@mattyglesias @binarybits if cost of litigation and arbitration go to zero, what is the downside of constant litigation over every possible tort?

@DekkardSolia @sunnyright Indeed the system around these things is the problem, that’s what I was getting at. It’s a tragic mess. 🫡

Watched a 60 Minutes segment on a guy whose company spent $3 billion working on curing a rare and deadly disease in children. The dose of the resulting drug is very expensive. Commenters are calling for “Luigi” to be released to kill him.

$150,000K truck with a $2,500/month payment or $30,000 per year in truck payments. As an LLC (non S Corp), to make $200,000 income, top line revenue needs to be $300,000 (at 100% margins). So, you need to clear $330,000 per year in revenue. $69 for a one time clean (from their website). Assume you work 300 days a year. (Entrepreneur lifestyle). $330K / 300 = $1,100/day revenue needed. $1,100/$69* = 16 cans/visits per day required. This is the optimal math. If he has a high membership rate of quarterly and monthly subscribers, the number of daily cans/visits needs to triple or quadruple.

@MartinShkreli In what universe do we expect derms to prescribe anti-IL18 over anti-IL4R/IL13 or aIL31? I'm ever amazed at how much the market loves the aderm programs

long $EVMN on today's drop, new position for me. with a failed drug out of the way, focus can begin on IL-18 as an exciting new addition to the autoimmune armamentarium.

Not if the holders of the good in question have the ability to hold it ransom. Capitalists are also at times willing to leave properties empty rather than rent them at market rates And again: People don't live long term. Under a fully market-maximalist system (which the OP backs), a landlord could increase rents at any time, any frequency, any reason. This is 'maximally efficient' but people can't just move without incurring major economic and social costs.

Demand inelasticity of essential goods is a concept you learn in microeconomics 101 Even honest capitalist evangelists admit if you have something essential to survival, supply increases alone do NOT drive down prices
Slazac 🇪🇺🇺🇦🇹🇼🌐@TrueSlazac

Nothing will make you lose faith in leftism more than arguing about rent control They simply refuse to learn about the consequences of the policies they support, they can’t conceive second order effects

@paulg @Noahpinion Kids are part of the family no matter what... but prospective in-laws need to clear a threshold to make it in. No hypocrisy there, it's inherent to the notion of in-group

@Noahpinion I'm not saying it's immoral to exclude people. I'm saying it's hypocritical for individuals to hold would-be immigrants to a standard that they themselves couldn't meet. Especially when they do it unthinkingly.

@MartinShkreli microRNAs are shotguns, market priors were there would probably be lots of side effects. there were side effects. this is a rational response by the market. I'd be shocked if this gets in sniffing distance of 2nd line

It’s this bullshit narratives that humans can’t be happy unless they have children. Fucking nonsense. Children are a great experience but they’re not the end-all, be-all of the human experience. This isn’t the 1400s where life expectancy didn’t get past 37 for most men. We live longer, have access to more opportunities and experiences than ever. Depending on what you want to do:, children are an impediment to career growth and experiences. It’s not Impossible but much more difficult. To each their own.

@MartinShkreli Not obvious to me that targets are as exhausted as the field believes (has clindev matched target-indications well in the aggregate? Nah) if we can bump any TF with sufficient cell type and context specificity though, cool. But I suspect their platform is messy af

well, there is a clue which is LNP and seemingly transcription factor soup? particularly since targeting a liver disease is the CRISPR/mRNA/RNAi/antisense cheat code--which paradoxically makes liver diseases much less exciting given everyone has gone after them. no meds for ALD though, so not a bad choice there
