One year ago today, George Glezmann was liberated from Taliban custody by President @realDonaldTrump. What started as a vacation from his job as a Delta Air Lines mechanic to explore the culture and history of Afghanistan, turned into an 836-day nightmare because of the Taleban’s inhuman policy of taking innocent Americans and using them as political pawns.  Eleven days ago, @SecRubio designated Afghanistan a State Sponsor of Wrongful Detention, firing a shot across the bow of the Taleban regime. We will not tolerate the evil practice of hostage diplomacy and our Commander-in-Chief will not rest until every American taken by the Taleban, like Dennis Coyle, Mahmood Habibi, Paul Overby, and Polynesus Jackson, are returned home to America. Today also marks the 1st freedom anniversary of 🇺🇸 George Glezmann. George was unlawfully detained by the Taliban on Dec. 12, 2022 & thankfully released on Mar. 20, 2025 after 835 days in inhumane conditions. Today, the Foley Foundation celebrates one year since @GGlezmann was freed after 836 days in Taliban captivity! George, a Delta Airlines mechanic from Atlanta, was wrongfully detained in Afghanistan in December 2022. His health declined during his detention, and his family endured months of limited contact and uncertainty. Today, we celebrate George’s freedom while remembering the Taliban continues to wrongfully detain Americans in country, including Dennis Coyle and Mahmood Habibi. I had personal meetings in Washington with Dr. Sebastian Gorka and Special Envoy Adam Boehler to discuss my brother Mahmood Habibi’s case. Mahmood has been held by the Taliban for the past three and a half years. They both reassured me — as they have done several times — that President Trump is aware of my brother’s situation and will not rest until he is brought home.
