Another HSR post; FUN FACT: the HSR trains of Italy, China(some) & Sweden are all ZEFIRO Variants designed by, you'll never guess who.... BOMBARDIER, Canada's flagship transportation industrial firm. We even apparently have domestic expertise... Build the damn train!!!
Clinton Desveaux@ClintonDesveaux

Canada needs Japanese and South Korean engineers to build us a high speed train with its own dedicated line from Quebec City through Montreal and Ottawa to Toronto. We also need a high speed rail between Calgary to Edmonton It’s time for us to evolve

@petitben59 @CheriDiNovo Confed bridge super successful on build as private company took on all risk. Bridge is still heavily subsidized. CPR there was no other viable cross country alternative and fully funded by private enterprise now. Don’t see the high speed rail achieving either of these.

Poilievre wants to cancel the high speed Toronto to Quebec City rail. We should suggest (on his dime) he spend some time in Europe where rail takes you everywhere and public transit is taken by the wealthy because it's faster, cleaner, greener and cheaper. Tory governments are the reason we're decades behind the world.

@Caiopino67 @MUFCDarren_ That implies changing the culture of the Italian football and moving away completely from Catenaccio. Football has evolved, but Italian mindset about the game has not. C'est là le gros problème par rapport au Football italien globalement, pas seulement la Squadra Azzurri.

@gitzeler @MrJFTaylor @SamHersh01 That is your opinions, but do you remember how many times people of Toronto and Ontario for that matter have been bickering about public transportation. Between building silly streetcar or subway. In my view, every large capital public expenditure is an issue in English Canada.

@petitben59 @MrJFTaylor @SamHersh01 It's not English Canada, it's not even most of Canada, only like 20% of all Canadians strongly oppose this the other 80% are in favor or indifferent. The support is there across all of Canada. Such a weird attempt to separate Canadians by language???

Canada is literally the only G7 country without high speed rail. Conservatives want you to continue to pay sky high prices for gas, worsen congestion on roads and make your commute hours longer. We've been "studying" high speed rail for 50 years - time to get it built.

@johnknotek @CheriDiNovo English Canada has been asking the same question every time. From the construction of cpr to the confederation bridge. C'est toujours le même discours de petit comptable avant chaque projet de grande envergure. C'est à cause de cela que le projet Avro à été abandonné. Enough!

@CheriDiNovo You do understand math correct? Two European unions could fit inside Canada and their population is 10x larger. While high speed rail would be nice it only would service just over half of Canadian population which is 20x smaller than European Union. For $90b math ain’t mathing.

@MrJFTaylor @SamHersh01 I truly don't understand English Canada. These same questions were raised before the construction of cpr, the transcanada highway, the confederation bridge, and now the high speed train for Québec city to Windsor corridor. Les mêmes bêtises avant chaque grand projet!

@SamHersh01 Canada is 5,500 kilometres in a straight line, if you are thinking rail line more like 7,500 kilometres then there are those pesky mountains and lakes. But if you are talking just Ontario and Quebec high speed then it is indeed possible, just at other Canadians expense.

During his illness, Stephen Lewis spent what little energy he had, protesting Israel’s genocide in Gaza. This fact will most likely be missing from most remembrances of him today. Canada lost a giant of humanity and social justice. Sending love to @avilewis & entire family.

Imagine if instead of spending $1.3 million/minute on war in Iran, we spent this on people. With 3 days of war, we could eliminate the worst form of global hunger, saving 1.5m kids' lives. With less than 3 weeks worth, we could offer national pre-K or college for all Americans.

All Canadians should think of Iran this way. Ukrainian Airlines flight PS752 had 55 Canadian citizens & 30 PRs on board. Of 167 passengers, 138 were travelling to Canada when the plane was shot down, killing all, on 8 January 2020 by an Iranian IRGC air defence unit. 1/2

Zelenskyy: Iran shot down our plane. Killed our passengers. Didn't admit it. Then the full-scale war, they handed Shaheds to Russia, killing our civilians I asked them to stop. They promised no more than one batch and carried on lying. I think of them as accomplices of Russia 2/

This was long before: the February 2022 full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, backed by Iranian drones; the 7 October 2023 terrorist attacks against Israel, aiming to distract from Ukraine; & recent Iranian attacks against Gulf states. Iran is a perennial aggressor. 2/2

Fuck off Quebec. Honestly, the hostility created by the French sense of entitlement actually negatively impacts the majority of Canadians and excludes them from positions of power. You can get a CBC panelist to sneer at us all you want, but our country is weaker because of this nonsense. Produce an elite goalie and then we can entertain your absurd language laws, until then the country has serious problems to deal with so calm down and stop undermining the country. Sincerely, English speaking Canadians

@Bearwood1973 @jurgen_nauditt But why now. Because they never shared those values from the start. Cette réalité était connue de la plupart des pays de l'union à l'époque. D'ailleurs honnêtement, la Hongrie n'est pas seule dans cette liste des pays qui applique cette règle à géométrie variable.

The EU is preparing five scenarios in case Orban wins. Expulsion from the EU is even being discussed – Politico. Brussels plans to neutralize Budapest's blackmail after the April 12 elections. On the table are the suspension of the veto right, a complete freeze on funding, and the suspension of Hungary's voting rights. The most radical option, already under discussion, is the complete expulsion of the country from the European Union.
