The Betrayal of a Nation: Ethiopia’s Future Exchanged for Vanity and War When Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn’s government unveiled the ambitious Ethiopian Railway Network project nearly a decade ago, it was more than just steel tracks and locomotives—it was a promise. A promise to unite a divided nation, to fuel industrialization, and to ensure that no region was left behind in Ethiopia’s march toward progress. The vision was grand. Cities would be linked by rail, goods and people would move with unprecedented ease, and Ethiopia’s economy would surge forward. The first phase, the Addis Ababa–Djibouti route, was nothing short of revolutionary. What once took days of grueling travel was reduced to mere hours, transforming Ethiopia’s access to the sea and cementing its place as a logistical powerhouse in the region. But the real game-changer was yet to come. The second phase of the project was set to be historic. For the first time, northern Ethiopia—#Amhara, #Afar, and #Tigray—would be directly connected to the world’s markets. The railway was a long-overdue sign of hope, a long-awaited bridge to prosperity for regions that had been deliberately sidelined. The benefits were undeniable: Ethiopia, home to the third-largest potash reserves on the planet, was about to become a global powerhouse in fertilizer production, while meeting its dire domestic needs. With potash prices skyrocketing from $200 to $800 per ton, this railway wasn’t just infrastructure—it was an economic goldmine. The Europeans and Chinese saw it instantly. They lined up to finance the project, recognizing its immense economic and social value. The railway would link cities like Awash, Woldiya, Dessie, Kombolcha, Alamata, and Mekelle, igniting industrial hubs and bringing economic fairness to a nation too often ruled by selective development. The project launched with a $1.7 billion budget and was already 46% complete. Northern Ethiopia was on the brink of transformation. And then—the unthinkable happened. In a move that defies logic, common sense, or even the most basic grasp of economics, the PM along with a parade of corrupt officials—men who have sold their nation for their own tribalistic ambition and greed—ordered its abandonment. The PM personally canceled the project under the absurd claim that a $1.7 billion price tag was "unsustainable." Yet, almost in the same breath, he announced: A $5 billion palace for himself in #Oromia A $10 billion Sheger City—conveniently in #Oromia. A $7.8 billion airport—also in #Oromia. And as if that wasn’t enough of disparity, he tripled military spending and launched a devastating war on the #Amhara region under the guise of “disarming the youth, FANO” a war of choice, not necessarily a war of necessity. It cost the nation $7 billion last year alone. This year, it is expected to double to a staggering $14 billion, an amount that is equivalent to the entire national budget for the year, requiring the nation's investment in education and health to be slashed by 50%. Every Ethiopian must recognize this tragedy of astronomical proportions. The sheer scale of injustice and waste is beyond comprehension. A project that could have built Ethiopia’s future was abandoned, while billions were funneled into vanity projects and war. Infrastructure that would have uplifted millions was scrapped, while bloodshed and destruction were prioritized instead. One day, the day of judgment will come. And when it does, there will be no doubt or confusion about who is responsible for this historic betrayal. The names are known. The crimes are clear. And history will remember not just the destroyers, but those who stood silent as Ethiopia was burned to the ground from within. Written By T. G May your day be free of betrayal and incompetence—unlike Ethiopia’s fate under @AbiyAhmedAli the curse of #Ethiopia and his killing machine! #WaronAmhara if we fail to see why he keeps N. #Ethiopia in crisis then we’re still not fully awake.

