“Pakistan’s real transformation depends not on policymaking alone but on effective, citizen‑centred governance,” said Prof. Ahsan Iqbal @betterpakistan, Federal Minister @PlanComPakistan, at a @SDPIPakistan–UNDP policy dialogue in Islamabad. He stressed that empowered local governments are essential, as provincial capitals cannot address challenges in remote districts. 🏠In Urak, Balochistan, 700+ climate-disaster resilient homes are being rebuilt using smart local design and inputs. These are cooler homes for heat adaptation, w accessible layouts for people with different mobility needs, and reinforced beams to withstand seismic shocks. In Sindh Province, Pakistan, UNDP’s Flood Recovery Programme, supported by Global Affairs Canada, is restoring livelihoods, rehabilitating 40 schools for about 15,000 students and strengthening community resilience after the 2022 floods. In Dadu District, with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency, improved water access and restored farmland and irrigation infrastructure are benefiting around 19,000 people. Climate-induced floods can disrupt education — damaging schools and making it harder for children, especially girls, to access safe learning spaces. 📚 #UNDPinPakistan and @CanadaDev/@CanHCPakistan are rehabilitating 40 schools in three districts of Sindh affected by the 2022 floods, improving infrastructure and WASH facilities to help nearly 15,000 students — including 10,000 girls — return to safer classrooms. A joint mission recently visited schools in Larkana to kick off rehabilitation works and engage with communities. #UNDPinPakistan Deputy Resident Representative @Van_ntn noted that the #TFGBV Strategy provides a roadmap for clear ownership, coordinated action, and survivor-centred delivery. ✅ She welcomed the strong cross-sector presence — government, parliament, justice actors, regulators, civil society, academia, media, and partners — as a clear signal that #TFGBV is a public safety and justice priority. 🤝👩‍⚖️

“Strengthening the Parliament is crucial for accountable, transparent and citizen-responsive governance,” said @AyazSadiq122, Speaker @NAofPakistan, at the Opening Plenary of second day of the #PakistanGovernanceForum2026. The session also featured a panel to launch the latest issue of Development Advocate Pakistan, #UNDPinPakistan flagship policy publication. Moderated by Dr. @SamuelRizk, UNDP Resident Representative, the panel included insights from @BilalAKayani, Minister of State for Finance and Railways; Saba Gul Khattak, former Member @PlanComPakistan; @SamWaldock of @FCDOGovUK; and Mirjam Buedenbender Buchholz, Head of Cooperation for @GermanyinPAK.

The climate finance session focused on making investment smarter, fairer and more inclusive. @Van_ntn, #UNDPinPakistan Deputy Resident Representative emphasized that #ClimateFinance must be targeted and equitable. “Without standardized vulnerability data, we risk missing those most in need.” Moderated by Ali Tauqeer Sheikh of @PakistanADB, the panel featured @afkhwaja of @SECPakistan, Arslan Faheem of @DAIGlobal, Sadia Abbasi of @ukinpakistan and @PernilleUNICEF of @UNICEF_Pakistan, highlighting private capital and inclusive policy as drivers of resilient communities.

The session From Provinces to People: The Struggle for Effective Local Governance examined the path toward meaningful devolution. “Real devolution is tested not on paper but in the lives of people — in empowered communities, stronger districts and governance that sits close to citizens,” speakers noted. Moderated by @KaiserIshaq, Assistant Resident Representative #UNDPinPakistan, the panel featured @Conv_KMS, Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training; @WajihaQmr, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training; Farhatullah Babar, President of the Human Rights Cell; Dr. Shahid Soraya, Director General of the @PIEPakistangov; Zafarullah Khan, Convener of the Parliamentary Research Group; and Javed Ahmed Malik, Team Leader ILMpact at @pkBritish, emphasizing district-level authority and genuine political–administrative commitment as foundations of effective local governance.

The panel on Unlocking Women’s Economic Potential explored how systems must evolve to enable women’s full participation. Moderated by @TariqNadia, Gender Lead #UNDPinPakistan, the discussion reinforced that women’s economic participation is not only an education issue — it is shaped by inclusion, safety, accountability and clear pathways to livelihoods. Dr. Nishat Riaz of @MalalaFund, @jamshedmkazi of @unwomenpak, @MalihaHusain of @Mehergarh1, @FauziaViqar, Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment at the Workplace, and Rida Qazi, Advisor to the Chairman Senate on Special Initiatives and Investment, stressed that reform, dignified work and institutional accountability must align to unlock potential at scale.

The session Governing the Capital: ICT Governance Reforms addressed the need for clearer mandates and stronger metropolitan coordination. Moderated by @dadamkhan, Governance Consultant, UNDP, the panel featured @DrTariqFazal, Federal Minister, Parliamentary Affairs, Zafarullah Khan of Jurisconsults; Jawed Ali Khan of @UNHABITAT; @umerijazgilani, Advocate Supreme Court; and @AnitaUsama, Project Manager Reforms and Innovation #UNDPinPakistan, emphasizing legal reform, urban planning and institutional coherence for a more responsive Islamabad Capital Territory.

The session on timely hazard detection, forecasting, communication and response to natural disasters focused on providing timely and actionable early warning to the vulnerable communities. Keynote speaker @DrMusadikMalik, Minister for @ClimateChangePK, stressed that early warning systems must reach the last mile in time to minimize human impact. Moderated by Shiraz Ali Shah, Assistant Resident Representative #UNDPinPakistan, the panel featured @aisha4climate of @mgpoofficial; Bahadur Nawab Khattak, former Chairperson of COMSATS; Nusrat Nasab of FHAP; and Idrees Mehsud of @ndmapk, and focused on strengthening early hazard detection, forecasting, and disaster response while emphasizing the importance of evidence-based policies, stronger local coordination, and community-based resilience to build a safer, climate-resilient Pakistan.
