As a youth leader, my heart is full to overflowing. Today at #TheGCommunity Day in Katwe, young people who the world often overlooks sit at the same table as us, beating us at chess, laughing louder than the noise of the city and reminding every adult in the room what real strength looks like. Seeing my peers (some still teenagers themselves) become big brothers and sisters in seconds, kneeling on the ground, listening, cheering and proving that leadership isn’t about age; it’s about showing up with love. This is the youth I believe in: The ones who choose kindness over comfort. The ones who turn a dusty corner into sacred ground. The ones who refuse to let any child feel invisible. Katwe didn’t just host champions and givers today; it raised them. My heart is full because the future is being built by the bravest generation I know and I get to walk beside them. Hon. Ayume Mubaraka stated that unemployment was a significant challenge for Uganda's youth, particularly in Koboko, due to misconceptions about the youths and corruption in government systems. He went ahead to highlight that no young person from Koboko had been included in the service commission responsible for verification and work allocation. To address this, he recommended that youth be included in the service commission and in recruitment processes. Additionally, Hon. Ayume suggested providing entrepreneurial support to young people in Koboko through access to bank loans. However, he noted that the collateral requirements posed a significant barrier, and therefore, collateral levels should be assessed and revised to enable young people to access small loans. Lastly, he emphasized the need for labour and business reforms in Koboko. He proposed setting up small standard enterprises, allowing investors to operate in wholesale and enabling youths to operate in retail, given the limited capital in the area. #YouthParliamentUG
