“Lawyering on the Eve of War” is a must-read. It powerfully exposes how lawyering and legal narratives were mobilized to justify and enable genocide in #Tigray. insight.dickinsonlaw.psu.edu/cgi/viewconten…

Subject: Urgent Warning Against Another War in Tigray Dear @_AfricanUnion @antonioguterres @POTUS @amnestyusa @IntlCrimCourt @UKinEthiopia @EU_Commission @HouseForeign @IGADsecretariat @CanadaEthiopia @SecMarcosR5215 I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring your urgent attention to the grave situation unfolding in Tigray, where the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHRC) is strongly warning against another round of war. The people of Tigray and their leading party, the People's Liberation Front of Tigray (TPLF), have consistently pursued peaceful dialogue despite enduring unimaginable suffering. For years, they have advocated for resolving all differences through political means, rejecting violence even in the face of genocide. Their commitment to peace is unwavering. Despite the Pretoria Agreement and ongoing calls for dialogue facilitated by the African Union, the Ethiopian government has violated these accords. Militants occupying about 40 percent of Tigray’s constitutional sovereign land have launched attacks against the Ethiopian government, further escalating tensions. Since last week, violence has surged, leading to tragic loss of life. Currently, the Ethiopian government appears to be pushing Tigray toward yet another devastating war. The UNHRC has expressed strong concerns about the potential for renewed conflict. The Tigrayan people and the TPLF continue to strive for a lasting ceasefire and a sustainable peace agreement. They do not desire further bloodshed but seek genuine negotiations under the framework of the Pretoria Agreement. I urge the international community to recognize the severity of this situation and support peaceful efforts to bring about an end to the conflict. The future of Tigray and its people depends on a commitment to dialogue and respect for peace. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. #PeaceForTigray Sincerely, @BerhanuAsres

Reading Ethiopia’s War Signals. "A state of maximum alert and artillery convoys heading north does not feel like posturing. Logistics rarely lie, and armies do not redeploy across half a country without intent. It is extraordinarily perilous" martinplaut.com/2026/02/17/rea…

#Türkiye’s President Erdoğan to visit #UAE, #Ethiopia next week Addis Abeba – Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ethiopia next week as part of a two-nation tour according to Türkiye’s Communications Bureau. The bureau said President Erdoğan will first travel to Abu Dhabi on Monday, where he is expected to meet with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Discussions are anticipated to focus on expanding cooperation between Türkiye and the UAE, as well as regional and global developments. On Tuesday, President Erdoğan will arrive in Addis Abeba at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed. The Communications Bureau noted that several agreements and documents whose negotiations have been finalized are expected to be signed during the visits. The announcement comes amid heightened regional attention over the ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan. Earlier this month, Türkiye’s Ambassador to the United States, Sedat Önal, reaffirmed Ankara’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Speaking at an event involving the Sudan Humanitarian Fund at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, DC, Ambassador Önal said Türkiye considers Sudan’s stability “critically important” for the wider region. He emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of ending the war and reiterated Ankara’s support for regional and international efforts aimed at resolving the conflict. The visit also comes days after a Reuters investigative report alleged that Ethiopia is hosting a training camp for fighters linked to Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Benishangul-Gumuz region near the Sudan border. The report, which cited diplomatic, security, and government sources as well as satellite imagery analysis, suggested the facility could supply new recruits to the RSF as fighting continues in Sudan. Ethiopian authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations.
