It’s not suppressed — schools are starting to teach it. Curriculum takes time to evolve. No one’s hiding the “ugly,” it’s just finally being taught properly after generations of silence. Calling that propaganda is lazy. Find something better to do — read a book, learn from something other than AI, or better yet, befriend a First Nations person and actually learn something real.

Yup — our ancestors fought, traded, and took captives like people everywhere else for thousands of years. It wasn’t plantation slavery; it was a status and household system tied to chiefs and potlatch economies, and it varied by nation. Crazy to think anyone believes this was some big secret — get with the program. Glad to see folks in the comments finally wanting to learn about our people.

I am feeling outraged, and filled with sadness. I regard my family with love and respect, and am thankful that, as a white male that married into a First Nation family, they welcomed me with open arms. I do not take that for granted, and I try to be respectful of their values and perspectives. I want to be crystal clear, the comments made by BC Conservative candidate Marina Sapozhnikov regarding indigenous people are reprehensible and I do not condone them or share those views in any way shape or form. The only way real and meaningful reconciliation can happen is with genuine conversations, shared learnings and mutual respect.
