@HighyieldHarry Do you ever wonder why every software, app or service you use suck? It’s because there are no actual adults in tech.

“Virtually ZERO sovereign AI capability”? UK is No.3 on the planet according to Top Ranked AI Nations (TRAIN) Index. And tell that to Isambard-AI, the 11th most powerful supercomputer on earth, funded by the last Conservative government and unveiled at the Bletchley summit we convened to put Britain at the front of global AI. Britain is building its own frontier model right now, backed by a £500m fund. As ever from Reform: capital letters, no plan. Why are you always talking Britain down?

I’ve warned for months that America would soon restrict access to state of the art frontier AI models for national security reasons. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED. Thanks to the catastrophic energy policies pursued by the Tories and Labour, Britain has virtually ZERO sovereign AI capability. Now we will be cut off from the most powerful AI models, and will soon end up being TOTALLY AT THE MERCY of China America and others who will be able bring to bear intelligence capable of defeating all our security systems in short order. WE MUST CHANGE COURSE NOW

Britain urgently needs to maximise sovereign AI capabilities - tho this also means keeping strong trusted US relationships. Losing access to frontier models is a major blow for British businesses and their employees, and our security. We need to rapidly permit data centres, build cheap energy sources, and create a business environment that attracts more top AI researchers and startups. Not Miliband's Net Zero madness. US govt is of course right that AI safety is important. But it’s best ensured by transparency and public-private partnerships (e.g. AISI's work with Anthropic) not by suddenly banning access for key allies like Britain.
Anthropic@AnthropicAI

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Just a reminder for the liberals trying to spin a dumb narrative about immigration, USMNT star Folarin Balogun was born in Brooklyn, New York. He’s a US citizen, not an immigrant. PS: Conservatives support LEGAL immigration

Amodei was on a wellness retreat…on a Friday…during the day…when his new model was dropping. I have no words.
Sophia Cai@SophiaCai99

NEW: Inside the 24-hrs before WH slapped export controls on Anthropic - Last Thursday, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raised concerns about Fable jailbreak to Trump admin - Friday AM, Sean Cairncross, Bessent, Susie etc. held WH call to discuss - Then White House started reaching out to Anthropic to speak with Dario Amodei, who was at a wellness retreat. - When Amodei was finally available past 1pm, he had three tense phone calls with a combo of ppl including Cairncross, Bessent, Lutnick, Kessler, Will Scharf, Richard Walters, and Walker Barrett. -Amodei tried to clear up what he assumed was a misunderstanding. He defended the guardrails and distinguished between universal and non-universal jailbreak - Cairncross and Bessent were unmoved and asked Amodei to take down Fable and work with the admin to fix the vulnerabilities. (A WH official said Amazon’s findings were run past the NSA and they felt they had “proof.”) - Amodei asked for more time and info, but he made no commitments to pull the model - Bessent told Amodei directly at one point that he was making a “bad decision” - By Friday evening, the Trump admin imposed its export controls. - “Export controls were a last resort after begging them for hours to work with us,” senior WH official said. @DisgracedProp They’re extremely middle eastern in that regard. They circle the wagons and destroy anyone in their path. I always find it hilarious when people say Jews are Eastern European. Not even close.

@CaitlinPacific Ancient Greek tragedies were mass entrainment. Mozart and Verdi were mass popular entertainers. If the masses don’t enjoy art together then it’s not art. It’s pretentious crap.

I think one of the reasons that Anthropic didn't make much of an effort to prevent Chinese distillation attacks (you have no way of detecting that? Really?) was because Chinese AI advancement was one way they could justify continuing to build despite their safetyist posture.

@AlistairCarns @Dom_Hallas I wish you luck. Britain has extraordinary tech talent that is criminally underpaid. It’s also criminal Britain doesn’t have cheap energy, a result of political sabotage. From a hardware perspective, I’d focus on bio and team up with Ireland. There’s excellent know-how.

.@Dom_Hallas is right. These aren't normal times. The £1.1bn AI Hardware Plan is a serious first step. It backs the layer underneath the models with the national infrastructure to deliver it, and engineers to run it. Own that layer and you're much harder to cut off, which is what long-term resilience looks like. But a plan like that takes years to pay off, and we are exposed now. So we need to go hard at the ground we hold. Fix planning rules. Get energy costs down. Up-skill our people and get the infrastructure built in places that benefit most. This is ours to deliver and every month we wait is a month we don’t get back. And I hope this will be part of the conversation with @bbclaurak tomorrow...
Dom Hallas@Dom_Hallas

I've written about Anthropic, the kill switch, and what it means for Britain. Successive Governments have taken AI seriously in the context of 'normal times'. But these are not normal times. We need to respond now to ensure Britain isn't left behind. open.substack.com/pub/startupcoa…

@ColonelTowner Grok gives me a lot of absurd answers too when I use it for work on topics I already know about. Some clearly PC answers that I find unacceptable when dealing with actual scientific information I am looking for. I worry about doctors using this crap.
