@qualiascript First of all, those bands (and most default Democrats) don’t actually stand for what they say they do. They got parlor-tricked by a machine that painted itself blue.

Yes, research across dozens of studies and meta-analyses (including representative samples from multiple countries) shows modest correlations between Big Five traits and political orientation. Higher Openness to Experience links to liberal/left-leaning views. Higher Conscientiousness links to conservative/right-leaning views. Other traits (like Agreeableness or Neuroticism) show weaker or inconsistent ties. Effect sizes are small (~0.05-0.10), so personality influences but doesn't determine politics—plenty of exceptions exist.

@agraybee You know Bari Weiss isn't a conservative right? The real story here is that people don't want actually fair and balanced news. They want to have their biases confirmed.

Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)
Bari Weiss and her fellow travelers are desperate to believe that there are fully domesticated and housebroken conservatives out there who are dying for hard news on woke campuses, and they'll go broke trying to prove the myth is true.

“CBS Evening News” viewership has fallen below 4 million since Tony Dokoupil took over as anchor. By comparison, ABC’s “World News Tonight” draws nearly 8.48 million viewers. variety.com/2026/tv/news/c…

Follow the argument, Graham. And try not to assume things I didn’t say or suggest. The other guy said I voted for a “sex offender”. By verifying he voted for Biden, I provided info that showed that Biden was (if you assume his assertion re: Trump was true) also a “sex offender”. That’s why I brought it up. I’m not mocking anybody. Not here, anyway.

Conservatives aren’t necessarily wrong abt James Talarico. His faith doesn’t challenge any element of the secular progressive social agenda. That’s wrong and seems like a political gimmick. The problem is they’ve lost credibility by failing to apply a biblical standard to Trump.

@nurse_ghost Using the F-word and quoting Cremer is just an announcement that you hate what the Bible clearly teaches. God created us. He loves us. And He gave us the Bible to help us.

The Talarico campaign is just Satan doing a heat-check, like an NBA journeyman who has hit a few in a row hoisting one from the logo. “I’ve deceived the masses about feminism, globalism, and socialism. Now let’s see if I can convince church-goers this guy is a Christian.”

So this guy is anti-meat, anti-guns, anti-free speech... and he's running in TEXAS?! It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him.

@dilanesper The point is that it is better for the US to win than to lose, regardless of whether you think the war should have started. Winners may lose, but they lose less than the losers. If you run away because they closed Hormuz, then you have permanently ceded control to the ayatollahs.

in addition to McCarthyism here (thinking the war was wrong is not "rooting against the US"), note the analysis of war as sports- zero sum, with a winner and a loser. War is negative sum-- even the "winners" lose. This simplistic thinking is why our war discourse stinks.
Avi Frisch@frischa

@ProfDBernstein @TimothyDSnyder What are all these geniuses going to say in a month when the war is won? How did it become acceptable to root for the US to lose a war because you hate the president? Even in Iraq, I don’t recall people rooting for Saddam or for the insurgency.

He took the greatest military force in world history, lost a war to a middle power in a week, begged the world to save him, and demanded that the media lie about this and everything else. I try, but at a simple human level I do not see how anyone can mistake this man’s almost supernatural weakness for strength. His weakness is something negative, gravitational, so deep that it can draw in a whole country. But only if we fail to see it. Only if we let it.

@writeadambloom @NextBestPicture Which is to say, I want to get away from taking the Oscars too seriously as a measure of greatness. Yes Oscar sometimes gets it right, but so what? A gem like, say, West Side Story was always set to be a well-loved classic even if it hadn't won the statue.

@writeadambloom @NextBestPicture That seems likely. Still, looking back at previous Best Picture winners, there have been forgettable movies among them since early on. (there's no accounting for taste and people will disagree on specifics, but look through the list and you'll find some question marks)

The SAVE act requires *proof of citizenship* to register to vote. That can be a passport, an enhanced DL or some combination of other documents. A regular DL is fine for voting. Again, I'm asking, what's the problem here? Proof of citizenship? Or the burden to prove citizenship? Or something else?

How so? If one is a political conservative, one has certain key policy priorities. Which of the two viable presidential candidates do you believe would be most likely to enact policies - and nominate judges - that would more closely match those policy priorities? Did *you* vote for the candidate *less likely* to do those things that you support?

@McCormickProf We don't have marriage anymore. We have universal civil concubinage. We either need to completely update out civil laws for that fact or go back to the old definitions in practice.

Ideas have consequences. Abandoning the concept of marriage as a conjugal partnership and redefining marriage as a form of sexual-romantic companionship or domestic partnership had consequences. They were predictable--and predicted. encounterbooks.com/books/what-is-…
