I’m writing to highlight a case that is now gaining public attention. A petition is calling for a review of Mahdi Mirdamadi (Najafabadi), who is currently living and working in the United States in an academic capacity.
His father, Mohsen Mirdamadi, was among those involved in the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover—an event that led to the 444-day hostage crisis impacting American diplomats and national security.
This raises a serious and legitimate question: how is it that the son of an individual involved in one of the most consequential actions against the United States is now freely building a professional life within it?
Given the historical significance and growing public concern, this case may warrant closer review and potential coverage.

In January 2025, Tabnak, an IRGC-affiliated news outlet, ran a glowing piece on him titled “From the Iranian Parliament to the White House,” calling him the mastermind behind the “Friendship Plan” to soften up America toward the regime. He visited the Obama White House at least three times, including meetings with top National Security Council officials like Robert Malley. He is technically operating as an unregistered foreign agent. Masoumeh Ebtekar - also known as "Screaming Mary" - was the spokeswoman for the Islamic terrorists who stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days - subjecting them to beatings, starvation, and mock executions.
In 2014, the Obama Administration granted visas to her son and his family to enter the United States. In June 2016, the Obama Administration gave them lawful permanent resident status via the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.
This week, I terminated their lawful permanent resident status and today, Seyed Eissa Hashemi, Maryam Tahmasebi, and their son are now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending their removal from our country.
Her family should never have been allowed to benefit from the extraordinary privilege of living in our country.
America can never become home for anti-American terrorists or their families - and under the Trump Administration, it never will.