Genocide Prevention In Ethiopia
A call to save lives of Amhara detainees that are tortured and denied medical treatment by the regime in Ethiopia CALL – TO – ACTION GPE asserts that the continuous blow the regime is facing from the Amhara resistance in general and Fanos (an Amhara armed resistance that was born out of resisting the genocide against Amharas in Ethiopia) in particular, has frustrated the regime to the point of panic where they may be forced to release hundreds of thousands of ethnic Amharas they targeted and detained across the three types of establishments described above. The regime understands the mistreatments, conditions and the cruelty detainees faced is evidence towards the genocide it is conducting against Amharas. Quite recently, the regime has started directly assassinating successful Amhara businessmen, artists and persons of notable achievement without even bothering to detain them or abducting them. Together with the strategic and design-based elimination of key detainees these new strings of assassination of Amharas is an indication of yet a new level of severe targeting Amharas are facing by the regime in Ethiopia. The international community needs to truly act as quick as possible to save the lives of these targeted Amharas. The kill-off plan is underway as the regime is acting in a mindset of destroying evidence, therefore unless urgent and decisive pressure is applied on the rogue and genocidal government in Ethiopia a disaster the international community vowed not to witness with the ‘Never Again’ motto will realize in Ethiopia all over again. Specific recommendations for immediate action 1. Immediate intervention to get Hon. Christian Tadele and Hon. Yohannes Boyalew released so that they get the urgent medical care they need to save their lives. 2. Immediate call to get all Amhara abductees, detainees and prisoners who are targeted just for their identity to be released unconditionally. 3. Immediate call to get all Abductees, detainees and prisoners who are targeted either because they tried to expose the genocide against Amharas or because they tried to oppose all the genocidal and tyrannical actions of the regime in Ethiopia. Recommendations to avert the impending State-led crises in Ethiopia 4. Recognize that an active coordinated and planned targeting is ongoing against Amharas in Ethiopia. This will pave the way so the international community can investigate about the active genocide against Amharas, which we at the GPE already determined to be under way based on the extensive data, evidence and testimony we gathered over the past 5 years. 5. Put direct political pressure on the regime to stop the currently ongoing war on Amhara. Primarily: 5.1 Targeted sanctions against all the major political leaders of the regime in Ethiopia including barring them from travel and freezing their financial assets oversees. 5.2 Targeted sanctions against all military officials that are involved with war crimes, genocidal attacks and performed large scale illegal profiling, abduction and detention of ethnic Amharas and others solely based on their identity. 5.3 Put political pressure on nations including The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, China, and Turkey that are providing armed drones which are being used against civilian targets to the regime in Ethiopia, so they cease to provide deadly support to the ongoing genocide in Ethiopia. Note: Amhara detainees- throughout the report the term “detainees” refer to those that are detained either: 1. with no due process of law and are abducted and held just for their identity, 2. or those held with trumped up charges, 3. or those who are undergoing a seemingly legal process, when in reality their case is being sabotaged by the regime’s influence on the legal system. This includes the court presenting paid off and scripted witnesses against the ethnically targeted detainees. One thing we can be sure of is the so called “ government ”, the likes of @addisstandard , the church nor any voices will come out and accuse #OLATerrorist aka the Oromo PP government of this constant massacres of #AmharaGenocide in every corner of #Oromia region. They will of course will say unknown forces did this and move it along while they were quick to lie and propagate to taint the image of #AmharaResistance #Fanocourage with unconfirmed accusations when they needed to mobilize and fuel more hate for #Amharas. This is what @AbiyAhmedAli @ShimelisAbdisa wanted with their hate rethoeic for #Amharas! #Protectthepeople We keep documenting the silent massacre of innocent #Amharas while the world is choosing to ignore truth. @SenMarcoRubio @SenateForeign @AU_WGYD @indefchristians @RealCandaceO @RepJames @RepMTG @SenateGOP @UN_HRC @LemkinInstitute @UNOSAPG @cnni @Joe__Bassey @zoomafrika1 @AfrikParliament @african_stream @AmnestyEARO @AmnestyEARO @achpr_cadhp @newhumanitarian

