@SamKautz @Bitcoin_Teddy The trade deficit between me and taco bell in ridiculous. All they do is take my money. Thousands of dollars. And then I have a garage sale last week and they don't even show up to buy a dvd? I'm putting tariffs on the crunchwrap supreme.

@Bitcoin_Teddy Trump believing trade deficits are losses for the U.S. and this big unfair thing is one of his dumbest ideas, which is saying a lot considering he has almost exclusively dumb ideas. Only thing dumber is all of you that believe the words coming out of his mouth 🤣🤣🤣

Trump: “I love Canada … But the United States can't subsidize a country for $200 billion a year … You have to run your own country. And to be honest with you, Canada only works as a state … I'm sorry, we have to do this.”

@jkarttunen @hmurari @aerockrose Yes, that's a game theory answer, which is what Ballmer would be looking for. If you can explain finding a Nash equilibrium that actually guarantees positive expected value (not sure this does) you've likely got the job.

Steve Ballmer reveals the interview test Microsoft used to separate problem-solvers from gamblers: "I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100. First guess, I give you $5. Then $4, $3, $2, $1. After that, you pay me." "There are far more numbers on which you lose than win."

@aerockrose Do binary search for 3 rounds, then always assume he would think adversarially and go to margins of probabiliyy space (i.e. no 57/58). If you still havent hit by last free guess, stop playing. He never stipulated you have to finish the game.

@hmurari @aerockrose He's purposefully picking numbers that take more steps in a binary search. If you can eliminate half with each guess, you're playing into a losing game by binary searching against a rigged choice.

@DavidV_81 @davepl1968 You're getting it. Replace the ethanol farms with solar farms. It's 10x+ more energy to put panels in those places rather than use it for making ethanol.

@jgndev @davepl1968 Growing corn for ethanol is really inefficient use of land and worse for the environment and yet we're doing that. 50% of all new power capacity in the US is solar right now because it's the cheapest, it's going to be a large part of the grid.

@davepl1968 Terrible idea to replace productive agriculture land with this. Far more practical to use rooftops etc. These things aren’t environmentally friendly at scale large enough to produce meaningful amounts of power in any case.

@GarretisonX @davepl1968 Cities are heat islands, panels are less efficient when hot. Cities have more local pollution blocking/scattering light and leaving oil films on panels. Cities have more complex shading issues with surrounding buildings.

@davepl1968 Why does it make a remarkable difference in efficiency if there's nothing throwing shade across them? Is there that much light reflecting off the surrounding ground and back off the atmosphere to make a difference, or something else?

@mwirkk1 @davepl1968 Arguably both are fine. They are easier to install and more efficient in a field. The amount of corn we grow just for ethanol...worse for the environment and way less energy per the space.

@davepl1968 save, I'm normally on your side, but I'm thoroughly unclear about the message here... Normally I'm accustomed to, "don't cover productive AG fields w/ panels, but unproductive Urban surfaces instead" Full disclosure: t'was IT/Dev 27+yrs, but still a WldLfBio major at my core.

@SmokeEx @birdabo There's potential for it to be misaligned and do bad of course but it's not a given that it will 'want' to do that. If you get 100 reward points (they're all you care about) for going outside and coming back, and nothing for running away...

@JoeGuglielmucci @cmuratori He wasn't arguing to constrain them. If they're really the best they already know what they're doing. If their use of unlimited tokens is less than you expect there might be a reason for that...they're better than the AI output on whatever task.

My opinion is that one would assume your playful skepticism naturally. But if you actually peel it back and look, how is that correct? Why would you opt for your best minds to not have unlimited token access and training with the latest models as they drop? I see your point and even so, its still a losing argument.

While I understand what Jensen was trying to say, if a chip designer said they normally used pencil and paper to do their designs, I would probably assume they were baller AF, not the other way around.
TFTC@TFTC21

Jensen Huang: "If that $500,000 engineer did not consume at least $250,000 worth of tokens, I am going to be deeply alarmed. This is no different than a chip designer who says 'I'm just going to use paper and pencil. I don't think I'm going to need any CAD tools.'"

My biggest complaint about income taxes isn't just the monetary cost, but the time, stress and backward wealth redistribution effects. Income taxes hit solo/small businesses hardest because it's adds a lot of resistance in the form or paperwork, accounting, auditing, etc

@avidgamefan @cmuratori @teej_dv You set up an account for your kid, it now follows all relevant laws. Age restricted apps and sites will probably be forced to deny service based on this OS provided age.

@cmuratori @teej_dv If there's no verification, what do the politicians think will be accomplished? Why don't they at least define what the age is used for? Will a 12 year old be allowed to use the computer?

@cmuratori Under current law raw LLM output isn't copyrightable so the "attacks" are just allegedly violating Anthropic's TOC. Less illegal than what Anthropic has actually done to obtain and use copyrighted works.

I like how they called them "attacks". Do they also call it an "attack" when Anthropic does the stealing? Or is it only when someone else steals their IP that it goes from "fair use" or "downloading data for research purposes" to being an "attack"?
Anthropic@AnthropicAI

We’ve identified industrial-scale distillation attacks on our models by DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, and MiniMax. These labs created over 24,000 fraudulent accounts and generated over 16 million exchanges with Claude, extracting its capabilities to train and improve their own models.

@Raindropsmedia1 Splitting the bill happens when everyone is out at the same level. If everyone is balling out, you have to order a steak to keep up. If everyone is ordering conservatively, you shouldn’t be balling out. The group needs to be on the same level.
