🚨The Massachusetts Department of Corrections is HIDING a violent male inmate they have housed in a women’s prison. Three months ago, Reduxx became aware of a violent male inmate being housed in Massachusetts' only women's prison. In an effort to shine light on this case, we reached out the state's Department of Corrections to obtain basic, non-confidential information associated with the inmate. The Department of Corrections refused to provide the information, claiming that even a standard inmate file photo was a violation of the inmate's privacy. Corresponding with Reduxx, a Department official argued that "photographs of a transgender individual contain intimate details of a highly personal nature, the disclosure of which may constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy." We then filed an appeal with state authorities. On April 2, the Massachusetts Supervisor of Records determined that our request was lawful and that the information was in the public domain. The Department of Corrections refused once again. On May 1, the Supervisor of Records rejected the Department's arguments, and ORDERED the Department to provide us with the information we had requested by May 15. The Department of Corrections has repeatedly refused to comply with the order and has now gone radio silent. Reduxx is an independent news source focused on exposing the impact of gender ideology on women and children. Our organizer is in @AOC’s district, and she won’t take a meeting with us. She knows. She knows she’s failing all women. She knows this is a losing issue and that the manipulative, twisting messaging isn’t working. She runs scared from her lesbian constituents because she can’t face what she did to roll back women’s and LGB rights. She has no interest in standing up for the marginalized and vulnerable, just whatever gets her clout. She doesn’t care. She doesn’t have a shred of empathy for the women imprisoned in Rikers beaten by the same men she threw them under the bus to champion, or the lesbians who have seen their spaces destroyed or pushed back underground as straight men in dress-up colonize them. In front of her office is a huge flag signaling her ongoing failure to acknowledge reality. Too bad for her, the lie won’t last forever.

New York needs to take notice. We’ve been documenting human rights abuses against women in the Rose M. Singer Center. We tried getting representatives to meet with us during @WomensLibFront’s trip to DC, but no one said yes. Maybe if they listened to the women who were well-versed on this issue, they could do a bit better than the inevitable messaging explaining that it’s okay for some women to be attacked or raped by men and prison as long as we can keep pretending single-sex spaces don’t matter. We have the polling and the fact sheets. Ah well.

I can't stop thinking about this. No one should have to go through this violence. No human should give birth in handcuffs. This woman never should have been arrested and arraigned, period. It's shameful, and it reflects on our criminal legal system as a whole.

Today is 26 years since I first got ill at 12 years old. I went from being a very active child to someone who was physically unable to do anything except stare at the closed back of my own eyelids and alternately suffer and dream. I thought this anniversary wouldn't matter much to me because I have more life now than ive had since I was about 14. But it turns out that that makes it matter even more. It makes it feel like an achievement to look back on all the hills and valleys and, frankly, caverns of all this time and still be here!!!! Even if the terrain ahead is covered in mist. My life is still so much stranger, and more eccentric than most people's lives but it has more room for my living in it again And I feel really lucky for that For the last eight months I have had hugs again. There was a time I was going years between hugs. For the last fifteen months ive spent time with people I care about face to face again. I've sat at someone else's dinner table and eaten homemade pizza, ive gone out for drives. I've had whole days with someone very dear to me. Ive stood beneath the arches of trees and breathed in what they've given. Ive seen bluebells in a hidden wood. Ive met so many interesting strangers in passing too Including a particularly friendly Schnauzer yesterday called Monty who climbed me gently with his front paws to sniff my face and say hello. And I have two cats who RUN down the garden when they see me and who rely on me to love them. Some of these things have been sporadic over the years but now they also tend to come with less pain when they visit. Which is the biggest gift of all. I'm really grateful for all the little miracles that come to see me and I still rather hope and wish for more. And if youve read this, I wish you miracles of all sizes too We all have our troubles and we are all doing our best with them after all ❤️

But today I am paying for it with knee pain and lower back pain because I, like many other people, have disc issues. This week will be long. No, biking is not practical for most.

I’ve went back to read this news release about 6x to grasp what it all means. I’m really quite amazed! In 2019 a grassroots, non-partisan, single-issue group of women in 🇨🇦 got together, mostly virtually, and created @cawsbar, to repeal Bill C16. 7 years later, we’ve won the right in federal court to challenge the Gov’t of Canada on their policy of housing incarcerated women with men. I’m so proud and honoured to be part of a group of dedicated and determined volunteer women who’ve done something quite extraordinary while working full-time jobs, caring for family, and having professional hearings to endure, all while trying to grow an organization that believes, as we all obviously should, that women deserve our sex-based rights to safety, privacy & dignity.
