@kirodotdev I love you guys but can we have more models please. By not bringing new models you are literally asking devs to go find something else

@bowtiedstocks Yes they already are. Big retailers , builder, unis lobby govt to bring more so they can churn in more profits. If the Aus labour market becomes less lucrative for these gig jobs , they will stop. Immigration is ok if its for real highly skilled persons aligned with our values

@bowtiedstocks Honestly we are all to blame ... Indians dont come here to study. Infant they dont think Aus unis are worth paying that much money. The maths work for them by doing cash jobs. Boycott all the businesses employing them, starting from uber eats, 7/11..

My local inner Brisbane park is now full of young Indian men playing a social game of cricket every weekend Never seen this before in my life, anywhere in the world ever (I’ve never been to the subcontinent) Soon every inner Brisbane park will also be blessed with this What are these young men doing here? Probably driving uber while studying a fake degree and sending most of the money home

@AvidCommentator This is so stupid. We were sold uber drivers in the guise of highly skilled workers. There should only be company sponsored PR , with a min pay requirement otherwise the country will go downhill real quick

"Why buy hardware when that money can pay for years of AI subscriptions?" -> "Why buy a house when that money can cover rent for decades?" It’s the exact same logic. Rent will go up eventually. You can always resell hardware later. Think of it as a deposit.

@itechnologynet @TeksEdge Thats kinda point, you cannot host inference of that level anyway. What you would get is a qwen or a slow bigger model. BTW try some of those chinese models , not as good but very close particularly Deepseek at that price

@Colframer @TeksEdge Dunno what prompts you make, but for models like 4.7 & 5.5, (via api) I'm usually doing $20 prompts (not vibe software, or hi how are you, but professional software with workflows, Q&A, etc)

⁉️So get this, AMD is making a bold move to own the affordable personal inferencing market by launching a Mini PC in June, a 128GB Shared Memory Inferencing Box 🎇 They call it the ⬭ Halo Box. 🧾 It's a Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 (16 Zen 5 cores + 40 RDNA 3.5 CUs + XDNA 2 NPU) ✅ Up to 128GB LPDDR5X-8533 unified memory ✅ Full ROCm support + Day-0 AI model optimization 🧪 Built for local AI development (up to ~200B param models) 📈 Direct shot at NVIDIA’s $4,699 DGX Spark and could cost $2,000–$3,000 (as they do now) 🤔 Why launch now during the RAM shortage? While memory makers divert capacity to HBM for AI data centers (driving LPDDR5X prices to spike and NVIDIA to raise the price of DGX Spark by $700), AMD is making a bold move to own the affordable, high-memory AI mini-PC segment before the crisis worsens. 💡 My Speculation: AMD could be using its contracts, relationships, and strategic priority to secure better memory access than many traditional OEMs. This could give them an advantage in launching the Halo Box during the shortage. Smart timing or risky bet? 🔥 This is AMD aggressively fighting for the local AI developer market.

Agents make ugly UIs because they've never seen good design. We've been fixing that, 2,000 DESIGN.md files from the world's best products, structured for a model to read and learn. Colors, type, spacing, layouts and more. Free. styles.refero.design

We're opening an office in Sydney. 🇦🇺 We've been seeing strong pull from teams in the APAC region, especially from companies operating across large geographies, extended hours, and global customer bases. And, we're building our team on the ground. Check the thread to join our founding team in Australia.

Gym session for the father of the indie hacker movement @csallen In 2022 indiehackers.com was my bible. I’d binge founder stories and think I’d be like them someday. And here we are: 3 offsprings of the indien hacker movement: @phuctm97, @jackfriks and me.

@PovilasKorop I mean you have been great and so are your videos but the reality is young people are just not learning PHP or laravel. There are like 0 jobs in Australia. And even more AI is now answering questions so they dont need to learn everything unfortunately

Confession time. Laravel Daily YouTube channel is NOT doing good... With similar amount of content as usual, engagement numbers are WAAAAY down. On the flipside, good news: AI Coding Daily is growing massively! (with similar effort) And I'm not talking about paid courses on Laravel Daily website (that's a separate topic), seems like the interest towards Laravel videos is down. Many reasons: I think, mostly I just ran out of interesting/new topics that would interest the viewers. After 2,000+ videos, that's pretty natural. So, I will still publish videos about new packages and framework features, will still try to find new topics/angles. But I guess big enough critical mass of developers now switched interest to coding with AI tools, and not just Laravel. Which should be good for me, I'm glad to be active part of that new future. Still passionate about educating people and sharing my discoveries, just on another topic!

@arbsmichael This is just on paper.. but to be very honest this heavily depends on the city. Good luck finding a property For a million dollars in any major city in Australia and if you move to small cities , that pay is quite difficult to achieve.

Average ordinary time earnings for full-time adults in Australia is $106,657 per year. The mean price of a residential dwelling is $1,074,700. A 20% deposit (+fees) comes to $284,240. An 80% home loan equals $859,760. Minimum repayments on that loan are about $5,155 per month. The average net income is $6,812 per month. That means mortgage repayments alone consume 76% of net income and 63% of gross income. Spending more than 28–30% of pre-tax income on a mortgage is generally considered ‘mortgage stress’. A bank is unlikely to approve a borrowing request that exceeds 4-5 times gross income. Run the same numbers for a dual-income household where both adults earn the average, and repayments still consume around 38% of combined income. Only with three average incomes (a throuple) does the repayment ratio fall to roughly 25%. And none of the above includes any children, study debts, car loans, or other expenses/liabilities. Something has to give, and it must not be yet another round of taxpayer-funded, demand-side stimuli that inflates prices for the benefit of a small group of buyers (and all existing owners).
