual, over past 24 hrs HKB releasing all available inflows in Yamuna while canal share reduced to 0. No official info in public domain when, how decision taken but unofficially its to make river look 'clean' during Chhath in Delhi. Good for river, bad for river governance.

How long before Pawaskar boasts again about his 100% failed pet project of tree transplantation ,just like KP and GK? Maybe Janhvi Dhariwal will soon come up with a way to transplant hills too!
sushma date@sushmadate

PMC Head of Dept Mr Pawaskar seems confident that BB rd will get Environment Clearance from the state, before the environment assessment has even started! Either he has a crystal ball that can predict the future or it's now an established fact that an EC is just another rubber stamp. 🙄

TISS students held a quiet memorial for G.N. Saibaba, a 90% disabled former professor who spent 10 years in jail before being acquitted of Maoist charges. They lit candles, read his poems, and placed his photo on campus. Guards filmed it, and the images reached a right-wing Twitter user, who tagged police. Within an hour, police entered the campus at night. An FIR was filed calling Saibaba a Maoist supporter, charging nine students with unlawful assembly. The named complainant, a TISS official, says her name was used without consent. Police admit no slogans were raised. Students allege laptop seizures and room raids. A peaceful tribute became a criminal case. I only wish and hope, one day, the perpetrators of rape are charged at this speed.

The Solicitor General of India is @PMCPune counsel to fight for the disastrous BB-PP road! And yet the Supreme Court would not give a go ahead for the 2 km road across a verdant hill that will destroy a natural heritage Pune has nurtured and needs desperately in these terrible times when pollution keeps going up. Besides the destruction wrought on a hill and its trees, the road destroys aquifers that feed ground water in the entire Deccan Gym area. It is numbing to realise how political parties in power have not understood the devastation this 100 feet wide road will bring. Even more, its entry and exit points in the DPR are a ready recipe for disaster at the Paud phata and the Balbharati end. It will also take away land from century old pristine institutes such ch as BORI and the ILS. The question to ask is what is fuelling this fetish by the PMC to make this road despite these factors. A single visit by a judge is enough to defeat the basis of the PMC plan. And whatever studies were carried out to study traffic flows are already out of date with the Metro, double decker flyovers and so on. The final piece. It takes 5 to 7 min to travel this 3 km distance at present. And 250 crore tax payer money is being used to make the road by the PMC. @Dev_Fadnavis @mieknathshinde @sushmadate @sumitakale

A twin tunnel from Yeravada to Katraj has been proposed, the PMRDA website says. Has anybody done any preliminary survey before making the proposal, preferably by an urban planner (even a Govt one)? The proposal is already accepted ( on the basis of?) and the stage of examining the feasibility has begun! pmrda.gov.in/projects/engin… In the 1980s a similar proposal arose from the fertile minds of two corporators and the justification for destroying the Law College hill began. Most of the citizen’s energy is expended in ensuring projects emerge out of proper studies and tax payer money is well spent. The politician indulges in knee jerk proposals with an eye on elections! @OfficialPMRDA

❌❌ 🧨🧨🧨 ❌❌ Dear @gupta_rekha Delhi doesn’t need compromise - it needs courage. Please, let Delhi lead by example once again, not relapse into old habits! Why “Green Crackers” Are Not the Answer 1. “Green” is just a label — not a solution. So-called green crackers still emit toxic gases (SO₂, NO₂) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10). Reducing emissions by 20–30% means little when Delhi’s air is already 10–15 times above safe limits. Poison in smaller doses is still poison. 2. Impossible to verify or regulate. There’s no foolproof way to tell real green crackers from fake ones. Once the smoke fills the air, enforcement becomes meaningless — the lungs of our children can’t distinguish labels. 3. Manufacturing and testing lack transparency. Independent testing data is not publicly available. There’s no system to certify or monitor emissions in real time. In short — we don’t know what we’re breathing. 4. Health impact is immediate and severe. Doctors report 30–40% spikes in asthma and cardiac emergencies every Diwali — even when “green crackers” were used. For a child with asthma, even a single spark can mean a sleepless night in the ICU. 5. Delhi’s air cannot take more. During winter, stagnant air traps every particle. Even “reduced” emissions push the city into an air emergency. Every burst adds layers of PM2.5 that stay suspended for days. 6. It sends the wrong message to the nation. Delhi leads — and India follows. Permitting “green crackers” here would undo years of progress and weaken air quality policies across the country. 7. There are safer, joyful ways to celebrate. Festivals are about light, not smoke. We can celebrate with diyas, music, rangoli, and togetherness — not fire and fumes. Say NO to “green crackers.” Say YES to our children’s right to clean air. Because no matter what they’re called -Grey skies will never be green. @CPCB_OFFICIAL @Warriormomsin @WMMaharashtra #RightToBreathe #IsGreyTheNewGreen #MothersForCleanAir
