#MINEMBWE_RDC #BANYAMULENGE PUBLIC STATEMENT Mahoro Peace Association (MPA) strongly condemns the killing of Banyamulenge civilians in Ilundu village, Minembwe, on the night of June 6–7, 2026. While families were sleeping, shells and drones struck homes, a school, and civilians. This was not a battlefield attack. Innocent people were targeted. Two young people were killed: Prince Runezerwa Mahiyabo (19) Trésor Kigeri Mazuru At least six others, including children were injured. A primary school was also damaged. This attack is not an isolated event. It is part of years of violence against the Banyamulenge people. MPA believes these acts must be recognized as part of an ongoing genocide. The attacks also raise serious concern about violations of the Washington Peace Agreement, which requires the protection of civilians and a ceasefire. #RDC: La situation actuelle des Banyamulenge en République démocratique du Congo reflète plus de huit années de violences systématiques et de persécutions prolongées, pouvant s’apparenter à des actes de génocide. Identifiés comme Tutsis, ils ont été ciblés par des attaques répétées : plus de 450 villages détruits, plus de 750 000 bovins — leur principale source de subsistance — pillés, ainsi que des assassinats ciblés, une insécurité permanente et des déplacements forcés massifs. Aujourd’hui, plus de 70 % de la population banyamulenge a été contrainte à l’exil, trouvant refuge dans des pays voisins tels que le Burundi, le Rwanda, l’Ouganda, la Tanzanie et le Kenya. Ceux qui restent en RDC sont confinés dans des zones restreintes comme Minembwe et les hauts plateaux d’Uvira, où ils vivent sous menace constante, privés de sécurité et de moyens de survie.

#RDC 🇨🇩: à Minembwe, des habitants appellent au déploiement des FARDC À Minembwe-centre, dans le territoire de Fizi au Sud-Kivu, plusieurs habitants affirment attendre avec « impatience » l’arrivée des Forces armées de la République démocratique du Congo (FARDC), dans un contexte marqué par la présence de groupes armés locaux. « Tout Congolais digne de ce nom ne peut pas souhaiter être sécurisé ou défendu par des milices. La prérogative de sécuriser la population revient à l’armée nationale. Nous attendons avec impatience l’arrivée de notre armée », ont déclaré lundi certains habitants rencontrés sur place. Un taximan motard de la zone indique également que des notables locaux auraient appelé à la retenue. « Même des vieux sages de notre village ont demandé à nos frères Twirwaneho d’éviter des affrontements avec les FARDC, car ils n’ont pas les moyens de combattre une armée régulière », affirme-t-il. Dans un communiqué, les FARDC assurent qu’elles « ne peuvent jamais s’attaquer à la population qu’elles sécurisent ». L’armée congolaise précise que ses opérations visent plutôt à neutraliser « les milices, les rebelles et autres groupes armés » accusés de troubler la sécurité dans la région. Minembwe reste l’un des foyers sensibles du Sud-Kivu, où les tensions entre groupes armés et forces régulières alimentent un climat d’incertitude pour les populations civiles.
