1/ I've been a student of #airassault in the #canadianarmy for some time, and thanks to great sources such as this one, have done some thinking on the VDV assault on #Hostomel. TLDR: AAslt remains relevant. The attack failed because of Russian errors. youtu.be/r0Ji7KqqEqg

What's so irksome about US posturing against Canada on mutual defence is that they treat us as moochers, when we're clearly net contributors. Here's the USAF Commander of NORAD having to explain to Congress that defending the US would need more resources without Canada.

@fknorm50 @CDNPolicyHawk Clearly I know more about this than you. This is the 2014 Wales Summit Declaration, signed in September 2014. It commits members to spending 2% of their GDP by 2024. Canada achieved this in FY 25/26. Ergo, we missed our NATO obligation by 1 (or 2) years.

@jankool37 @CDNPolicyHawk The graph I posted was made in 2015 and is from the University of Ottawa and clearly shows NATO has a 2% spending target. Canada is clearly underspending and your fighter planes now cannot fly. You have failed NATO for 35 years. You arguing that you have only failed since 2014?

@jankool37 @CDNPolicyHawk NATO requires that member countries spend 2% of their GDP on their militaries. Canada has not come close to that and now everything needs replaced at once. Your 40-year-old CF-18s are not airworthy and your submarines are not seaworthy. You have junk.

@CDNPolicyHawk Canada has not met its NATO obligation for 35-years. Its Air Force is not airworthy Its Navy is not seaworthy Its Army is 2/3 the size of the Paris Police force. Its Coast Guard is unarmed. Its heavy ice breakers are 50-years-old. BUY some FIGHTER PLANES, ANY fighter planes.

@NoahGairn @pbontoast1 Here me out - Snowbirds on PC-21 fitted for/with light attack capes with a secondary role as counter one-way-attack drone (C-OWAD) platform... If someone is shooting drones at us, chances are the air shows are cancelled anyway.

“The Canada-led NATO brigade in Latvia has moved beyond its original “tripwire” deterrence posture and is now focused on mounting a credible defense of the Baltic country bordering Russia, according to its commander, Col. Kris Reeves. Reeves said the shift towards what he described as “tactical credibility” has meant establishing forward locations and stationing troops near Latvia’s eastern border, in the terrain where they would actually fight in the event of a conflict, the Canadian commander told Defense News.” defensenews.com/global/europe/…

@Prominent_Bryan Lived in the US for two years and absolutely missed e-transfers while I was there. Zillow, etc., is so much less convenient

I will never understand why Canadians insist e-transfer is better It isn't. It's always more annoying to use than the US system (or what they have in the rest of the world) I'm not saying interac e-transfer is terrible or unusable but it is objectively less convenient than Venmo, especially if you don't already have this person in your contacts It's weird how defensive Canadians are on this. Weird elbows up stuff. But it's always from people who have never experienced the system in the rest of the world

Always a good time when senior officers quote Tolkien during their speeches. Working full time and studying was challenging, but I was able to work through my mid-life crisis and finish an MA in War Studies.

Canada's next Governor General, Louise Arbour, is asked if she is a monarchist. Q: "Are you a monarchist?" A: "This term is unfortunately very often used in a pejorative way. What I can say is that I will accede to a function in which I will be the representative of the Crown, in a constitutional arrangement that I think has served Canada extremely well throughout our history, but even more in recent decades."

@AlexRMcColl Depending on the number of platforms to operate, the new units to set up (e.g., drone and counter-drone), and the composition of our expeditionary division, one could argue we need a larger regular force, closer to 120,000. We’re not provided evidence to support any force size.

@Antus_Real @jankool37 @VLO225 US design standards are, at this point, doing far more harm than good. A "good enough" warship underway beats a "perfect" warship that never leaves the design stage.

To elaborate there IS no highly readily producible ships that can replace the constellation in a ASW / FFG role . Both the Mogami and Korean FFG batch 3 class would require the same heavy overhaul that plagued the constellation , same Type 26 and others USN requirements for systems and other things will ultimately lead to a very different ship . A brand new class of ship would take nearly a decade or so to develop . This only leaves the LCS derivatives which nobody wants

143 new sailors, soldiers, and aviators graduated BMQ today, but mostly soldiers! 80% of the graduates today are Army, so no surprise they swept the top athlete awards. Also cool to see almost 40 combat medics on the same graduation.
