I think that is a very interesting question with 2 possible answers. 1. He had been getting away with it so far so its possible he expected to continue and why not grab the texas tech pay day right now. We dont yet know how nefarious this gets but he could have had debts that needed an immediate pay day to cover 2. He only more recently made illegal bets or had thought old illegal bets would not be discovered (remember hes allowed to place bets on other sports and leagues)

My biggest question is why the hell did Sorsby and his camp have him play in College Football for another year knowing this could be looming? He absolutely should have just entered the 2026 Draft
On3@On3

NEW: Sources who have reviewed the betting data told @PeteNakos that, dating back to 2022, Brendan Sorsby placed more than 10k wagers and at one point averaged 20 bets per day. Sorsby placed bets across multiple states, using a range of gambling apps. on3.com/news/texas-tec…

It’s not a perfect parallel at all, Love was a 3 year starter and picked 26th overall. Simpson played 1 of the last 4 years, picked at 13 and will sit for another 2 years and not play until 2028 at best, so he will have played 1 year of football in a 7 year period and expected to develop into a franchise QB?

We talked about this on the show today a bit. The perfect parallel is when GB drafted Jordan Love. They could have had Tee Higgins. That year, they lost by 5 in the NFCCG when Davante Adams had 15 targets and the next GB WR had 6. Higgins had ~900 yards as a rookie. Would he have been the difference? Not sure, but you can't definitively say no. That's basically the debate each team had. Does this WR get us another ring while our old QB is still going vs will the QB secure the next decade after transition? I think arguing either side is reasonable.
Dan Orlovsky@danorlovsky7

The idea that the Rams should have punted on a future QB they love in the name of a “win-now” WR is shortsighted and foolish. No rookie can be expected to swing his team’s championship probability that much.

@j_macgeever @dpbrugler Then do player rankings, not a mock draft with teams . Because that is the point of a mock draft

I really do like Stribling. Nothing against him. I wouldn't even surprised if he ends up being a monster. My problem is the trend of the 49ers reaching against consensus big boards has never worked in their favor. Ever!

@NinerNick_22 @JRToyne12 They moved back 6 spots and got a 2nd, 3rd and 5th round pick. You’re insane if you think that’s not good value.

Wtf is this compensation the #49ers are getting in return in these trades? I don't hate the double trade down. I HATE THE COMPENSATION. Why is the Jets moving back into the 1st round only returning you a 5th? Absolutely awful.

@StrykerStryker5 @ldsabuse Many people, including some of my family members and friends, can be considered church leaders and they use personal emails and phone numbers, so the church has no right to tell me I can't contact them.

I haven't shared this before here and am hesitant to share too many details, so I apologize in advance for not answering all questions, but I can confirm that Kirton McConkie does issue permanent bans on all church properties. It happened to me in Jan 2025.

Stacker@stackerco

Someone DM’d me about a conversation he had with a Kirton McConkie lawyer in his ward last Sunday about the direction the LDS Church may be going with lawsuits. For context, he’s in a mixed-faith marriage, attended church last Sunday for family reasons, and asked to stay anonymous. Take it for what it’s worth. This is copied directly from the DMs: In short KM has received marching orders to go after everyone. This started under Nelson. But off the leash under the lawyer prophet oaks. Expect more excommunications to come with a total ban from church property. He bragged that practically forces people to move away from Utah since the church owns all kinds of property. He’s never met me and doesn’t know I’m exmo. LOL [Me: I need more:] Ok. Can’t doxx myself by posting about the KM guy but here is the gist of what he proudly said to me. I asked him a softball question about people suing for their tithing back followed by laughing that it an easy way to go to hell. “You’re not wrong, but it’s going to come back to bite them in this life too. You may not have noticed, but the gloves are off now. The church is tired of being persecuted and driven out of communities. We are fighting back. They can’t treat us like they did in the early days. The brethren have given us the green light to go after these people that get in the way of our temple building and defame our name. I can’t go into specifics but anyone who sues the church without good reason is going to regret it very soon. And there really is no good reason TO SUE GOD.” You are going to sue them back? “All I can say is that option is on the table. We have lots of resources, god is on our side and we never give up. We don’t lose because losing looks bad for the church. One option we have if someone is persecuting us is we ban them from all church property for life. They get a case and edit and trespass warning from us. Doesn’t seem like a big deal but that makes is so you almost can’t go anywhere in Utah, downtown, church lands, parking lots whatever. People have to move away. The Lord is cleaning house. So don’t worry. We’ll get through this. God put the right prophet in place for this battle.”

