ICE is completely out of control. We can’t have a rogue, masked police force separating families and terrorizing our communities.  Not one penny more for ICE.

Trump gets a $1.8 billion slush fund for his loyalists and supporters. Congressional Republicans want to write a blank check to ICE. And what do you get? The corruption and lawlessness is out of control.

Across America, ICE's reign of lawlessness continues. Yesterday ICE agents in New Jersey used pepper spray against American citizens, including my friend @SenatorAndyKim, outside an ICE detention facility. Americans have the right to peacefully assemble, and Members of Congress have the right and duty to conduct oversight of ICE facilities. We cannot allow the Administration to operate ICE as a paramilitary strike force for the President’s political agenda.

Fact check: False ⭐ If anyone still believes @ICEgov after they’ve been found to lie to courts of law numerous times, they should have their heads checked.  Immigration detainees with no criminal records are being held under the same, and in some cases worse, restrictive conditions as criminal defendants.  At MDC Brooklyn: - Detainees are forced to remain in their cells for as long as 22 hours a day - Water provided is brown and filled with sediment  - Requests for medical care are repeatedly denied, including for kidney pain and dental infections - There are strict restrictions on phone calls that limit access to legal representation  @ICEgov - I've seen it in person. You're lying.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement@ICEgov

The facts are: ⭐All detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap, and toiletries. ⭐Illegal aliens also have access to phones to communicate with their family members and lawyers. ⭐Certified dieticians evaluate meals. ⭐In fact, ICE has higher detention standards than most U.S. prisons that hold actual U.S. citizens.

This is the second time ICE has assaulted a U.S. Senator. If this is how they treat a Senator in view of the public, how do you think they treat detainees? We are keeping tabs and we will have accountability.

Republicans need to stop capitalizing on pain and fear to distract from their failing economy and the consequences of their forever wars. People want real solutions that make their lives safer and more affordable. Here in Chicago, we’re focused on investing in our youth and strengthening our communities. While there is still more work to do, we are encouraged by a Memorial Day weekend that saw zero homicides. We are grateful to the first responders, CVI workers, and our community leaders whose work continues to help make our neighborhoods safer.
WestLoopTom@WestLoopTom

Chicago recorded zero homicides over the long Memorial Day weekend. It’s the first time since 2010. MAGA definitely won’t like this.

Donald Trump needs a midterms deal more than a nuclear deal and whatever happens in the next few days should be understood in that context. It’s why he is about to give Iran a ton of money to save face as Trump’s approval ratings are as low as ever, gas is 4.50, and our farmers are begging for fertilizer. And it’s pretty clear that Iran no longer believes Trump when he threatens them. Too many tweets and too much punting. It’s a mess that this President can’t get out of.

What happened outside Delaney Hall yesterday was deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable. It reflects the chaos, cruelty, and vast erosion of basic democratic norms that have become central to Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. Delaney Hall itself is a moral assault on our state. It should close and should never have opened in the first place. A private, for-profit detention facility should never be allowed to profit from the pain and fear of vulnerable human beings.  Reports from detainees, advocates, faith leaders, and families describe conditions that demand urgent scrutiny, including concerns about medical care, food, retaliation against detainees, and the treatment of people who pose no threat to public safety, many of whom have lived in our country for years and have deep ties to American families and communities. My friend and colleague Senator Andy Kim went to Delaney Hall to fulfill the  responsibility to conduct oversight when credible allegations of abuse and mistreatment arise, and his treatment, including facing pepper spray, should  alarm every American, regardless of political party. We cannot allow fear, intimidation, or the abuse of federal power to become normalized in our democracy. We must reject the false choice between public safety and human dignity. We are a stronger nation when we uphold both. I will be visiting Delaney Hall this week and working closely with Senator Kim, Governor Sherrill, our congressional delegation, faith leaders, and community partners to inspect conditions inside the facility, assess detainee welfare, examine medical care and safety protocols, and ensure transparency and accountability. But oversight alone is not enough. Delaney Hall should be closed. And I will continue working to hold both the GEO Group Group and this administration accountable for policies and practices that betray our highest values and diminish who we are as a nation. At this moment, New Jersey must continue to be a place that stands for justice, compassion, constitutional rights, and the basic dignity of every human being.
