Good Afternoon Uganda! Good Afternoon Africa! Today we launch the Hydroxyurea treatment, a life-saving medication used in the management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). This initiative marks a significant milestone in improving access to affordable and effective treatment for thousands of Ugandans affected by the condition. The launch comes at a time when sickle cell disease remains a major public health challenge in Uganda, with an estimated 20,000 babies born with the condition each year. UPDATE: Uganda is set to begin local manufacturing of sickle cell drugs following the launch of the Hydroxyurea Manufacturing Facility by Quality Chemical Industries in Luzira.
