Multiculture is just another word for Empire. Empires can't be governed by democracy. We discarded the melting pot and then later discovered that's where we kept the democracy.

If I had to go home to convert my O-1 genius visa into a greencard, it would completely derail my career. Not even worth applying at that point. The process for a greencard is 1 to 2 years. The O-1 lasts 2 to 3 years. Just say you don’t want high skill immigration
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

“just buy a used car” they said. so here’s what a used car looks like in 2026: 2015 Honda Civic — $14,000 2016 Toyota Camry — $16,000 2017 Ford F-150 — $28,000 these are used cars. with 100k+ miles. that need work. a new car in 2010 cost $28,000. the advice didn’t change. the market did. and now people are signing 7 year loans on used cars they didn’t want just to get to work. “just buy used” was solid advice. it died somewhere around 2021 and nobody updated the script.

@MichaelTLester The US embargos Cuba because the Cubans who fled Cuba form a very strong special interest group in the US, and they control the US' behavior toward Cuba. They want to punish Cuba for commandeering their lands and businesses 67 years ago.

I had almost 300 responses to my Cuba post. The most common reply was: "Because communism." Okay. Let's accept that as true. Communism is a failed economic system. Cuba's government is repressive. Castro was a dictator. Now answer the question: Why does punishing ordinary Cubans with a 67-year embargo serve American interests? If the goal is freedom for the Cuban people, starvation is a strange way to free them. If the goal is regime change, it hasn't worked in 67 years. If the goal is to help Cubans, lifting the embargo costs us nothing and gives them everything. The communism answer explains why we don't like Cuba. It doesn't explain the embargo. Try again.

Honestly pretty devastating. Founders can't afford to leave the country while managing a billion dollar company. This will also affect many employees who are some of the top scientists in the world in their specialty, working on mission critical tech for the US. Sad day.

Feeling robbed of my path to citizenship right now after grinding a PhD and contributing to foundational AI + computing technologies for the United States for the past ~ 10 years. Feels like robbing top and technologists like me of the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.
Theo - t3.gg@theo

This sucks. America should welcome greatness. Builders, innovators, and creators should have a fast path to citizenship. I can’t fathom why we would make life harder for founders starting billion dollar companies that want to anchor themselves in the US.

@DHSgov So... an alien who is in the U.S. temporarily, let's say flew in as a tourist, falls in love and wants to get married right away, should also be forced to go back first and apply to marry then, or what?

@grok - my wife is a 4th year PhD candidate from Iran who does not yet have her green card her research is dedicated to improving sustainable infrastructure in the US after graduating does this mean my wife will need to leave the US to apply for her green card? Her visa does not allow for re-entry, so it sounds like she will be out of the US for a long time, maybe even years?

What an unbelievably cruel and destructive policy. The U.S. used to compete for the best talent in the world. Now it’s pushing people away and forcing scientists and other talented people who are already in the U.S. LEGALLY to risk going back to countries like Russia, China, and Iran. It was NEVER about illegal immigration.

Vladimir Putin: "I want the ordinary citizens of Western countries to hear me." "You are being persistently told that all your current difficulties are the result of hostile actions by vicious Russia, and that you must pay for the fight against a mythical Russian threat out of your own pockets. All of this is a lie." "The truth is that the problems you are facing now are the result of years of actions by the ruling elites of your own countries... their mistakes, short-sightedness, and ambition. They do not think about how to improve your lives; they are obsessed with their own selfish interests and excessive profits."

Sure, the reasons why this has happened are known. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s significantly more difficult for the younger generation to own a home today than it was for you in the 80s. Saying “cry me a river” to the younger generation that complains about it isn’t a great look.

The generational disconnect between asset prices and reality that exists between Boomers and Zoomers is insane. Case in point: A few months ago, the cheapest house for sale in my home town was a formerly abandoned cape cod home that was the site of a brutal unsolved murder 20 years ago. Someone had bought the husk, flipped it, and sold the thing for $320,000. That was your entry level home where I live, a literal haunted house. Americans over the age of 50 have no idea what “asset price inflation” does to younger generations. My parents constantly talk about their $150,000 home and their 2% mortgage when we discuss finances, and it just blows my mind that such a thing was ever even possible.

@MattNellans @TheRaybender @RogerMockin @ChristianHeiens He says it's worth $1.2 million now, so it probably was a mansion. x.com/TheRaybender/s…
raybender@TheRaybender

@_dabblinj @RogerMockin @ChristianHeiens Yes, this is all correct. Zillow says my old house is now worth $1.2M But irrelevant. My point was that today's interest rates are multi-generational average. The problem, rather, is horrible dollar devaluation along with incomes that haven't kept pace.
