Actually, the opposite is happening more often now. Recently Irish police + Europol gained access to a high-value Bitcoin wallet belonging to a guy who'd been in jail for years. The wallet (part of a bigger 6,000 BTC stash) had been sitting there dormant since the seizure, seed phrases supposedly lost (hidden in fishing rods that got thrown away). They cracked it anyway using undisclosed decryption techniques and technical support from Europol. Moved the 500 BTC (€30-35M) straight to Coinbase. So yeah… these days it often doesn't matter if the private keys or seeds are 'missing' or hidden elsewhere. Authorities are getting better at this, and they have serious resources, so I imagine these guys will seize every penny.

It is amazing how many people still do not understand that in order to ban under 16s from social media, then every user has to verify their age and identity. That means mandatory ID checks for everyone. That's what they wanted & they do it under the guise of protecting children.
