@StatisticUrban We have to remember that the right wing propaganda fire hose has never been aimed at Bernie bc the right wing and Russia understand that he's a useful wedge between the left and D party.
That would change in an instant if he became the nominee.
English

Leftists do not seem to understand that their real, fundamental issue is that not all that many people agree with them. Bernie polled at ~30% in 2020's primary. Just 6% of Americans deemed Harris “too conservative.”
There's just not much you can do with these numbers.
David Austin Walsh@DavidAstinWalsh
Yeah the Democratic Party needs to die
English

@JeffRose8 @trouble_man90 And, predictably, here comes a brain damaged leftists to rationalize insanity with lies.
English

The Democrats forcefully abandoned all progressive concepts, the New Deal, unions, and the 90% in 1992 so they could become best friends with the wealthy and corporations. Then, for good measure they sabotaged any resurgence of progressive ideas. The problem Democrats have is they have no economic policy, their foreign policy is based on colonialism, it has no political strategy, and it has adopted extreme positions on social issues. But, go ahead, and spout off about how the Left was disloyal to these sycophants.
English

The biggest issue I have with far left is the lack of foresight. If you want loan forgiveness, and green new deals, and Medicare for all, wouldn’t it be smart to make sure you secure the Supreme Court? Okay you didn’t like Hillary, but did you not think that a future progressive president could have some use out of a 6-3 liberal Supreme Court? Did that never occur to you?
English

@kvvnrggn @StatisticUrban There are many, many families living in NYC today on less than one third of $260k.
English

@StatisticUrban In an NYC neighborhood with decent public schools… The single mom, making 260k in today’s dollars, with market rate rent, childcare costs for two kids would feel crunched. And she’s UMC!
But with inflation adjusted dollars this is 350k. And with this amount she’d be fine.
English

@SteveRo83760489 @jcmanke @quantian1 Steve Rogers claims not to suffer fools, so he really should have blocked himself instead of me.
Because he is obviously a fool (or maybe a fool and a liar; who can say for sure?).
English

@SteveRo83760489 @jcmanke @quantian1 If you don't understand what a shit show this would be, then you have no business commenting on this thread. It means you know as much about the tax code and how the law works as a baby raised by wolves.
English

Obviously Chamath knows this, but US tax rates already fit on one page of simple English. The other 6999 pages enumerate every edge case of what counts as income and what doesn’t and what the deductions are, which you still need to define for a flat tax!
Chamath Palihapitiya@chamath
Replace the US Federal Tax Code's 7000 pages and millions of words with a simple flat tax. It could fit into a few pages of simple english, make paying taxes simple and enforcement even simpler.
English

@esjesjesj If fewer men are deciding to pursue college degrees, we should respect that choice instead of freaking out about it.
English

@AZinCLE @bd_highsmith $100k standard deductible, 35% tax afterwards
wouldn't make much money, but is a massive tax cut for primarily the poor
English

@hostagecs @bd_highsmith There are many other things that make personal income taxes complicated.
English

@citizenjs1 @AQuartermain @cfthepodcast @agraybee You lost because you don’t work for the American people. You and your fellow democrats work for corporate donors only and you repeatedly sabotage popular legislation for their benefit.
Whenever someone says they’re the “adults in the room” it means they’re corrupt.
English

We're not going back to Do Something Twitter. There are no magic loopholes that allow 47 senators to get everything they want that Democrats are too polite to use.
The Daily Show@TheDailyShow
Jon Stewart urges Democrats to ditch the rule-following and take a page from the Republican playbook: start exploiting loopholes
English

@danton3wuzhere @AQuartermain @cfthepodcast @agraybee You're advancing a toddler level argument at this point. The only things left for you to do are throw yourself on the ground and cry.
But the adults in the room already have a headache and just don't need to hear that.
English

@AQuartermain @cfthepodcast @citizenjs1 @agraybee He failed to do this thing that very much WAS possible. Democrats always have procedural excuses for why they don’t do anything.
They’re weaklings. They even let the parliamentarian walk all over them!
The question has to be asked: are they doing it on purpose?
English

