The Block Appoints Steve Chung as CEO, Secures $10M Investment Crypto media outlet The Block has appointed veteran media and tech executive Steve Chung as CEO, succeeding Larry Cermak, who will remain President overseeing research and product. Chung previously held senior roles at Goldman Sachs, Fox, and NFT project Azuki. This is one of the best breakdowns I've read on the agentic commerce stack! The two-layer framework, commercial orchestration (how transactions start) and settlement (how money moves), is exactly the right way to think about what's being built right now. The report touches on trust and the cold start problem in the A2A section, but I think this is where the conversation needs to go deeper. When an agent overspends, who's liable? When a merchant's agent misrepresents a product to your agent, what's the dispute path? What if the evaluator is wrong? Is the merchant held legally responsible for agent hallucinations? Most agent vendors today disclaim responsibility and even seek indemnifications from users. With card payment rails, chargebacks give some recourse. Stablecoins rails have nothing at the moment. And regulation-wise, we are years behind where the technology is actually at. This is likely going to be the bottleneck for agentic commerce adoption -- but it'd be interesting to see who solves it first.

Our payment rails were built for humans who click buttons, but AI needs to settle trades in milliseconds for tiny amounts. This makes stablecoins the only viable rails for this scale.