#RememberingMaikadraYear4 Justice is yet to prevail for almost 1600 Amhara people who were savagely executed on Nov 9th and Nov 10th 2020 by the Samri Militia under the TPLF. While evidence of the killings is astounding with names and registers of each victim documented, and their identities verified by local authorities and hundreds of recorded testimony by survivors of the atrocities, the global media not only kept silent but to add salt to the wound, their pain, and loss and trauma was misreported as an attack against Tigrayan victims by Amnesty, HRW, mainstream media outlets and various advocacy groups. So 4 years later, still in the war torn Northern region of Ethiopia, the people of Maikadra still remain in perilous conditions, with much uncertainty about their future under the Abiy Regime, and the threat of falling under the control of the same party that attempted to wipe them out. I cannot imagine living in the conditions they are forced to endure, with the majority of survivors being women and children, with no means and in constant need of aid. There has been no significant effort for rehabilitation outside of a few NGOs who have infrequently provided medical assistance and food supplies. But even these minimal provisions were reduced and at times completely removed due to the ongoing war between the federal government and the resistance in the Amhara region. So we continue to advocate for their safety, proper care, real rehabilitation, genuine support and of course Justice. Justice for the victims and survivors, accountability from the perpetrators and all the collaborators that participated in one of the worst massacres of civilians ever recorded in the history of Ethiopia. An attack of 1400 Israelis on Oct 7th 2023, caused global outrage, a horrific reprisal that created a 21st century crisis that is still the most talked about, debated and relevant issues around the world today. But the devastation of these other victims with even more casualties is not on any one’s radar. There was no global shock response, no follow up or documentation from international media, no real interest to investigate and report on the tragedy that is still a huge scar in the lives of those immediately affected, the conscience of the Amhara people and Ethiopians at large. Genocide is a taboo word that causes so much controversy and political division, questions and antagonism. It’s uncomfortable and the tendency from many international human rights agencies and governments is still avoidance. Thousands of Amharas have been killed through similar attacks in Wollega, and many more as victims of the war on Amhara, so the pain hasn’t stopped. It barely makes the news. The message the mainstream media and many ICs are clearly giving to the advocates for justice and the protection of these people is that it’s just not relevant or newsworthy. So it’s upon everyone who is knowledgeable of this horrible time in history to continue advocating and reporting on the incidents that transpired on Nov 9th and 10th in Maikadra. We honor the victims and their families as we have done the past 4 years, we pray for peace to prevail and sanity to be restored for the Amhara people, for all of Ethiopia and all those suffering around the world. #StopAmharaGenocide #StopGenocide #protectthepeople #Ethiopia #MaiKadraMassacre #Remembering MaikadraYear4 @JemalCountess @Tsedeniya11 @MaedotmEthiopia @HFano4life @ASN_Amhara @AmharaHQ @neby_G @NegedeYehuda @mgdawint @fishlion_44 @HOAAffairs @boozion @iyuye @amorawwub @african_stream @1ethiopia_ @Newzroom405 @BTnewsroom @Chronicles2023 @AfricaEAR @AmnestyEARO @jeffpropulsion

Please continue to pray and pursue justice for the victims and survivors of the atrocities committed in Mai Kadra and Humera. HUMERA, ETHIOPIA - MARCH 05, 2021: Ato Amare, 27, of Humera, holds a picture of his father, Amare Tiruneh who was killed during the November 2020 attacks at Humera and Mai Kadra on March 5, 2021 in Humera, Ethiopia. Amare Tiruneh was a wealthy, respected and much-loved businessman of Amhara descent, born in Humera several kilometers from Mai Kadra, both of which are part of the Welkait region. During the November 2020 attacks, Amare Tiruneh and his son-in-law Melkama Yehu Kassa were taken from Amare's home, driven 35 kilometers away from Humera to a place called Idris, and executed. Amare was a farmer and an Amhara native of Welkait. Over his life time Amare was imprisoned several times because of his identity as an ethnic Amhara. His son states: "Local Tigrayan officials always asked him why he spoke Amharic and listened to Amharic music. Seeing the animosity the Tigrayans had towards him, his friends asked why didn't he leave and go to Gonder, to which he replied 'Humera is my home, I was born here and I wont go away.'" According to interviews conducted in recent days with several dozen victims, witnesses and local officials, around 1,300 (now 1,600) ethnic Amharas were killed during a series of attacks by the Samri TPLF (Tigray People’s Liberation Front) Youth Group, TPLF militia and local Tigrayan police, from November 6 to November 10, 2020. The violence occurred during a wider conflict between the Ethiopian government and the TPLF that ignited on November 4, 2020, when forces aligned with the TPLF attacked the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) Northern Command headquarters in Mekelle, the capital city of the Tigray region and 4 other ENDF military bases. It’s heartbreaking and alarming to witness the tragic displacement of so many people in Addis Ababa, refugees in the very city they and their ancestors built. Women, children, and elders are thrown into the streets, cast aside in their own land, while the international community, embassies, and diplomats stationed in Addis remain silent. This is the brutal reality of the violence and abuse being carried out under the pretext of “corridor development” an apartheid-like system that has taken hold in Ethiopia, systematically displacing Ethiopians from their homes. @AbiyAhmedAli’s fascist regime, under the guise of "Prosperity," works tirelessly to destroy Ethiopia and its people. We cannot let history repeat itself. The world was too late to stop the Rwandan Genocide and the Holocaust. How many times do we have to cry out and plead for intervention? The world cannot say they didn’t know afterward. We are telling you now, as our people are displaced, destroyed, and genocided right in front of your eyes. We call on @UNHumanRights, @EU_Commission, @StateDept, @UNICEF, @UNReliefChief, @hrw, @amnesty, @USEmbassyAddis, @EUinEthiopia, and @WFP to take immediate action. The atrocities unfolding in Ethiopia cannot be ignored any longer, families are being uprooted, and lives are destroyed. This is a humanitarian crisis, and we need global intervention now. Ethiopia’s future is at stake! The world must respond before it's too late! #Ethiopia #AddisAbaba #AmharaGenocide

Another horrific tragedy involving the kidnapping and murder of an innocent child took place in Gonder City today Sep 1st 2024. Two year old Nolawit Zegeyew was killed by kidnappers despite her father and the community managing to scrap together the 300,000 birr for the ransom and making desperate attempts to get her back. The authorities provided little or no assistance to the desperate father, Zegeyew Wende who is a long time employee of the city’s public bus company and a career driver. With the helps of friends and many of his coworkers, Zegeyew went to every person he knew and asked for help to collect the money over the past few days since his 2 year old daughter was abducted out of their home at 10am on August 30th. After reporting to the local police, he was dismissed and told to ask FANO for help by the authorities who refused to help him. Dismayed at this response he used his resources and begged individuals at the Telecommunications Co. to assist in investigating the location of the kidnappers who had made contact with him using the same mobile phone. He was sent away again and left to manage this horrible crisis on his own with the help of fellow civilians. After being asked to drop the ransom money at a remote location just outside the city limits at an area called Selassie Angereb Zuria, he followed instructions and did as asked and patiently waited for his daughter to be returned. But in what turned out to be a most tragic and devastating day, Zegeyew received a call informing him that his daughter was placed just outside his home around 5pm on Sep 1st, where he found her lifeless body thrown behind some bushes. The community led by a grieving father holding the dead body of his precious daughter marched around the city square in tears, while women and men alike were heard screaming and crying for some time. But during this time of mourning, armed men arrived at the scene and fired relentlessly at the civilians to disperse the crowd, killing and wounding several people in the process. Immediately following this incident, some individuals close to the victims family were told that the local authorities in the police department have announced that any of the people who have assisted Zegeyew and his wife Hanna to collect the ransom money over the last few days are to be arrested in connection to inciting a riot. Nolawit Zegeyew is due to be buried on Sept 2nd 2024 in Gonder City. #Gondercity #Nolawit #Kidnapping #Amhara #Ethiopia #ProtectThePeople
