To think that such a devastating complication developed from what began as a simple dislocated elbow is the most painful case I encountered today.
A 10-year-old girl sustained a fall at school and dislocated her elbow. She was taken to a traditional bone setter who applied a corrosive concoction and tightly bandaged the limb, severely constricting blood flow to the extremity. The resulting impairment of circulation and tissue perfusion led to necrosis, complicated by severe infection and sepsis. She is now battling septicaemia and risks losing her left hand if urgent, appropriate medical care is not sustained.
This is why healthcare professionals continuously advise the public: always seek treatment at a qualified health facility closest to you. Avoid untrained practitioners — delayed and harmful interventions can turn treatable injuries into life-threatening conditions.
