He does this as a judgment. Who are the nations brought against Jerusalem? The same nations brought against the harlot in Revelation 17 - the nations she oppresses. Who are these nations? The scripture covers this too indirectly by listing the nations that come under judgment. A condensed list that lumps common groups (such as Chaldeans = Babylonians and Gaza=Ashkelon=Cherethites=Philistines) together lands at these people-groups being the Edomites, Cushites (Lebanon), Philistines, Egyptians, Syrians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Moabites, Ammonites, and Libya. Let's get something clear. This war isn't about Jew vs. Muslim vs. Christian. It's about Jacob being in rebellion against God, being the most tumultuous and abusive people in the world (Ezekiel 5:5-12) bringing God's wrath down upon themselves through their oppression of their neighbors who then have a brief moment when they turn on and conquer their oppressors. Those oppressed nations then take things farther than God's judgment requires and He steps in to save a remnant and reveal Himself to the larger world through appearing directly in front of the gathered armies. The other part is Great Britain, the first empire that helped establish the modern political state of Israel. Try reading more than just Daniel and Revelation.

You should spend more time reading the description of the beast in Revelation 17. It straight up tells you the heads are former, current, and future rulers of the empire. That number relates to one such ruler as well as the empire itself. Revelation 13:3 tells you one of those heads was dead and yet lived, causing the world to follow the beast. That head that was dead and lived is modern Israel. The man of 666 is the one who leads Israel prior to the Day of the Lord. As for the meaning of 666 - that's a riddle. The words "wisdom" and "understanding" tell us it's coded language, which means full interpretation will be somewhat speculative. Read the post I linked. I gave you a lot of biblical analysis and references breaking all this down. Go read and then we can talk.
