President Trump proposes declaring victory and retreating. That's better than seizing islands, but it has to be accompanied by negotiations with Iran and some new deal to open up the Strait of Hormuz. Otherwise, Trump will simply have stirred a hornet's nest, enriched Russia, hurt Europe and Asia -- and then moved on.

Space Quest I: The Sarien Encounter celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Congratulations, Roger! Released in 1986, it was the first of six games in the Space Quest franchise, centered around the bumbling space "hero" Roger Wilco, who keeps getting entangled in intergalactic plots. Like most Sierra adventure games, Space Quest was unforgiving - you'd die quickly if you weren't careful, and sometimes you simply had to figure things out through trial and error. I never found that frustrating (even though others often criticize it); it only made reaching the next screen more rewarding. In my opinion, Space Quest (together with Leisure Suit Larry) was the funniest series in the Sierra universe, packed with inside jokes and a great sense of humor (ZZ Top at the end of the video clip is just one example). Roger really was one of a kind! Just don't push that bu... ah, too late!

@FENTCOM Wow. You found assholes on the internet and then turned it into a narrative against half the country. People say the cracking journalism of the legacy media of the last years is dead... But they didn't count on heroes like you to keep it alive.

FENTCOM Update The French soldier ADC Arnaud Frion killed last night in Iraq, had participated in the rescue and evacuation of U.S. Special Forces who had fallen into a deadly ambush in Tongo Tongo, Niger, in 2017 (4 KIA, 2 WIA). MAGA repays the favor by mocking his death.

@MattModderno excellent. Also, though I want to give Brian Keefe a chance next year (as I think he deserves it and is a deecent coach)....would you pull the trigger on hiring Rod Strickland if he gets far in the tourney with LIU? (though I suppose he is already 60 years old)

I can't remember the last time there was such a giant disconnect over a candidate between online (mostly BlueSky) Dems and Democratic voters. And it's not like Maine voters don't know about the tattoo or other controversies -- Platner gets asked about it all the time. They just listen to and accept his answer instead of unquestionably QTing outlets with a clear ideological agenda. All I'd say is - try listening to the guy. He sat down for our interview wearing an Anti-Fascist Knitting Club t-shirt, talked about how his first community organizing project was fighting an anti-trans school board takeover, and got emotional discussing the horrors of war. If he's a Nazi, he's really fucking bad at it. If you don't like his policy positions or don't think he's electable, vote for Mills. I like her too. But if you're gonna accuse him of being a Nazi, at least try to find a single thing he's actually said or a view he's expressed that in any way aligns with far right (or even just right-wing) political views.

@iwasnevrhere_ How on Earth is the Industrial based so « hollowed out » when we spend so many hundreds of billions of dollars on the every thing every year. Where the hell does the money go?

The Pentagon has burned through so many missiles in the Iran exchange that Trump is dragging Lockheed and Raytheon CEOs into the White House like a failing factory boss demanding overtime. The military admits the Iran strike consumed more long-range munitions than 4 years of Ukraine. Trump is posting fantasies about “unlimited supply” while Raytheon can barely promise to “eventually” reach 1,000 Tomahawks a year and the Pentagon only budgeted 57 for 2026. The industrial base is so hollowed out they’re threatening contractors with punishment if they don’t ramp up, even though the system physically can’t produce at wartime tempo. America just showed the world that one regional confrontation with Iran drained decades of planning assumptions.
Thomas Keith@iwasnevrhere_

The empire fired off its arsenal trying to intimidate Iran, and all it achieved was exposing the hollow core of American power. A superpower doesn’t scramble for a bailout because a regional state answered back. A superpower doesn’t call defense CEOs to the White House like panicked paramedics around a dying patient. This is what strategic exhaustion looks like. Tehran absorbs the blows and responds with precision. Washington burns through decades of stockpiles in 72 hours and then passes the hat around Capitol Hill. The mask is slipping.

You are mentally ill Ben. Rubio never said that Israeli strikes were the reason for the operation itself. He said they were the reason for the timing of the operation, not the justification for it. That explanation came in the second part of his speech, and it had nothing to do with Israel’s actions.

@SaysSimulation This is not just a US problem, the entire West (except for maybe South Korea) has allowed its defense industrial base to atrophy to the point where it’s barely capable of replacing training and maintenance stocks.
