Amnesty International notes and strongly condemns the abduction of Delan Cole, a Zimbabwe National Students Union student leader at Chinhoyi University, yesterday. He was reportedly taken from a lecture theatre while attending a meeting on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, where he was speaking against the Bill on 21 March 2025. This latest abduction threatens not just freedoms of assembly, expression, and association, but also the rights to education, non-discrimination, academic freedom, and participation in university public life. On 10 November 2025, two other students from the same institution, 23-year-old Marlvin Madanda and 21-year-old Lindon Zanga, were allegedly abducted and were found the next day, reportedly dumped, beaten, and injured. We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate this latest abduction and ensure that students can exercise their freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and organize without fear of reprisals, intimidation, or torture.

Amnesty International strongly condemns the arbitrary arrest and detention of Constitution Defenders Forum (CDF) convener Tendai Biti, its programs director Morgan Ncube, journalist Fanuel Chinowaita, and lawyer Nyasha Gerald Mukonyora in Mutare yesterday. Of the four, Nyasha Gerald Mukonyora and Fanuel Chinowaita were released without charge after being detained for several hours, while Tendai Biti and Morgan Ncube were charged with contravening the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act by failing to notify the police of a public meeting and are expected to appear in court for their initial hearing on Monday, 23 March 2026. We demand the immediate release of Tendai Biti and Morgan Ncube, who were peacefully exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights. Authorities must respect, protect, and guarantee the freedom of assembly, expression, and association.

Opposition parties and civic groups are criminalised for engaging in door-to-door mobilisation, while ZANU-PF operates freely—conducting mass campaigns without police interference. This unequal application of the law exposes a deeply entrenched system of political bias and repression. We are not only fighting to stop the 2030 agenda and the mutilation of our Constitution—we are demanding a complete transformation of Zimbabwe’s political system. This includes the removal of Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and ZANU-PF, and the establishment of a democratic framework that embraces broad, diverse, and inclusive political participation. Real reform must go beyond leadership change. It must include: Overhauling police recruitment and appointment systems to ensure professionalism and political neutrality. Reforming the military to uphold constitutionalism rather than partisan interests. Restoring independence and integrity within the judiciary. Transforming state institutions that have become vehicles for corruption and nepotism. Zimbabwe needs a new political order—one rooted in accountability, fairness, and equal rights for all citizens.
