She lived in the United States during the 1970s, serving as chairwoman of the Muslim Women’s Association in Washington, D.C., while her husband, Ambassador Abdullahi Ahmed Addow, represented Somalia as ambassador to the United States. In 1978, she wrote and published Habka Cunto-Karinta Soomaaliyeed: Cookery of Somali Style, the first book ever written on Somali cuisine. She donated the proceeds from the book to support refugees displaced by the 1977 war between Somalia and Ethiopia. Asha was deeply devoted to preserving Somali heritage, collecting Somali art and cultural artifacts that she later donated to several museums, a testament to her lifelong commitment. #Somalia #Culture
