France had an anti-piracy system called HADOPI to stop people from illegally downloading movies and music, but on April 30, 2026, France’s highest court ruled that the main part of this system is illegal. It broke European rules on privacy and human rights. The system sent warnings to internet users suspected of sharing files, and the court said it did not protect people’s private information well enough. The new agency, called Arcom, can still block big pirate websites, but the warnings and fines for ordinary people are mostly finished. This is a big win for groups that defend digital rights after 17 years of work.

Warhorse Studios, the developers behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, have addressed ongoing rumours that they are working on a Lord of the Rings video game. Content director Ondřej Bittner responded to a direct question about the project by saying: “I cannot disclose details but I can tell it is a huge, immersive RPG.” Community manager Tom Grey added that the studio cannot comment on future projects at this time. The speculation began in late March when industry insider claimed credible sources indicated Warhorse is developing a big-budget open-world Lord of the Rings RPG for Embracer Group, which owns both the Middle-earth gaming rights and the studio itself. Warhorse confirmed they are remaining in the RPG genre and plan to reveal their next project in the near future.

@flobries @Tyr808 @Pirat_Nation Well, if you go for M-Discs and good storage conditions, you'll far exceed HDDs' lifespan. Now price-wise, M-Discs are a bit more expensive than regular ones or HDDs on a per-TB basis. But hey, since HDDs pricing is ramping up and won't just stop there...

Valve is bummed about the delay of its new Steam Machine. The small gaming PC was supposed to launch early in 2026. Supply chain problems with memory and storage parts have pushed back the release date. A Valve designer named Lawrence Yang said, “Obviously we’re bummed that this is the state of things.” The company is working hard to fix the issues and keep the price as good as possible.

My understanding is that data centers are using an ENOURMOUS amount of cold storage at the moment. For the operating side they’ll need good NVMEs, but on the cold storage side it’s purely just whatever route leads to better byte per dollar. Not sure if things will ever really improve given that old prices for HDDs were basically due to the business market abandoning them in favor of SSDs leaving most of the mechanical market to consumers, especially old data center drives where they were happy to sell them for anything instead of just throwing them away. Seagate and WD are booked until the end of 2028 and it seems like the best case scenario is prices stabilizing at $15-20 per TB

@Tyr808 @Pirat_Nation I bought a blu-ray burner 2 weeks ago because HDDs too are expensive as hell now, even that is going extinct since late 2025/early 2026. What a coincidence, even unrelated storage solutions are shut down at the same time 🤨🤔

Not just memory anymore either. Anyone check the price of storage lately? Even shitty HDDs are WAY up, it’s not just nand. I was looking at getting a new HDD, drives that were $89 2 years ago are $250+ I feel for Valve because it doesn’t look like there’s a realistic solution. Even if they wanted to sell it at a loss for the sake of gaming, the market would scoop every unit up for non-gaming since it’s just a PC. Similar to how Sony ended up subsidizing government supercomputers that were clusters of PS3s running Linux once upon a time.

L'élève qui m'a envoyé ça me dit qu'au premier semestre, elle a également eu des cours « anti-extrême droite » pour que les élèves utilisent « correctement leur droit de vote » et que « l'Europe continue à être démocratique ». En L1 on lui expliquait dans certains cours à quel point le programme du RN était « anti constitutionnel » et que tout ce qui se passait mal en France était « la faute de l'extrême droite ». L'université doit être un lieu d'enseignement et non de propagande gauchiste.