@Cream43560 @questionableway There are households without income producing members in both high and low income communities.
And any community with $181k as a median household income is wealthy.
English

@questionableway Median household income is a deceptive stat. It includes people who don’t work, students, children and others.
181k for a household is two people making 90k.
You’re reaching for straws when you know this level of high school exist in every state
investopedia.com/terms/h/househ…
English

the median american household income is $80,610. only 13% of american households make $180k or more in a year—this means the AVERAGE resident of carmel, indiana is in the top 13% of americans and 1/2 carmelites are above that. i think that qualifies as an obscenely wealthy place
Lata. M@Cream43560
Only a Kamala voter would say the average 181k for household income is obscene wealth. You see high schools like this through the USA. I bet you could even find them in Mississippi. Secondly, Indiana it doesn’t hold a candle to NY, CA, TX, GA, FL, Etc
English

@cfthepodcast @agraybee As long as there's still a filibuster, Democrats can stop things but not do anything.
English

@citizenjs1 @agraybee Which is really the point. The examples Stewart gives are when Republicans are in the majority. McConnell could shoot down the Garland nomination because he had the votes to do so.
English

@cfthepodcast @agraybee But those things did require a total of 50 (D+I) senators plus Harris.
Those days will soon be over.
English

@agraybee Biden was able to pass one of the largest legislative packages in American history (Inflation Reduction Act) without a single Republican vote because Democrats actually *do* know how to use loopholes.
English

@HellenicVibes I've known quite a few really smart people, and people who are really smart almost never brag about their IQs. People that do are usually either really insecure or they're not actually that smart.
Ability and accomplishments are what smart people care about.
English

@Ceo_Branding @IvxnIvxn Meanwhile, there was a fire hose of right wing propaganda, targeted at right wing rubes, saying that COVID was a hoax and the vaccines were dangerous.
Does that explain poor vaccine uptake among right wing rubes? Absolutely.
English

@Ceo_Branding @IvxnIvxn To make it so simple even you can understand: Any D criticism of OWS had no effect on the ONLY people who paid attention to such D criticism, bc it had no impact on vaccine uptake among Democrats.
If you think right wingers cared the tiniest bit about that, you ARE an idiot.
English

Donald Trump had exactly one, you-gotta-hand-it-to-him, that was an insanely successful policy that saved countless lives and we should do it again and again: Operation Warp Speed.
And it's the only policy from his first term he has completely disowned and is now salting the earth over.
it's like if George W. Bush decided his entire presidency was perfect except for PEPFAR.
English

@AnimalsRockOn @ezraklein OWS ordered vaccine from Pfizer though. Pfizer was guaranteed a market provided the vaccine worked.
English

@ezraklein Except Pfizer didn't participate in warp speed and took no money to develop the Covid vaccine
English

@Ceo_Branding @IvxnIvxn Democratic leadership strongly supported the vaccines, once tested and approved, and Democrats in general were much more likely to get vaccinated.
It's funny that the D "disapproval" you cited only impacted right wing attitudes about the vax. 🤔
English

@IvxnIvxn Democrats criticized the personnel, transparency, and management.
Otherwise they loved the policy, lol
Good take
English

@ezraklein Any president would have done OWS (modeled after Obama flu vaccine program). Also OWS didn't order enough vaccine for all Americans or have a viable distribution strategy - both things that the Biden admin needed to fix.
Still, a normal candidate would have touted it.
English

@FFelvey @JessePeltan @AukeHoekstra The GW rating of a grid battery installation is a critical specification. It's also the key parameter for grid integration purposes (how and where it can interconnect and if additional line capacity is needed).
GWh is important but somewhat secondary. You can est by GW x 4.
English

@JessePeltan @AukeHoekstra Why are these figures in GW and not in GWH? The size of batteries is a function of energy, not power. Something is seriously wrong here.
