Bengaluru: IISc study finds Namma Metro’s 33-km Blue Line can run entirely on solar power using only BMRCL-owned land & infrastructure. Conducted with BMRCL & supported by HSBC CSR, the study estimates 83.3 MWp solar capacity can meet the corridor’s full annual energy demand. A 30 MWp rooftop phase alone could save Rs 136 crore annually, while expanded deployment may cut up to 77,900 tonnes of CO₂ every year @OfficialBMRCL @iiscbangalore

Even a massive garbage dump can be easily cleared. All it takes is a few concerned citizens to join hands. Government participation is highly desirable and invited but ultimately optional. The city belongs to its citizens, not merely to the government. We have a right to a clean environment. We have a duty to work towards it.

The first and best step towards ‘Good Governance’ in India, is to solve the grievances of the public in a systematic & professional manner, starting from receiving the grievances properly and responding to it. This process itself will straighten out the distortions in the system and make it much better. This has been my experience in the last 27 years in the government. So metro along SH35! It’s been an ask of Varthur residents given the population explosion in the area. Also edit: it should connect to Hopefarm? And not Kadugodi Tree Park.

The landing point for an elevated road should be chosen such that there is long stretch of free movement after that point. We build elevated roads that land at signals, and then we are surprised that they are choking up the road on descent. BMLTA should be strengthened and allowed to do its job as a proper planner of mobility. The combo on Metro, GBA and others winging it is not working, because they don't have the necessary expertise.

BBCL’s tender for Package-1 of PRR-1 is for about ₹3,100 crore plus ₹248 crore towards 10 years of O&M. Comparisons with the 2023-24 estimate must recognise that this is not merely inflation. The new design is significantly larger and more future-ready. The corridor has been widened from 50 m to 65 m, with service roads on both sides instead of one. It now includes 4 service lanes, bicycle tracks, wide footpaths and a reserved corridor for future Metro. The earlier estimate provided cloverleaf interchanges only at Madavara, Ballari Road, Old Madras Road and Hosur Road. The revised design now adds major interchanges at Doddaballapur Road, Hennur Road, Whitefield and Sarjapur Road. There are also new grade separators at Hesaraghatta Road and Channasandra, longer elevated stretches through Avalahalli forest and IVRI campus, and a new 3 km Hosur Road flyover from Huskur to Electronic City. Even the Madavara interchange has become more complex to ensure seamless integration with NICE Road. The cost increase reflects a bigger, more integrated and more future-proof Bengaluru ring road project.

Bengaluru is (I think) the largest city in the world that abuts a forest with wildlife - Bannerghatta connects to the North Cauvery reserve and from there to large swathes of the southern ghats. If we can live next door to the wildlife and also pay attention to their habitat, that's something to celebrate.

Varthur lake once filled with Froth and weed. Now turned into one of the biggest and best lakes of Bengaluru. BDA has completed Rejuvenation work and will hand over the Lake to East corporation soon. Post that we can expect some development around the lake for walk path and open gym etc.
