@jeffreyb I know that this is a tough situation for inner-city libraries, and they're trying to adapt. But most libraries out there are serving small communities, and they need lots of support and patronage.

The library is where you go to find the best and most timeless books ever written, all carefully curated for you. Beyond that, libraries serve as study spaces, hold cultural events, provide local authors with visibility, run book/chess/trivia clubs, and offer endless free resources to the community.

I don't think we have good data for 12th, in any state.

oh wow, sounds bad. the good news is that this is definitely an isolated problem confined to only DC and there is definitely no pressure to game crime statistics in other US cities so the broader decline in crime is definitely real, 100% for sure
