As we enter into the 100 days of Kwibuka 32 to remember the 1994 Rwandan Genocide Against the Tutsi I counsel the world to remember that genocide ideology did not die. In fact, that dark spiritual institutional sin of violence based on race, religion, or ethnicity has lived in the human heart since the beginning of time. Just when we think humanity has overcome our depravity, it arises again. In recent human history it has lived in place such as the the Turkish purge of the Armenian people, the Jewish Holocaust, and the destruction of Native Americans during America's westward expansion. In Africa genocide ideology shifted locations to the Democratic Republic of Congo. You can see the fruit of genocide ideology any place in which Banyamulenge refugees have scattered around the world. Their churches meet every Sunday in scattered refugee settlements in Africa, Europe, and North America. One will always be struck by the beauty of their worship and joy in their hospitality. Yet, if one chooses to listen, the stories of violent persecution and flight are the common narrative. The Banyamulenge abroad have a uniting organization called Mahoro Peace Association. They are active on X / Twitter and easy to follow. Please take the time to follow their news and perspective. If you really do believe #NeverAgain you should listen to their voices and be their advocates. If you think they and I are just speaking nonsense just go to our X / Twitter account and look at the responses that come in every time we speak well of Uganda, Rwanda, and cattle keeping people of Africa's Great Lakes. Most of the responses are gracious. Yet, without a doubt haters will come out who with the most vile language cheer for ethnic violence. Genocide ideology against Tutsi people still lives, breaths, plots, and persuades in the hearts of darkness. #Kwibuka32 #RememberUniteRenew

🚨COORDINATED ATTACKS DEVASTATE BANYAMULENGE VILLAGES IN UVIRA (KUNDONDO) 🚨 Women and children are fleeing into forests as Banyamulenge villages in Kundondo come under attack. Available information indicates that FARDC, operating with the Burundian military (FNDB), and supported by FDLR & Wazalendo militias, are conducting coordinated ground operations affecting villages including: Kukiziba, Mukanogo, Nyakirango, Mubijanda, Mukinyoni, Kajembwe & others. Thousands of civilians, children, women, the elderly are displaced, hiding in forests with no shelter, food, or protection. Civilians must be protected. Humanitarian access now. Attacks must stop. #Uvira #DRCongo #ProtectCivilians #Banyamulenge #HumanRights #ForcedDisplacement #Uvira #DRCongo #ProtectCivilians #Banyamulenge #HumanRights #StopAttacks @marcorubio @StateDept @US_SrAdvisorAF @USAmbUN @USAmbDRC @MONUSCO @amnestyus @jumuiya @DiplomatieTogo @_AfricanUnion @angola_Mirex @WilliamsRuto @KagutaMuseveni @PaulKagame @IsokoUSA @MaishaRdc @wembi_steve @benbabunga @ScoviaMutesi

🕯️ Kwibuka 32 | Remembrance & Reflection 🕯️ Today marks the beginning of #Kwibuka32, a period of remembrance honoring the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Mahoro Peace Association(MPA) stands in deep solidarity with the people of Rwanda, remembering the lives lost, honoring survivors, and reaffirming the commitment to Never Again. As we remember, we must also reflect with honesty and courage: genocidal ideology did not end in 1994. It continues to manifest today in eastern Congo, where Tutsi/Banyamulenge communities face persecution, hate speech, forced displacement, and violence rooted in the same ideology of dehumanization. On this solemn occasion, we also pay tribute to the men and women who courageously brought an end to the genocide and to those who dedicated themselves to rebuilding Rwanda—restoring dignity, unity, and hope from the ashes of unimaginable tragedy. Remembrance is not only about the past. It is a call for vigilance, truth, and action wherever such ideology persists. 🕯️ We remember. 🕯️ We stand with survivors. 🕯️ We reject genocide—everywhere, always. #Kwibuka32 #NeverAgain #AgainstGenocide