No they refused to add a disclaimer in writing at the beginning of their videos and instead have a disclaimer on their website… they are intentionally trying to mislead people. No one who listens to podcasts and YouTube videos goes a groups website to read a disclaimer. They know what they are doing and doing it on purpose.

@scrollpastthis @BufflerRider @BlackBlessedLDS That’s false. Mormon stories had disclaimers all over their different channels across all social media. They also changed their logo to orange at the beginning of mediation. All before the lawsuit. The church is lying.

I remember the first time I came across the Mormon Stories podcast. I was trying to get active again. I was driving down a hill in Santaquin, UT headed toward the on ramp. Thought to myself “Oh! This sounds interesting.” It wasn’t long before I realized it wasn’t what I thought… I’m sure there is more that was said and discussed in mediation but ultimately, having the disclaimer isn’t a big deal. It’s actually common practice. Even active, believing members have disclaimers on their channels. Hell, even I do on my very very small channel. Refusing to do so seems to be another tactic to try and make The Church look like the big bad bully which will only seem that way to those who already think that. So the needle doesn’t move at all, imo. Peacemaking was attempted. Now it’s in laws hand. Guess we will see who wins.
Jasmin Rappleye@JasminRappleye

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has officially filed a lawsuit against the exmormon podcast Mormon Stories hosted by John Dehlin. This is the "unreasonable" demand that led to John Dehlin to walk away from mediation, and led the Church to finally pull the trigger

@Jack_Brentnall @glassvector 49ers went to the Super Bowl year prior and were loaded all around and had a top defense. Not the same at all with a team picking top 10 and missed the playoffs the last 3 years. Horrible take

Lots of criticism for the Bengals "overpaying" for Lawrence with the No. 10 overall pick, but I think that collectively we overestimate our ability to evaluate prospects. The trade reminds me of the DeForrest Buckner trade in 2020. Colts traded No. 13 for Buckner and the 49ers took Javon Kinlaw. Plenty of people praised the 49ers for getting a younger, cheaper player in Kinlaw, but look how that turned out

@theblockspot @MarkSchwab You’re evaluating it in a vacuum which is not how the NFL works which you should know. Christian McCaffrey was the 149th highest paid player in terms of cash last year, is he the 149th best player?

Dexter Lawrence is better than Pick 10. Sauce Gardner is better than Pick 16. Micah Parsons is better than Pick 20. Travis Hunter is better than Pick 24. Trent McDuffie is better than Pick 29. Jaylen Waddle is better than Pick 30. Stop criticizing NFL teams who go for it.

some thoughts on Lawrence to Cincy... Dexter Lawrence is a 28-year old stud he spent most of his career playing vs elite interior OLs of the Eagles & Cowboys he's been double-teamed at the highest rate in the NFL he's now playing in the AFC North Ravens lost their C Steelers might start a 42-yr old QB Browns have Deshaun or Shedeur Lawrence should FEAST the Giants were TERRIBLE when he wasn't on the field last year, even in a "down" year for Lawrence: Giants defense with... Dexter Lawrence OFF the field: #32 YPA (8.4) #31 sack rate (4.1%) #27 EPA/pass (+0.13) #26 pass success (47%) #23 pressure rate (32%) Dexter Lawrence ON the field: #7 pass success (40%) #8 YPA (6.6) #9 sack rate (7.7%) #10 EPA/pass (+0.09) #22 pressure rate (33%) that was a "down" year for Dexter the team was top-10 vs the pass when he was out there bottom-10 when he wasn't want a larger sample? last 3 years: Dexter Lawrence OFF the field: #32 YPA (7.7) #31 pressure rate (29%) #31 pass success (48%) #30 EPA/pass (+0.14) #30 sack rate (5.5%) Dexter Lawrence ON the field: #8 pass success (42%) #8 sack rate (7.4%) #10 EPA/pass (+0.02) #13 YPA (7.0) #15 pressure rate (36%) and again, the context is VITAL: he was obviously the #1 best player on the Giants defense every team knew it they double teamed him at the #1 highest rate and he STILL made this big of a difference and that was despite playing some of the NFL's top offensive lines in the NFC East as it relates tot he Eagles and Cowboys for YEARS oh, and then there's this pretty ridiculous nugget:
