Afghan UNHCR refugees in #Kyrgyzstan. Excluded. Forgotten. We ask for resettlement and equal protection.

⚠️ 115 PEOPLE SHOULD NOT REMAIN STUCK IN LEGAL LIMBO FOR A QUARTER OF A CENTURY. We are Afghan mandate refugees in #Kyrgyzstan. Recognized by UNHCR. But still left without real legal recognition or a durable future. More than 25 years have passed. An entire generation grew up inside uncertainty that was never meant to last this long. Young people who should have been building careers, contributing to society, creating businesses, studying, innovating, and raising families in safety are still trapped between temporary documents and endless waiting. Refugee protection was never supposed to become a permanent pause on human potential. We are a small group: only 115 people. Not a burden to the world. A solvable humanitarian case. Return to Afghanistan is not safe. Integration cannot succeed where legal recognition does not exist. 🕊️ And after all these years, resettlement remains the only realistic and humane solution. Because refugee status is not meant to be a fate. While the world speaks about inclusion, equality, and responsibility-sharing, 115 Afghan mandate refugees in #Kyrgyzstan still remain outside meaningful protection. We respectfully ask donor governments, humanitarian actors, and the international community not to allow this situation to disappear behind statistics, conferences, and reports. Behind these numbers are real human lives, futures, and an entire generation still waiting for a durable solution. @Refugees @UNHCR_Cent_Asia @UNHCRgov @UNRefugeeAgency @UNGeneva @UN_News_Centre @UNHumanRights @StatePRM @StateDept @CanadaDev @IRCC @UNHCRCanada @CanadaFP @CanadaPE @CanadainCA @ausgov @dfat @BelgiumUN @UKMissionGeneva @UNMigration @IOMchief @10DowningStreet @UKHomeOffice @DavidLammy @ShabanaMahmood @LenaMetlegeDiab @antonioguterres @AntjeGrawe @BarhamSalih #Geneva #Geneva2025 #EqualProtectionForAll #ResettleMandateRefugeesFromKyrgyzstan #Kyrgyzstan #Refugees #HumanRights #Afghanistan

🔴 115 PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE INVISIBLE TO THE WORLD. More than a quarter of a century has passed — yet 115 Afghan mandate refugees in #Kyrgyzstan are still waiting for a real solution. Recognized by UNHCR. Ignored by the system around us. We are not asking for luxury. We are asking for what refugee protection was always supposed to mean: • legal safety • stability • dignity • a future for our children Instead, we remain trapped in a legal limbo where even basic certainty about tomorrow does not exist. While international conferences discuss inclusion and responsibility-sharing, our lives remain frozen between paperwork and silence. A refugee mandate without resolution becomes something dangerous: a permanent suspension of normal life. An entire generation has already grown up inside this uncertainty. Young people who should have been building careers, families, and futures are still waiting for answers after decades in exile. And the most painful question remains: If even a small group of 115 recognized refugees cannot receive a durable solution after 25+ years — what message does that send about the global protection system itself? Integration cannot work where legal recognition does not exist. Return to Afghanistan is not safe. 🕊️ Resettlement remains the only realistic and humane solution. We respectfully ask donor governments, humanitarian actors, and the international community not to let this situation disappear behind statistics and reports. 115 people. A solvable humanitarian case. A test of whether protection still means something in practice. @Refugees @UNHCR_Cent_Asia @UNHCRgov @UNRefugeeAgency @UNGeneva @UN_News_Centre @UNHumanRights @StatePRM @StateDept @CanadaDev @IRCC @LenaMetlegeDiab @ausgov @dfat @BelgiumUN @UKMissionGeneva @UNinBrussels @UNMigration @IOMchief @10DowningStreet @UKHomeOffice @DavidLammy @ShabanaMahmood @UNHCRCanada @CanadaPE @CanadaFP @antonioguterres @BarhamSalih @AntjeGrawe #Kyrgyzstan #Geneva #Geneva2025 #EqualProtectionForAll #ResettleMandateRefugeesFromKyrgyzstan #Refugees #HumanRights #Afghanistan

⚠️ 115 Afghan mandate refugees. ⚠️ More than a quarter of a century in exile. ⚠️ Still no durable solution. We are officially under the responsibility of the international protection system. Recognized by #UNHCR as refugees in need of international protection. But in reality - where is that protection? #Kyrgyzstan does not recognize our legal status. So after more than 25 years in exile, we are still left with: ❌ no secure legal status ❌ no real protection ❌ no pathway to integration ❌ no durable solution ❌ no future after decades of waiting We are refugees on paper - but invisible in real life. International protection exists in reports and speeches. But in our daily lives, it barely exists at all. No transparency. No meaningful communication. No visible progress. No clear future. Sometimes it feels as if the international protection system has simply disappeared while 115 people continue surviving in permanent uncertainty. Refugee status is not meant to become a lifelong fate. Integration is impossible where legal recognition does not exist. Return to Afghanistan is not safe. 🕊️ Resettlement is the only humane and realistic solution. Only 115 people remain in this situation. A small humanitarian case. A solvable case. So why are we still forgotten after more than a quarter of a century? @Refugees @UNHCR_Cent_Asia @UNHCRgov @UNRefugeeAgency @UNGeneva @UN_News_Centre @UNHumanRights @StatePRM @StateDept @CanadaDev @IRCC @LenaMetlegeDiab @ausgov @dfat @BelgiumUN @UKMissionGeneva @UNinBrussels @UNMigration @IOMchief @10DowningStreet @UKHomeOffice @DavidLammy @ShabanaMahmood @UNHCRCanada @CanadaPE @CanadaFP @antonioguterres @BarhamSalih @AntjeGrawe #Kyrgyzstan #Geneva #Geneva2025 #EqualProtectionForAll #ResettleMandateRefugeesFromKyrgyzstan #Refugees #HumanRights #Afghanistan

Documentaries can spark dialogue & empathy across borders 📽️ UNHCR supported the premiere of the documentary “Unfulfilled Duty” in Almaty, highlighting the humanitarian support provided by Kazakhstan & its people to Afghans, including returnees. @UNHCRAfg @MFA_KZ
