Horrified by the mass shooting in Austin early this morning that killed two people and left 14 more injured. It’s past time our Republican colleagues work with us to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer. cnn.com/2026/03/01/us/…

I’m horrified and heartbroken by the mass shooting today in downtown Austin. As we mourn those we’ve lost, let us also pray for those still in critical condition. I’m thankful to Austin’s police, EMS, nurses, and doctors who saved lives. We must end America’s gun violence epidemic. Americans should be able to have fun at a bar without it turning into an unspeakable nightmare like this one— and I will redouble my efforts in Congress to prevent the next tragedy like this.

The Trump administration has diverted 80% of ATF agents from gun trafficking cases – all to target immigrants.   He’s letting actual criminals get off scot-free while attacking cities like Chicago.

Led 130 Democrats to call on Speaker Johnson to put America’s prayers for safety into action. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children, teenagers and law enforcement. It’s time GOP leadership works with Democrats to address this epidemic.

But instead, Trump & Republicans ended the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, spent $1.7 billion to make silencers, and slashed law enforcement funding that keeps communities safe. That’s why I joined 130 Democrats & @HouseGVP urging Speaker Johnson to answer Americans’ prayers with action, not just words.

My hometown of Monterey Park lost 11 lives and saw 9 injured in a mass shooting. Thoughts & prayers were appreciated, but we needed action. Democrats & Republicans once worked together on gun safety. There are so many common-sense policies that would save lives.

Republicans prayed after Columbine, and Sandy Hook, and Uvalde. The list goes on. If prayer alone could end gun violence, we’d be the safest country on earth by now. So once @realDonaldTrump, @SpeakerJohnson, and @LeaderJohnThune are done praying, I invite them to stand up and do something. Work with Democrats to pass legislation to keep our kids safe. Until then, the blood of every child gunned down across our country is on their hands.

Today’s shooting in Minneapolis is truly heartbreaking and devastating. No one should have to fear for their life, or their children’s lives, while praying. I am keeping the victims and their families in my prayers. We MUST do better to protect our communities from gun violence.

We’re devastated to learn that two children—aged eight and 10— were killed in the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. 17 others were injured, including 14 children—two in critical condition. Our hearts are with their families as they face this unbearable tragedy.

Donald Trump and MAGA republicans only care about crime when they can use it to demonize immigrants or show power. They don’t give a damn about the safety of our kids and communities. Meanwhile, Dems will continue to fight for real public safety and gun reform.

I am sick with grief for Annunciation Catholic School. Two children murdered at Mass. More than a dozen children wounded. A church-full of others and their families forever traumatized. Innocents met with terror and gunfire, hit with bullets as they prayed. An act of pure evil. In this country, we have grown too accustomed to offering thoughts and prayers. Columbine. Virginia Tech. West Nickel Mines School. Sandy Hook. Parkland. Uvalde. An unending list of unspeakable tragedies. Thoughts and prayers didn’t prevent at least two children — 8 and 10 years old — from being murdered in their pews today. They didn’t save the lives of worshipers at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, or Mother Emmanuel AME in Charleston. It takes action. When will we do something — anything — to lead our children and our country out of these preventable horrors? As we learn more, I beg of all lawmakers to have the courage to ask how we can prevent gun violence — because we can. Let us announce real action. I’m grateful for law enforcement, first responders, and hospital staff. Yet I am utterly heartbroken for the entire Minnesota community, those wounded and forever scarred by unspeakable trauma. There really are no adequate words. May God bless the families of Annunciation; and may we understand that the children of Annunciation are not just God’s children, they are our own.

Today, we remember the 23 lives taken from us on August 3, 2019. We continue to grieve with their families and loved ones, and we honor the impact they each made in this world.  It is impossible to think of August 3rd without recognizing that this horrific violence did not happen in a vacuum. In the days and years before the shooting, Donald Trump so repeatedly demonized Latinos that the man who drove over 10 hours to target our community believed he was fulfilling the president’s wishes. Trump’s hateful rhetoric created fertile ground for extremists to justify violence against innocent people. As we remember the victims, we must continue fighting the dehumanizing rhetoric that breeds hate and violence, especially when it’s comes from those in positions of power and influence. Words matter. There is so much the country can learn from El Paso — our resilience, our kindness, our generosity and warmth.  May the memories of those lost six years ago be a call to action to pursue the highest ideals of justice, empathy, and above all, love.

6 years ago, a racist mass shooting in El Paso stole 23 innocent lives and left a permanent scar on the Latino community and our country. Today, we honor their memory with a renewed commitment to end America’s gun violence epidemic and root out hate in all its forms.

Six years ago, a gunman in El Paso murdered 23 innocent people and wounded 22 others in the worst targeted attack against Latinos in U.S. history. As we remember those we lost in the El Paso mass shooting, we must condemn racist rhetoric that tears apart our communities and makes us less safe, and stop dangerous people from getting dangerous weapons so easily.

Gun violence in this country is an epidemic. The tragic loss of a brave police officer and innocent civilians is far too common. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, from the Tree of Life synagogue to the Pulse nightclub, from Charleston to today’s shooting in Midtown Manhattan, we must put an end to the easy access to weapons of war that continue to take innocent lives.

Congressional Republicans are giving a handout to the gun lobby by eliminating the $200 tax on silencers and easily concealable short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns. We’ve regulated silencers and these guns for 90+ years for a reason: to keep people safe.
