@berkie1 So terrible. Lots of options on this street for some easy traffic calming. Street is very wide, crossing distance is long. Take that painted bumpout and make it permanent with bollards and cement! Makes me so mad that we have the solutions we just refuse to inconvenience drivers.

Forgive me if I really just don’t care that it may take a few extra seconds for drivers to get where they’re going after implementing traffic calming measures in the interest of saving just one life. whdh.com/news/pedestria…

Ok, twitter friends. Took the @NJTRANSIT @NJTRANSIT_NEC to New Brunswick last night for a wonderful dinner. Saw this new intersection at Albany and Spring. Not sure how I feel about it... My gut feeling is bad, but what do I know. Chime in friends!

Exciting moment this morning as we kicked off the long-awaited transformation of the Gulton property off of Durham Avenue with Middlesex County Commissioner Charles Tomaro. This exciting project includes the creation of a 32 acre wildlife preserve in Metuchen that will be managed by Middlesex County which was made possible by a beautifully designed upscale apartment community that pays tribute to the historic heritage of the site. Work has begun with the commencement of the demolition of the dilapidated warehouses on the property. The project is expected to be completed by Summer 2025. The following are my remarks from the press conference this morning. For decades, the Borough has been discussing possibilities and potential for the Gulton property. Today, the transformation begins. We are so excited that so many of you have joined us today, including Middlesex County Commissioner Charlie Tomaro and Council Member Dorothy Rasmussen to celebrate the demolition of one of the most dilapidated eye sores in our Borough. For over a century, these warehouses have blocked our access and view to Metuchen’s largest section of open space and our most beautiful natural asset for passive recreation, the Dismal Brook Preserve section of the Peter J. Barnes III Wildlife Preserve. This demolition symbolizes our community’s collective vision of transforming a property’s industrial and warehouse legacy of vacant buildings and lost potential into one that is creating a true community benefit built upon resilience, rehabilitation and redevelopment. Most residents with whom I speak do not even know that this space exists. But, with some creative planning and exemplary collaboration between Borough officials, County officials, Metuchen Realty Acquisitions, and Klein Enterprises, this Preserve is set to become an iconic Metuchen destination in just a short period of time. By the Summer of 2025, our community will have access to 30 plus expansive acres that will make up one of the most beautiful open spaces in the region. The Preserve will be managed by Middlesex County and will be the place for walking, hiking, biking, and strolling. It will feature boardwalk trails, a footbridge for walking over the brook, a bird watching tower, interpretive signage to give visitors some context for both the preservation of the surrounding plants and wildlife and the extensive history of the property. Additionally, the Preserve will include a public entrance to and parking area with bike racks for the Preserve and the future extension of the Middlesex County Greenway. With all of this in mind, there is no doubt that this space will become a regular stop for people of all ages and abilities. We are particularly grateful to have partners in Metuchen Realty Aquisitions and Klein Enterprises who, in addition to spending $10 million in environmental remediation on the property which included the planting of 3,000 native species trees, will be constructing a beautifully designed, upscale apartment community that has been planned to pay tribute to the historic heritage of the site. It is this very project that has enabled us to tear down these eye sores, stop a future warehouse from setting up here, open the largest recreational space in Metuchen, fund a variety of important infrastructure projects throughout the Borough, and help protect our environment, all while providing our community with new housing options that will give many people the freedom to stay in the very community where they grew up and open doors for new neighbors. This is an example of a public-private partnership that will be a true benefit to our community. Thank you to Middlesex County, Metuchen Realty Acquisitions and Klein Enterprises for being so creative and persevering through so many obstacles to make this work. We’ve made it. And now, as Bruce Springsteen once said, “Bring on your wrecking ball!”

I would pay for an unlimited Amtrak ticket. I'll admit it. I wish I spent more time in Philly, Baltimore, DC, and Boston.
