@BrankoMilan It doesn't take much donation or spending to influence stuff. Very little in fact. They can fail and try again. So much money. You only need one billionaire to stuff it up for everyone. Trying to police who is good or bad billionaire is futile and a misunderstanding of wealth.

@Robkhouri @DerekFranc90653 Yeah. If you are kiwi on scv you're in a sweet spot. If not for pauline Hanson getting a citizenship isnt that beneficial. But these residency changes may remove those benefits and make it even more punitive.

@Outdoors199 @DerekFranc90653 The government has indicated that some detailed interactions involving changes in residency & foreign residents still to be addressed. Residency is different to citizenship. Don't think they'd have a problem, but who knows with this nightmare?

This is a terrible impediment to growth, skill upgrades, information exchanges etc. Young people working overseas is one of the best ways they learn, get skill upgrades, enjoy themselves, become better people. Now they're taxed to the hilt doing it! x.com/GeoffWilsonWAM…

Another nasty #CGT surprise from @AlboMP & @JEChalmers Budget: Young Aussies doing the classic overseas stint, London, NYC, wherever now will lose the #CGT discount/indexation on their investments if they relinquish tax residency. This is straight-up taxing young Australians rite of passage. Punishing ambition and global experience. This insane #CGT must be stopped. We must Win the War on aspiration and stop the #CGT Link: afr.com/wealth/persona…

Given the recent algo changes, I’m going to release a new version of @darkfolioapp, my privacy-first portfolio tracker. It didn’t make sense to tweet about it anymore - I got punished for it. If you’d like a subscription, dm or leave a comment here and I’ll provide you a code for a free lifetime subscription. Every user verifiably downloads every price from my server, not just the prices a user cares about. I don’t and can’t track you. User info is encrypted and local and the app also has two vaults by default. And the user can use one or the other for a decoy. Which vault is real or decoy depends on user intention, in your mind. getdarkfolio.app

VLAD HOSTS THE BEST PODCAST IN BITCOIN
Since last year, I’ve been saying on my podcast that Ocean has a mining pool, a separate node client, and a different development agenda Which appears to be a hard fork in the making to push their own “pure” coin Been called a dumb shitcoiner who doesn’t understand Luke’s game and Nakamoto consensus But I was so right 🤷🏻‍♂️

"This is not some minor point. The claim that wealth inequality is exploding is the central premise of Gary Stevenson’s entire economic theory, &, by extension, of this documentary. Take that away, and there is nothing left" --@K_Niemietz for @Quillette quillette.com/2026/07/14/gar…

@DerekFranc90653 I’d love the statistics on NZ residents who own investment properties in Australia. A rude awakening for them!

Years of campaign-finance reforms curbed the power that the Republican and Democratic Parties have in elections, which has undermined the quality of candidates. A Supreme Court ruling on party spending offers new hope, @DavidFrum argues. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/07/…

@jonobri @yimbymelbourne Like what does relaxing the zoning would do? Like are there thousands of homes zoned in a lot of outer suburbs? If you take Melbourne, lots of new build suburbs going on in North and western suburbs.

More than *three quarters* of all residential land across Australian capital cities is highly restricted. Today we @yimbymelbourne launch the Australian Zoning Atlas: the first nation-wide analysis of land use planning controls.

@AsteadWH @EmmaVigeland That wasn't a great interview. If you're prepared to overlook personal character/view over policy platform you shd hv no problem with Fetterman who ultimately showed his true personal colours. There needs to be some coherence bw person and policy.

@cmkusher Most of these proposals reduce demand. They deny housing to people happy to pay the cost of supply, reducing welfare. Increasing supply is better. Though that does not require budget-busting subsidies, which are not available. It just requires government to get out of the way.

📣 If government's were really serious about making housing more affordable there is so much more they could be doing than they are. The fact they don't take these steps tells you all you need to know about how serious they are about making housing more affordable. I don’t want to be accused of giving governments ideas of how to tank the housing market but here’s what I think could be implemented to reduce housing costs. Some of these levers are starting to be pulled, but I am confident many of them won’t be utilised by governments. If they were serious about lowering housing prices and keeping them lower they would consider more of these. - CGT on the principal place of residence - Remove stamp duty and introduce land taxes - Increase the mortgage serviceability buffer - Limit the availability of high LVR loans - Limit the availability of high DTI loans (they have done some of this) - Limit the availability of high LTI loans - Limit or remove the availability of interest-only mortgages (they have done limits in the past) - Undertake a significant and ongoing government housing program (it worked post WWII) - Invest significantly in enabling infrastructure for housing and remove zoning restriction where there is sufficient infrastructure (there is some action here but much more is needed) - Review and relax heritage restrictions ozpropertyinsights.substack.com/p/if-governmen…
