Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss. As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma’s rejection of Arvind Kejriwal’s recusal application today is a masterclass in judicial backbone. By refusing to let a politician "judge judicial competence," she has single-handedly halted a dangerous attempt to turn the Delhi High Court into a "theatre of perception". Justice Sharma decimated the legal basis of the application using established precedents. Let us have a look: The "Presumption of Impartiality": She reiterated that impartiality is a presumption in favour of a judge, not a "manufactured test" litigants can manipulate. Threshold of apprehension: Citing the standard of a "fair-minded and informed observer," she ruled that Kejriwal’s claims, such as her children's legal careers or her attendance at Adhivakta Parishad events, did not pass the threshold for "reasonable apprehension of bias". Precedent against forum shopping: The ruling leaned into the principle that litigants cannot "choose their judge" (Chetak Construction Ltd. v. Om Prakash), branding the move as strategic forum shopping disguised as a plea for fairness. The "Duty to Sit": Relying on the doctrine that a judge must hear cases assigned unless there are objectively justifiable grounds, she called the easy path of recusal an "abdication of duty" and an "act of surrender". In short, this is Kejriwal's PR stunt gone wrong. Kejriwal’s team tried to build a Catch-22 situation: if she recused, they’d claim victory over "bias", and, if she stayed, they’d cry "persecution" on social media. Justice Sharma saw right through it, noting that the applicant had created a "win-win narrative" for himself regardless of the law. The hypocrisy is glaring. This is the same AAP that celebrates the judiciary when it grants interim bails but launches "vilification without accountability" the moment a judge asks tough questions about 40,000 pages of evidence. By flagging the "seeds of distrust" planted by the politician, the court essentially told the Kejriwal gang that their digital narratives have no jurisdiction over the bench. Today, the robe stood firm. Justice Sharma’s message to the political class was loud and clear: Judicial integrity cannot be put to trial by a litigant. In a world of "managed justice," this was a rare, raw victory for the independence of the Indian judiciary. Institutional respect won. Perception-led bullying lost. India's current opposition needs to know that their political battles belong in the streets and at the ballot box, not in the crosshairs of a judge’s personal and professional life.

The Lenskart Cover-Up A $5.6 billion company. A written policy. Two fired employees. A CEO whose story kept changing. Lenskart — India's largest eyewear retailer, IPO-bound, valued at $5.6 billion — had a Style Guide for store staff. It surfaced on April 15. The rules: No bindi. No tilak. No kalawa. Minimal sindoor, not on the forehead. The hijab? Explicitly permitted. With colour instructions. And tutorial videos promised to staff. When the document went viral, CEO Peyush Bansal called it "inaccurate." X's Community Note corrected him — the document was company-branded, dated February 2026. He then shifted: it was an "outdated training document" with an "incorrect line" that was "discovered and removed on February 17, well before this became public." That story collapsed within 24 hours. Akash Falake, a Lenskart store manager in Pune, had emails. He had flagged the exact same policy to Lenskart HR in writing on November 25, 2025. Senior HR was informed again on December 8. Through January and February 2026, store audits were actively cutting salaries of employees who wore bindis or tikas. Falake escalated to the legal team. No response. On February 20, he filed a complaint on Maharashtra's government grievance portal. The same day — he was terminated. Then came Zeel Soghasia from Surat. Got a Lenskart job offer. Flew to Navi Mumbai for training. Day one: told to cut his shikha, remove his tilak and religious tattoos — or there would be no job. He refused. Fired the next day. This was April 18, 2026 — sixty days after Bansal claimed the policy had been removed. Two employees raised this internally over five months. Both were ignored. One was fired the day he went to the government. One was fired for refusing to alter a religious symbol on his body. The CEO's story changed three times. Each time, new evidence forced the shift. This is how institutional discrimination works in the modern Indian workplace — not through speeches, but through audit deductions, grooming guides, and termination letters. Systems designed to be absorbed quietly. It almost worked. Until someone leaked a PDF.

