@CryptoKolumbus @SOPHONTSIMP I guess it depends on what character means. You could create a magic wand that can do whatever you want but I feel like to be a "character" it has to be a person/being

@CryptoKolumbus @SOPHONTSIMP I'm curious if you could "ethically" create a character to serve you while not making them essentially your slave. Even if you designed them to be happy to serve you or whatever, still seems a bit wrong. Would you have to give them "free will" ?

100% unironically, street dance videos like this represent the pinnacle of human culture: the celebration of both collective coordination and individual expression (turn on sound) Most cultures will only do one or the other, setting up a false dichotomy between the two

@SOPHONTSIMP My reason is children are awesome and taking care of them is fulfilling. I used to say I'd never want kids but that's changed over the past few years, don't know if there's any deeper reason besides maybe a biological drive. Possibly cuz my life overall got more stable? Not sure

I think we should do everything we can to make having children easier/less of an opportunity cost, and to invest heavily in longevity and automation to ameliorate the negative effects of demographic decline. Children are our future, at least until technology opens new opportunities. I would accept higher taxes on myself towards these ends, at least when I do get a job. With that said, I have to be honest and say I have a hard time understanding why someone, on a personal level, would seek to have children, and i especially have a hard time understanding why many men seem obsessed with the idea to the extent they are. It’s a long, irreversible undertaking that forecloses many opportunities and freedom, all saddled with a huge amount of moral responsibility. It’s necessary for our society, yes, but typically when someone says they want children they don’t frame it as a duty to society, which is kind of a dreadful framing if we’re being honest, i wouldn’t trust a parent whose sole reason for having kids was that, which is part of why i don’t want them, or at least that’s how I feel now. Maybe my feelings will change in the future.

ive seen a lot of arguing about what's right and i don't really care but could you IMAGINE what this situation would create in real life? If you thought our modern political landscape you haven't seen anything yet, ppl's lives would be hurt by this somehow even if nobody dies
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@EnlightenmentA6 @visakanv I've found my people. For me, punctuation isn't for grammar but organizing thoughts. A sentence is one complete thought or idea, commas (usually) separate connected ideas into smaller sections, and parenthesis are used for clarifying or adding additional information Example:

@visakanv I've always felt the parenthesis is underused. I thought this even before I had spent much time programming. People are far too tight with their use of commas also, just go ahead and put them pretty much everywhere you might pause in speech. It's not like anything bad will happen

If LLMs killed the em-dash (I personally think it's fine to use them, it's really *how* you use it that matters, but I also get that people flinch from the increased scrutiny), I think that sets up a renaissance for parentheses

@dieggsc52 @Enderdragonbunn @ArkhamMoon @H0GPO @SOPHONTSIMP Like even in the first episode when Omni man kills the Gaurdians of the Globe, there's no reason for Red Rush to have gone on the offensive. Or how the Viltrumites keep throwing punches even tho the hand slash is way more effective. Mark doing a front choke instead of rear naked

@dieggsc52 @Enderdragonbunn @ArkhamMoon @H0GPO @SOPHONTSIMP I think Kirkman isn't very knowledgeable about strategy or even basic fighting techniques. You kinda just have to suspend your disbelief around martial arts and team synergy cuz it's pretty clear Kirkman isn't thinking about it. The powerscaling isn't that bad tho, imo

Invincible in the main universe is maybe evenly matched against weaker Viltrumites, the other invincibles were noted to be weaker than him, so it makes sense that tech jacket would be able to defeat a mark variant without being able to defeat an actual Viltrumite. Worth also noting that several Mark Variants were bodied by Reanimen.

When I was in college, we played a lot of chess variants, including ancient ones. One of the earliest forms of chess was actually 4 player! Not only that, it was a gambling game. You rolled a 4-sided die to determine which piece you could move (a "4" moved either a pawn or the king). You earned money based on how you captured the enemy king (there was no checkmate). The biggest reward (8x) was if your king captured the enemy king on his home square. The "ship" is a rook. The "elephant" is a terrible piece. It jumps like a knight, but exactly two squares diagonally, which means it can only attack about an eighth of the squares on the board. It sucked. We played it both the gambling method (for nickels) and the "regular" way where you didn't have to roll the die. I'm glad it didn't catch on.

@sighswoon Yeah celeb culture feels way less real these days (I'm still youngish so just going off what other ppl say it used to be like), there's only 1 "celebrity" I'd still wanna meet but when I was younger it was way more. Idk if there could ever be another MJ level celebrity

What I love about this experience is I legitimately had no clue who he was. And why would I - I’m 31 and he’s 21, completely different industries and generations. After this post, on both IG and X , I have random fans and haters so emotional about this interaction, as he symbolizes something to people, and the people happen to be *very young*. I still have no idea about anything about him, other than that walking into a livestream and having it be a real ass Gen Z one was lowkey a chance win and perfect Coachella memory. In real time, it felt like the high school quad, sitting in the grass, talking to a random guy on a mission. And that’s what all of this is. That’s what it always is. A big quad of people at various degrees of fame and prevalence, just interfacing. Hype that, hype this. He said this, he said that. It doesn’t matter. It’s all a big video game that ends as soon as it starts. I love it all

@imsosickof_____ @Dansplainer that second one is amazing. i love how he seems to encounter these questions through some sort of internal logic system, and then poses them to the public to see if his conclusions are acceptable instead of just doing what he thinks he should do
