Every test under this administration is a calibrated strike against complacency, reinforcing that America’s arsenal remains the ultimate guarantor of global order.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump announces that he has instructed the “Department of War” to resume the testing of nuclear weapons, in response to testing programs by other countries, citing both China and Russia. The last nuclear test by the United States was carried out on September 23, 1992, at the Nevada Test Site.

This directly contradicts the commitments I secured from Trump nominees — and the opinion of Administration officials who certify our nuclear stockpile — who’ve told me explosive nuclear testing would not happen & is unnecessary. I’ll fight to stop this.

@MilesPomper Some items of note: This was 2022. The WG Pu was deemed "detectable" by a US lab, but how much is that? Third, the USG has incentives to keep smugglers guessing in order to catch them, so we probably won't find out if this was significant. But yes, dramatic details.