Now that the 131st Amendment Bill failed, allocation of Lok Sabha seats will be based on 2026 census data. As per current estimates, seven States will likely lose 35 seats: AP (-5), Telangana (-3), TN (-10), Karnataka (-2), Kerala (-7), Odisha (-4), and WB (-4). Four States will likely gain 34 seats: UP (+12), Bihar (+10), MP (+5), and Rajasthan (+7). BJP is widely believed to be the potential beneficiary of redistribution of seats to States based on 2026 population. In a stunning act of self-denial, the NDA government came forward to freeze the current share of States based on the 1971 census data. There could be many reasons for BJP committing to such a freeze - putting the nation above the party, paving the way for expanding their footprint in the South, or avoiding a divisive issue when the nation has to focus on growth and prosperity in the face of global challenges. Whatever be the motivation of BJP, the seven States that lost share of population are offered an unexpected gift. You don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Surprisingly, the parties which have great stakes in the South and East have scored a spectacular self goal. This is a classic case of cutting the nose to spite the face. In 2001, as the freeze in seats was expiring, I was deeply involved in persuading the then Vajpayee government to continue the freeze in the number of seats allocated to States for another 25 years. An unwieldy coalition and the economic challenge posed by external sanctions after the Pokharan explosion demanded national unity, and the parties responded with the 84th Amendment. Now again a priceless opportunity arose, and the Opposition squandered it without any strategic thinking. If political animosity makes you oblivious of your own interest, or larger interests of fostering unity and focusing on growth and harmony, it is a sign of dysfunctional politics. I appeal to all parties to come together and find a harmonious solution to the thorny problem of seats allocation in the face of demographic imbalances. National unity and our quest for opportunity and prosperity for all demand a fair and swift resolution. In the long run migration will resolve the imbalances. Already millions of migrant workers are building and sustaining the economies of several States in the South, West and North. That is why, despite low fertility rate, Maharashtra's share of the population is increasing. In the US, dramatic internal migration changed the demography and representation over the years. People move freely to States where there is growth and jobs are created. In a century, Florida increased its representation in the US Congress from 4 to 28, California from 11 to 52, Texas from 18 to 38, and Washington from 5 to 10. Owing to outward migration, New York lost seats, from 43 to 26, Pennsylvania from 36 to 17, Illinois from 27 to 17, Ohio from 22 to 15, and Missouri from 16 to 8. We should make it easy for people to migrate to other States and recognize and respect their constitutional rights everywhere and make their life easier and safe. That will resolve our demographic challenges. Most states reached low fertility levels, and Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Jharkhand too are going to reach there in a few years. We need a reasoned and pragmatic approach to grow together and become strong. Let us persuade parties to shed inflammatory and divisive rhetoric and focus on quality education and skills and opportunities for all.

@PMOIndia @PetroleumMin @neerajmittalias @PIB_India @MIB_India #GiveItUp

Here are some consequences of the sabotage done by Congress and its allies in Lok Sabha today. 1) Women Reservation will NOT be implemented in 2029 elections: Current Article 334 (A) of Constitution says women reservation will be come in effect AFTER delimitation is done AFTER first census is done post the commencement of 2023 bill. Modi govt's Constitution Amendment bill 2026 (defeated today) was to amend 334 (A) and drop the requirement of first census AFTER commencement of bill and immediately do delimitation. Defeated by Congress and allies. Hence original 334(A) stands. So those saying just divide 543 seats into 1/3rd for women DO NOT KNOW THE LAW or are INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING. It cannot be done without census completion. 2) Actual Delimitation Will Still Happen Current Article 81(1) fixes total Lok Sabha seats to 550 maximum. Current Article 81 (2) says that population proportion for number of seats allotted to each state should be same for all states (except very small states / UTs with population less than 60 lakhs). Current Article 82 mandates to readjust seats allotted to each state as per first census done after 2026. It is a constitutional requirement to do it. Modi govt's Constitution Amendment bill 2026 sought to do a few things a) Increase 550 max seats (operating 543) to max 850 seats (operating 816) b) Do delimitation basis 2011 census c) Promise to maintain current proportion of seats for each state. Congress and allies defeated all of the above amendments. So what happens now? a) Delimitation would start from 2027 after census data published. b) Total Seats would be fixed at 543 (as Constitution Amendment bill to increase it is defeated) c) Seats to states would be allotted basis 2027 population and Modi govts idea of maintaining CURRENT proportion WOULD NOT APPLY because that bill which promised it has ben defeated. Hence, delimitation would still happen, but as per current population and Southern States would lose out on their proportion. In summary what has Congress achieved: 1) Sabotaged Women's Reservation bill immediate implementation and pushed it to 2034 or even beyond. 2) Delimitation would happen but without increase in overall seats and without safeguarding southern states proportion of seats.
