News today: "Manufacturers use light-based lithography systems made by the Dutch company ASML, which dominates ​the market. Lace has developed a new approach. Instead of ​light, Lace's engineers have made a form of lithography that uses a helium atom beam. With that, the Norwegian company will be able to create chip designs that are 10 times as small as what is currently possible" "The main advantage of the helium atom beam is the industry could create features such as transistors, ‌the ⁠building blocks of modern chips, an order of magnitude smaller to an "almost unimaginable" degree, according to John Petersen, Scientific Director of Lithography at Imec, a research and innovation hub for the chip industry. The beam Lace will use to make chips is about the width of a single hydrogen atom, or 0.1 nanometer. ASML's lithography tools use ​a beam of light that ​is about 13.5 nanometers; ⁠a human hair is about 100,000 nanometers wide. Smaller transistors and other features would give chipmakers the ability to ramp up the performance of advanced AI processors well beyond ​the current capabilities. A fire truck was trying to cross runway 04 at LGA - LaGuardia Airport this evening to get to a United Airlines flt 2384 that had 2 rejected takeoffs. The United 737 Max declared an emergency on the ground and requested fire trucks due to a strange odor that was making the flight attendants sick. The fire “TRUCK 1” was cleared to cross runway 04 to respond to the United flight when it collided with the Air Canada / Jazz CRJ. Listen to the audio via @theATCapp gives you an idea of how task saturated LaGuardia Control Tower became trying to deal with this emergency and caused another emergency that ended in loss of life. 🙏

A passenger on an Air Canada flight says it was "chaos" after the plane collided with a fire truck while landing at New York's LaGuardia Airport, killing the flight's pilot and copilot and injuring dozens, officials said. Follow live updates cnn.it/3NodW8V

I have been briefed on the tragic collision that took place at LaGuardia Airport late last night. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident, and the City is in close contact with federal, state, and local partners. I am grateful to our first responders, whose swift actions saved lives. The flight operator, Air Canada, has set up a hotline for friends and families of affected passengers: 1-800-961-7099. LaGuardia Airport is currently closed. The Port Authority advises travelers to check with their airline for the latest flight information before coming to the airport.

Congrats @extropic on the Phys Rev Applied paper ~15 attojoules per sample, which is an order of magnitude better than what @GillVerd promised us on his last MLST appearance! Not simulations anymore i.e. real TSMC silicon / measurements. Next they need to scale up from 3 degrees of freedom. Watching with interest.
