Recently, CDC was on the ground in Texas, working closely with federal and state partners to strengthen readiness for the potential public health threat posed by New World screwworm. This engagement allowed CDC to highlight response planning, review preparedness efforts, and strengthen coordination and communication across jurisdictions. To further support preparedness, CDC issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory to inform clinicians, public health authorities, and the public about recent New World screwworm animal cases in Tamaulipas, Mexico, which borders Texas. CDC continues to support state, tribal, and local health officials by providing technical expertise on diagnosis, clinical management, and reporting potential cases of New World screwworm.

Four days ago, on January 30, the Governor of Texas issued a disaster declaration on the New World Screwworm as it nears closer and closer to the Texas border There are rumors there are other cases present in Texas that have fallen on deaf ears We have been sounding the alarm since July, but this is becoming more and more of a National Security crisis, and USDA’s lackluster response is threatening the safety of our citizens and ranching industry You think beef prices are high now? Imagine when the cattle supply in Texas is wiped out because of an infestation of flesh eating maggots WE ARE HUMBLY CALLING ON THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO ISSUE A NATIONAL SECURITY DECLARATION IMMEDIATELY WE MUST PROTECT AMERICAN FOOD SUPPLY AT ALL COSTS

Asian longhorned ticks have made their way into Michigan. This tick typically targets livestock, but its ability to reproduce without a male can can rapidly result in a large population.
MI Ag & Rural Dev@MichDeptofAg

Today, we’re reporting the first detection of Asian longhorned ticks in Michigan, discovered in Berrien County by Calvin University. Animal owners are urged to take measures to keep pets and livestock safe and healthy. Learn more: bit.ly/43FigpA
