Location: Dehradun, Uttarakhand "We will not allow a Muslim-owned shop to operate in a Hindu neighborhood." Hindutva activists threatened a Muslim shopkeeper who has been running his business for 25 years and demanded that he close the shop located in a Hindu area. A Muslim shopkeeper alleges that on June 18, a group of people entered his shop, assaulted him, vandalized the premises, shouted communal slogans, and threatened to kill him. Despite a police complaint, no concrete action was taken. He reopened the shop on July 9 following assurances from the Superintendent of Police, but alleges that some individuals returned and declared, "We will not allow a Muslim-owned shop to operate in a Hindu neighborhood." Amidst the ensuing tension, the police had to be called, and the shopkeeper was forced to close his shop once again.
