Edinburgh’s Disgraces

@EdiDisgraces

Today’s Edinburgh Disgraces are legion, and much worse than a half built Parthenon. See unending road works, overflowing bins, unmanaged parks and gardens.

@JohnfaeScotland @edinhelp Meanwhile in Pitlochry. ‘One of the first things a tourist sees when they step off a train’…… If Pitlochry can plant its planters why can’t Edinburgh?

Your welcome to Edinburgh as you step off the tram. Picardy Place - the City's finest collection of weeds and dead trees.

@Holledge @theSpurtle Lidl has dwarf fruit trees for £11.95 at the moment. I could donate some prolific and hardy Geranium ground cover - keeps most of the weeds down. Some Red Valerian too is attractive and prolific and copes with being dry.

'WAITING FOR PICARDY!': I'm minded to write a play for performance in the Fringe. 3 council officers sit in wheelie bins confronting an unresolvable existential crisis. They have a budget of £1.8 billion but can't find £39.95 to buy a tree in B&Q. @theSpurtle

PICARDY PLACE 1 year on. What do we see? 4 DEAD TREES! Planted in October 2023? @cllr_jenkinson at @NTBCC thought they might be sleeping: sadly they are no more, they've passed on, ceased to be, they rest in peace, they're ex-trees — or fossils? @theSpurtle

I think we all have much to thank @Malcolm_Offord for this week. I hope you have all enjoyed the "I'm poorer than you" competition among other Scottish politicians this week as much as I have. It's just a shame that they mostly want to extend it to country level.

What an extraordinary life I get to live. Got on the tube yesterday and sat next to a very colourful, fabulous man called Danny, Danny the bass player to be precise. Great chat and just as I’ve leaving he pulls up his sleeve and shows me this. You’re a legend Danny Sapko @DannySapkoBass

Six months ago, the SNP first promised GP walk-in centres. Four of them are already open, with the fifth opening this week. The SNP has a plan to deliver 30 across Scotland. Other parties shout over @JohnSwinney and try to stop him from making it easier for you to see a GP.

@HeatherSNP @theSNP The price of a loaf of bread in Lidl today ranges from 35p to £1.99. There are a wide range of types of bread just in this store. What will you actually price cap and will it reduce choice? Ie just the SNP loaf on offer?

🛒 @theSNP will cap the price of essential foods in large supermarkets. People are struggling to put food on the table and Westminster is nowhere to be seen. @theSNP's price cap will ensure people can afford the essentials for a balanced diet. Make it #BothVotesSNP on 7th May.

Angus Robertson moved out of Edinburgh Central, but kept very quiet about it. Explains (but does not excuse) his failure to do regular face to face surgeries.

@JanHarp19131150 @BBCPM @Docstockk There are a lot of security personnel but the principle of public access - to lobby their MP - is important. New constraints only done in response to events, eg white powder thrown on Tony Blair from public gallery results in plastic screen installed.

@EdiDisgraces @BBCPM @Docstockk Thanks for the reply, I suppose in the interest of transparency that should be a thing , security must be a nightmare though.

The man who captivated the internet as he sat behind Sir Olly Robbins at a parliamentary hearing says he's "just a bloke" who loves politics. Andrew Edwards says he wants to encourage other people to go out and engage with politics and current affairs in real life.

The @energygovuk Ofgem review is out today. It says will strengthen its ability to take firms to court and hold energy exec firms to account. Let's hope so. We need to see a quicker more nimble regulator that can protect consumers (and widen regulation eg to include heating oil)
Martin McCluskey MP@martinmccluskey

Today we’re launching the final report of the Ofgem review. We’re making sure consumers are put first in the energy market. A stronger regulator will act as a consumer champion, focus on economic growth and prioritise net zero for the very first time.