Thank you @FistoNdayi27358, for this advocacy video, which powerfully brings to light a truth that is too often ignored or dismissed. The systemic discrimination against the Banyamulenge, Tutsi and Hema, is not peripheral, but a central root cause of the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC. This short video gives a voice to communities, that have endured decades of marginalization, exclusion, and targeted violence, while remaining resilient in the face of persistent erasure. The mesage is grounded in lived experiences and historical context, it courageously confronts narratives that seek to deny or downplay this reality. We will continue to urge the world not only to see, but to understand, care, and take meaningful action. @RepChrisSmith @RepSaraJacobs @Sheila4Congress @RepBrianMast @RepRonnyJackson @MaElviraSalazar @RepHuizenga @RepJimBaird @RepJJackson @RepJayapal @OlszewskiMd @StateDept @marcorubio @US_SrAdvisorAF @SenatorGop @AsstSecStateAF @IsokoUSA

#DRCongo #Minembwe At the sidelines of the Feb. 10th’ hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Africa Subcommittee @HouseForeignGOP, Mahoro Peace Association (MPA) met in person and individually with key Subcommittee members, voicing deepest concerns over DRC government bombings using fighters and drones on the vulnerable Banyamulenge minority in Minembwe’s highlands, causing unimaginable suffering, displacement, and loss of life. We also highlighted the devastating humanitarian blockade imposed by DRC forces, Burundian troops, and allied militias, which has cut off food, medicine, and basic supplies, leading to deliberate starvation and a silent genocide against the Tutsi minority. An urgent humanitarian corridor is desperately needed to deliver life-saving aid and prevent further catastrophe. Though absent from the Washington accords, we briefed the subcommittee on their plight. As the chairman noted the Kisangani airport bombing, it was a poignant moment to address similar atrocities in Minembwe. Members pledged follow-up on these critical issues, including the blockade and aid access. A memo was submitted prior to amplify these urgent cries for justice. Watch the video for this emotional testimony. We demand an immediate end to the violence, lifting of the blockade, establishment of humanitarian corridors, accountability, and aid for affected civilians. @marcorubio @StateDept @US_SrAdvisorAF @USAmbUN @USAmbDRC @MONUSCO @amnestyusa @jumuiya @DiplomatieTogo @_AfricanUnion @angola_Mirex @WilliamsRuto @KagutaMuseveni @PaulKagame @IsokoUSA @MaishaRdc @wembi_steve @benbabunga @ScoviaMutesi

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐰𝐞 On Friday, February 7th, the Banyamulenge community organized protests to demand a reassessment of the American decision directing AFC M23 to withdraw from Uvira. This decision has placed the Banyamulenge community in jeopardy. #DRCongo #WashintonAccords “The root cause of the conflict is not being addressed in this agreement,” Kabunda says. “The Banyamulenge are being sidelined for economic gain.” It’s a view that has some traction in Washington. “There cannot be peace in the Congo without first ending anti-Tutsi incitement,” said Michael Rubin of the conservative American Enterprise Institute in a 22 January op-ed. We commend the swift decision by the FARDC General Staff to suspend Major General Sylvain Ekenge following his deeply discriminatory and inflammatory remarks on national television. This rapid response sends a signal that such hate speech from a high-ranking official is unacceptable and contrary to republican values. However, a mere suspension is insufficient to deter others from similar dangerous rhetoric, which echoes genocidal tropes and risks fueling ethnic violence in an already fragile context. To truly uphold national unity and prevent recurrence, stronger measures are essential: a thorough investigation, followed by prosecution under laws against incitement to hatred and discrimination. Anything less risks normalizing such speeches and undermining cohesion. @PatrickMuyaya with his “Poison Rwandais” SHOULD BE NEXT!

