The World Has Spoken: A Clear International Stand for Somalia’s Sovereignty The international community has expressed a clear and consistent defense of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In discussions today, regional and multilateral organizations, including the African Union, Arab League, European Union, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, reaffirmed that Somalia is one, indivisible state under international law. From Africa to the Arab world and Europe, the message was steady: unilateral actions that threaten the sovereignty of a UN member state are destabilizing and unacceptable. This stance was supported at the highest level of global governance. All five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council addressed the issue. The United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China reaffirmed Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The United States did not recognize Somaliland and confirmed its support for a unified Somalia. The lack of international endorsement and the shared positions expressed today highlight a simple truth: the international system continues to acknowledge Somalia’s unity and does not accept unilateral actions that violate its sovereignty.
