I thought for the longest time that people talking about the "Islamicization" of NYC were being hysterical, but I can't ignore this anymore. There's a certain buck-a-slice pizza chain in Manhattan that has been taping "We Don't Sell Pork" signs at all their restaurants. I took these pictures while coming home this morning. If you don't want to eat pork, fine whatever. But it's not enough for Muslims to avoid pork themselves, they have to impose their dietary choices on everyone else. Hence this restaurant's sign, as if it might wound a Muslim's soul to walk into their fine establishment and have to smell sausage in the oven (or worse, a filthy infidel eating a sausage slice). This goes hand-in-hand with the other trend I noticed since moving back a year ago: every other food truck is "halal." And we're not talking immigrant-heavy neighborhoods; leave Penn Station and the stalls are all proudly proclaiming that they're halal. WHY is this a thing? I suspect at least that all the halal food trucks are owned by the same company, but there isn't anywhere near this demand for halal food. Not in Manhattan, anyway. Again, it's not enough for Muslims to keep to their diet; they have to force everyone else to eat it, too. Jews don't do this, even in places where they have a numerical advantage. The Stop and Shop in Rockland County sells pork chops and chorizo. I can walk into the QuickChek in Nanuet and walk out with a ham sub and the Hasids aren't gonna give me shit about it. We not only have this halalification of NYC cuisine, but there have been news reports of Muslims in Europe attacking non-Muslims for eating during Ramadan. A few years ago, I was planning a trip to London for my friend's wedding and was looking for an Airbnb. Combing through the listings, a LOT of them were owned by Pakistanis, all of whom had rules banning guests from drinking and refusing to book couples unless they were married. Don't give me some asinine lolbert "it's THEIR Airbnb they can do what they want" argument. The point is that a third of Airbnbs in LONDON should not be run on Islamic rules. I lived in Albania, a Muslim-majority country (on paper), during the COVID lockdowns and my landlord didn't care about me drinking or banging my then-girlfriend. Hell, he welcomed me to Tirana with a shot of raki (side note: raki is disgusting). I've been watching @LevPo's interviews with @Jason_Jorjani and Jorjani has made the point that the election of Sadiq Khan as London mayor led to a mass influx of Muslims, enough so that entire sections of the city are under de facto Sharia law. With New York now having a Muslim mayor, I can't help but wonder if that's the fate of this city. Mamdani's housing plans certainly seem designed to drive out all the filthy kafir by making it too expensive to own or rent, allowing him to turn newly foreclosed buildings into public housing for a stream of Muslims who will materialize from overseas. Until then, I'm not patronizing halal anything. I'm an American, goddamnit. I will grill pork chops even if the smell tempts Muhammad to sin.

@dylanypyen I agree with you most of the time, but the point of congestion pricing is NOT to collect it, but to deter people from driving (and take other modes instead). We could debate whether the current price structure is working, though.

Isn't the @NYC_DOT and any fat cat contractor they hire responsible for clearing at, and around bus shelters? This is one of the biggest fails of the clean-up. @NYCMayor should be calling people to the carpet today.

A man walking in the street on Madison Avenue to get bus at 50th Street right now Cause both bus stops at 49th & 50th streets have snow piled in front of them. No path has been cleared for riders to access buses from these 2 bus shelters @fox5ny @NYCMayor @NYC_DOT #snow #nyc #bus #mta

@nicolegelinas Out of curiosity, I went to try and register as an emergency snow shoveler for DOT/DSNY to help with the bus stops and crosswalks. Next available hiring appointment? MID-MARCH.

So everyone sees the snow through their own transportation mode. The cyclists are like "why aren't the bike lanes plowed! This is injustice!" The walkers are like "why aren't the crosswalks plowed! This is injustice!" The bus riders are like "why aren't the bus stops plowed! This is injustice!" But the reality is that the snow has to go somewhere. It is not just vanishing. And where you put it for the next few weeks shows who you prioritize. I would propose piling it all into the middle of the roadbed, thus keeping the bike lane, crosswalk, and bus lane clear. And then instituting emergency measures for drivers -- three-passenger (not including paid driver) occupancy to enter core Manhattan or any outer-borough commercial district.

@nicolegelinas And the carriage people are like: “We’ve got 4-hoof drive! We don’t care where the snow is… just let us out to work!” (Suspended since Friday night, for either cold or snow.)

@nicolegelinas This was also filmed during morning rush hour (8-10AM, M-F), as opposed to the majority of the time when there was no motorized traffic on the West Drive at all. But yeah, no cars wrong way in the bike/jogging lane back then. And cars stopped for red lights at the crosswalks.

This is fine and good, but it's also fine and good to acknowledge that people are concerned about wrong-way motorized bikes (incorrectly called "e-bikes"), wrong-way dirtbikes, wrong-way motorized scooters, etc. etc. etc., many of them ingressing into the ped lanes and exceeding the speed limit. We had a motorized-bike driver killed in a crash with a pedestrian this year, which is a serious thing.

@nicolegelinas True, but it's also great to shop at Gristedes and D'Agostino's because they are usually far, far less crowded than Whole Foods (especially on the Upper East). Can get in and out quickly even if the prices are a tad higher

There are still the NYers who will say to you, "You shop at Whole Foods, you must be a millionaire." Well no. One of the funny things about NYC is that across the product line, the Whole Foods is cheaper than our neighborhood grocery stores, and the WF still does things like have a fresh butcher and fish counter. Even the Eataly can be cheaper than our neighborhood stores!!!

For the hundredth time, the horses are healthy and content, and it's a commercially successful business. To be effective, Mamdani has to distinguish serious people from liars, neurotics, quacks, one-track-minded loonies. And the real-estate guy that's pulling their strings.

Thank you @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani -We can read between the lines, even if the animal rights extremists don't want to! You'll want them off your back, but when you meet the drivers, their horses, & vets I'm sure you'll be on the right side of history preserving the industry!