Thank you for your relentless advocacy against General Ekenge's vile hate speech, specifically targeting Tutsi women with dehumanizing warnings against intermarriage and portraying them as agents of infiltration, has paid off. The swift suspension of the FARDC spokesperson is a victory owed to courageous voices like yours sounding the alarm against incitement. Yet, this suspension is far from enough. Similar genocidal rhetoric from other DRC officials, politicians, including @PatrickMuyaya, and state-aligned media persists, fueling ethnic hatred and risking mass violence. We need comprehensive investigations, prosecutions, and zero tolerance for all involved to dismantle this dangerous pattern. #StopHateSpeech #GenocidePrevention #ProtectTutsiWomen #ProtectBanyamulenge #HumanRightsInDRC

#DRCongo #FARDC The remarks made by General Ekenge, spokesperson for the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), in this interview, are extremely dangerous and wholly unacceptable. Dehumanizing an ethnic group, warning against intermarriage, and promoting conspiracy theories rooted in so-called “racial superiority” are not harmless words, they are classic markers of genocidal rhetoric. History teaches us a painful lesson: when officials speak this way, violence often follows. These statements do not emerge in isolation. They echo and reinforce what DRC’s Minister of Communication, @PatrickMuyaya has described as “Poison Rwandais”, a narrative now deliberately fused with ethnic hatred to portray Congolese Tutsi/Banyamulenge as an internal enemy that must be eliminated from national life. This dangerous fusion is a calculated attempt to mobilize the population against a specific community. We have seen this pattern before. 1. In Rwanda, authorities depicted Tutsis as deceitful and existential threats, laying the groundwork for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. 2. In Nazi Germany, officials warned against Jews “polluting” society through marriage, a prelude to exclusion, persecution, and mass murder. Similar rhetoric preceded atrocities in the Balkans and in Myanmar. Genocide does not begin with machetes or guns, it begins with words. This is not political discourse. It is not patriotism. It is an unmistakable warning sign. We call on: •The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to publicly condemn these statements and hold those responsible accountable. •Regional and international bodies, including the African Union, United Nations, and human rights mechanisms, to urgently investigate and address incitement to ethnic violence in the DRC. •Civil society, faith leaders, media, and the Congolese diaspora to reject hate speech and stand firmly against the dehumanization of any community. Silence in the face of incitement is complicity. This rhetoric must be stopped now before it leads to irreversible harm. @UN @UNHumanRights @UNGeneva @StateDept @POTUS @SecBlinken @HouseForeign @SenateForeign @EU_Commission @Europarl_EN @hrw @amnesty @Refugees @realDonaldTrump @marcorubio #NeverAgain #GenocidePrevention #StopHateSpeech #ProtectBanyamulenge #ProtectTutsi #HumanRights #DRC

#DrCongo ⚠️ Dangerous Genocidal Rhetoric Emerging from DRC State Officials Gen. Ekenge dehumanizes Congolese Tutsi/Banyamulenge, warns against intermarriage, and promotes “racial superiority.” Minister @PatrickMuyaya “Poison Rwandais” frames the same community as a hidden internal enemy. Different but power voices, one ideology: Ethnic scapegoating to mobilize violence. This is how genocide began in Rwanda (1994), Nazi Germany, the Balkans, and Myanmar. Incitement starts with words. Silence kills. @UN @UNHumanRights @UNGeneva @StateDept @POTUS @SecBlinken @HouseForeign @SenateForeign @EU_Commission @Europarl_EN @hrw @amnesty @Refugees @marcorubio @realDonaldTrump @MaishaRdc @CNangaa @Fkaniki @LawrenceKanyuka @AlexMvuka @AKibasumba

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere! This is the real poison: state-tolerated hatred that costs lives, while the world looks away. And when victims resist, they’re condemned: not the ideology that put them in danger. Watch closely. History is repeating itself.

#Minembwe #DRC 🚨 THE FEARED TRAGEDY WE WARNED FOR, HAS STRUCK 🚨 On Dec 6 in Mikarati, Banyamulenge civilians carrying food supplies were ambushed by Burundian soldiers and their allied wazalendo&FDLR militias. 4 civilians were killed, dozens kidnapped or disappeared. These were families simply trying to survive under a brutal blockade imposed since Oct 17. This is not an accident, it is a deliberate campaign of extermination and starvation. Despite our nationwide protests in the U.S., including the Dec 4th, Washington, D.C. during the DRC–Rwanda peace accord signing ceremony, the international community has failed to act. We demand: • Immediate lifting of the humanitarian blockade • Release of kidnapped civilians • Accountability for Burundian forces, DRC forces and Wazalendo & FDLR allies. The world cannot remain silent. Every hour of inaction costs lives. Stand with Banyamulenge. Raise your voice. Act now. #JusticeForBanyamulenge #StopWarCrimes #MinembweUnderSiege #PeaceWithJustice @realDonaldTrump @SecRubio @US_SrAdvisorAF @bbcgahuza @BurundiEmbUSA @PaulKagame @KagutaMuseveni @onduhungirehe @kayikwambaT

