@isaacfrench_ You would never hit $10k in demand - the worst case would be ~$3k. Tesla V3 cabinets are ~387kVA.

Just got our first power bill for our new tesla superchargers & we’re in trouble. Fast chargers won’t fail because of the tech. They’ll fail because of policy, unless the Idaho Public Utility Commission can step up - which I’m believing for.

Here’s the deal: Power companies charge businesses not just for electricity used, but for how much power they might need at once. That’s called a “demand fee” - and it could crush us. We just got the first power bill, and our chargers averaged 164 kW this mo. After the first 20 kW, the utility charges $8 per kW. That’s $1,152/month in demand feels alone - before paying for a single kwh of actual electricity. If all 4 of our chargers ran at full power, the demand fee alone would be $10,400/month. Same chargers. Same energy. Just a bigger bill. Idaho has a pilot program that fixes this, which charges us a flat $625/mo base fee with no demand charge, even if we run 24/7. That predictability is what will make rural fast charging viable - or not…

But the program could expire in less than a year. Idaho: if you want EV infrastructure in rural communities - infrastructure we’ve already invested our own capital to build - don’t let this die.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. 🙏

We just built & opened the 3rd (I think) privately-owned supercharger in the country! …right across the street from The Pie Safe - our family’s artisan bakery & creamery in the 110-yr-old ford garage we restored in the tiny town of Deary, Idaho (population 510). Opens up a whole new lane of traffic (literally) in our effort to revitalize the town, which is 2 hrs from an interstate or major city/airport. And speaking of the town, we’ve now completely restored & opened businesses in the following buildings: - craft butcher shop (old merc bldg) - quilt/handcrafts shop (old appliance store) - artisan bakery & pizza (old ford garage) - award-winning creamery (also old ford garage) - boutique hotel (old train depot & caboose) - unique stay Car 306 (old rail car in the mountains nearby) - historic farmhouse stay & barn wedding venue (crumbling farm we bought in the country nearby) - and more coming… It takes a village (to restore a village). huge thank you to all our friends & community who’ve partnered & been great neighbors in this story. And thank you @Tesla for this opportunity! Time to plan a visit (the pastries are out of this world). We’d love to see you in 2026!

@dictionaryhill @isaacfrench_ Certainly an early adoption learning curve. Next time we'll read the 100+ page PUC tariff instead of relying on consultations with the utility and the supplier.

@isaacfrench_ I’m disappointed to hear this and I hope Idaho fixes the problem but also at the same time how could you have not known this was the case on the ground before you built them? Did some policy change in Idaho after you had already started the process? Or did you fail in planning?

@isaacfrench_ @isaacfrench_ the 10k calculation is wrong. Peak load of 387 kW cabinet x 8 = $3,096 demand charge in a worst case scenario. Many parts of the USA have demand charges higher than $10 per kW. This is a widespread issue.

@isaacfrench_ @wholemars Did anyone from Tesla selling you these stations go over this probability with you before buying them?

@isaacfrench_ Agreed that affordable and predictable electricity costs are crucial to economic viability of public charging sites. Curious why this site is not already using Avista’s Schedule 23 DCFC Pilot rate?

I’m a couple days late to this party, but this is a phenomenal manifesto on the importance of beautiful physical space in the AI age by my friend @isaacfrench_ He perfectly articulates the antidote to the digital yuck & physical blandness so many of us feel

After 2 days of driving made it to the @PieSafeCharging supercharger! Incredibly beautiful drive up here and the town is just as nice. Food across the street is pretty good too!

@WaywardRabbler A lot of the folks who work at that bakery are part of a local Christian church. Would love to have a coffee and answer your questions sometime, if you’re ever interested.

I always assumed they were Mennonites its apparently some sort of new age back to the land movement from NYC in the 70s that merely dress like Anabaptists. I dont really know anything about them

Tesla should run a Supercharger stall design contest. The community could submit and vote on their favorite graphic or artwork on X, and the winning design would be installed on a future Supercharger stall, or replace one of the face plates at a Tesla Diner Supercharger stall⚡️

Another business has purchased @Tesla Superchargers, and they have some of the coolest designs yet. They're open to the public. Each Supercharger stall has a local tree on it. Up to 325kW charging speed. Charging price: $0.39/kWh. Basically these are white label Tesla Superchargers that any business can buy, but they are managed and maintained by Tesla, and they still show up in Tesla’s in car nav when routing. All EVs that have access to Tesla's NACS network can charge here 24/7. "The Pie Safe Supercharger" is located across the street from The Pie Safe - an artisan bakery & creamery in Deary, Idaho. Great spot @PieSafeCharging!

We wept bitterly putting this together... Charlie Kirk did not fear death. Charlie told us what his legacy would be. Charlie's greatest passion was his faith in Jesus Christ. Just hours before he was assassinated, Charlie stood on stage, openly proclaiming his love for Jesus Christ. Unafraid, unwavering, and full of conviction. He lived every moment guided by that faith, and in the end, he was taken home by his Savior. Charlie is a true Christian martyr. His example is not just inspiring, it is a call to all of us. To stand firm in our beliefs, to shine light into darkness, speak truth and to live boldly in our faith. Charlie showed us what it means to live, and die, with purpose. This is the legacy he leaves...