@jumuiya @GeneralNeva @YolandeMakolo @Fkaniki @MofaQatar_EN @US_SrAdvisorAF @GenocideWatch1 @UNGeneva @volker_turk @kajakallas @EU_Commission @UNHumanRights @onduhungirehe @jbserugo @AlexMvuka @AKibasumba @DougGasore @nmuhamiriza @savecongotutsi @kivuutile @Aiglekivu003PKM @Kagigiwacu @i_Birere

Statement from Mahoro Peace Association(MPA), regarding ongoing violence being perpetrated by FDNB, FDLR, FARDC, Against Banyamulenge Civilians in South Kivu #Minembwe ——————————————— H.E. Mr. António Guterres Secretary-General United Nations New York, NY 10017 USA October 22nd, 2025 Re: URGENT APPEAL - Stop the Ongoing Genocide Against Banyamulenge Civilians in South Kivu’s Haut Plateau, Led by The Burundian Armed Forces (FDNB) in Partnership with DR Congo’s Army (FARDC) and Their Sponsored Militias. Your Excellency, Mahoro Peace Association writes with utmost urgency and grave concern regarding the escalating threat of gross human rights violations and genocide by a coalition led by the Burundian National Defence Forces (FDNB), composed of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), and their sponsored militia, Wazalendo, against the Banyamulenge population in the Minembwe Highlands of the DRC. Immediate international intervention is required to prevent an unfolding genocide. Your Excellency, As you may be aware, the DRC is home to a diverse population, including the Banyamulenge—a Tutsi community primarily located in South Kivu Province. Despite their centuries-long presence in the region, the Banyamulenge have been subjected to systematic violence, displacement, and discrimination. The Banyamulenge have experienced repeated persecution throughout modern Congolese history, targeted by both state and non-state militia groups. Significant episodes of violence occurred in 1960, 1964, 1996, and 1998. Notably, in 2004, during the Gatumba massacre in Burundi, 166 innocent Banyamulenge refugees were brutally killed, some burned alive, in a refugee camp on the night of August 13, 2004. Since April 2017, there has been a resurgence of coordinated attacks against the Banyamulenge community, often accompanied by hate speech and dehumanizing rhetoric from both DRC and Burundian government officials. The current situation on the ground is alarming and demands immediate attention and intervention from the United Nations and the broader international community. This alarming development comes exactly 21 years after the tragic Gatumba massacre. To date, justice has not been served, and individuals such as Agathon Rwasa, who claimed responsibility for this atrocity, continue to enjoy protection from the Burundian government. @UN @UNHumanRights @UNHCRUK @IsokoUSA @KagutaMuseveni @WilliamsRuto @PaulKagame @jumuiya @SuluhuSamia @LawrenceKanyuka @PatrickMuyaya @bbisimwa @hrw @PatrickMuyaya @FelixUdps @US_Emb_Burundi @Presidence_RDC @FARDC_Info @amnesty @WairimuANderitu @USAmbDRC @Allemagne_RDC @BelgiumMFA @UN_BintouKeita @jumuiya @GeneralNeva @EU_Commission @AUC_MoussaFaki @UNOCHA_DRC @unjhro @_AfricanUnion @MONUSCO @genocide_watch @bbcgahuza @VOAAfrica @radiookapi @Katsuva_R @StanysBujakera @wembi_steve @fidele_sebahizi @MaishaRdc @AlexMvuka @Fkaniki @AKibasumba @kivuutile @AlexMvuka
