The Pakistani government is attempting to intimidate Waqas' family in anger over @DropSiteNews reporting on elite corruption in the country. If anything else happens it will be clear who will be personally held responsible.
Waqas@worqas

For public record. Attached is the statement they forced my younger brother to sign. Imp to add that this statement and the act of forcibly extracting it is illegal in not only Pakistani law but various intl treaties.

🚨 IMPORTANT/URGENT: Yesterday Maryam Nawaz sent police to my parents house in Karachi because I broke the story that her son used a Govt plane for a private trip to Europe. My family was harassed and the police coerced a statement from my parents that they will be responsible

No @RepTomSuozzi, this was anything but an "honest conversation". Your role as co-chair of the Pakistani caucus is to advocate for the Pakistani people, not hobnob with representatives of a fascist regime @PakinUSA and overlook its systemic human rights abuses. Please stop pretending this is the way "to build a better future" for Pakistan. You are only enabling authoritarianism and are therefore complicit.
Tom Suozzi@RepTomSuozzi

Today, we gathered experts from around the world to discuss the U.S.-Pakistani relationship, its history, current security and economic concerns, and how to build a better future. Thank you, Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh, Assistant Secretary of State Dr. Paul Kapur, and my Co-Chair of the Pakistan Caucus, Congressman Bergman (R-MI), for kicking off a productive, honest conversation.

Another DC “Pakistan symposium” pushing investment and security while ignoring human rights, military interference, and transnational repression targeting U.S. citizens. Any conversation that sidelines democracy is a nonstarter. You can’t claim to support the community while ignoring these realities—that’s not leadership, that’s providing cover for the Pakistan military. @RepTomSuozzi should explain why he won’t sign human rights letters but hosts events like this. @MichaelKugelman @Alliance4PJ @ryangrim @DropSiteNews suozzi.house.gov/media/press-re…

Today my client @imrankhanpti’s son @kasim_khan_1999 delivered a powerful message to the @UN #HumanRightsCouncil in #Geneva demanding the release of his Dad and all political prisoners in #Pakistan.
Kasim Khan@Kasim_Khan_1999

Today, I had the honour of speaking to the 47 countries that comprise the @UN #HumanRightsCouncil urging the immediate release of my father @imrankhanpti and all #Pakistan’s #politicalprisoners. Along with this, I want to be very clear. Like my father, I fully support maintaining GSP+ as the people of #Pakistan should never be punished for the actions of its leaders. But the Pakistani regime must also fully comply with the 27 treaties it committed to follow to obtain this benefit, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Convention Against Torture. @UN @ptiofficial #HumanRights #ImranKhanUnlawfullyDetained

PAKISTAN: It’s been nearly one year. Five Baloch activists, Mahrang Baloch, Bebarg Zehri, Beebow Baloch, Shah Jee Sibghat Ullah and Gulzadi Baloch, remain in unlawful pretrial detention on trumped up charges simply for their peaceful activism. Inside Hudda Jail, Quetta, the activists are facing a secret trial in prison. They are also being denied adequate healthcare, with Mahrang’s health deteriorating significantly in detention. Amnesty International calls on the Balochistan authorities to immediately release all Baloch activists and drop all charges against them. 👉 Join our call for urgent action. 📝 amn.st/BalochActivist #ReleaseMahrangBaloch #ReleaseBalochActivists

My sons Sulaiman & @kasim_khan_1999 applied for visas in January (again… ) to allow them to visit their father @ImranKhanPTI in Pakistan. The Pakistan consulate states that online visa processing normally takes 7–10 working days. It has now been 60 days. This despite the public promise that they could safely travel there to see their father after 4 years, made by both Defence Minister @khawajaMAsif to @mehdirhasan & PM spokesperson @mosharrafzaidi to @SkyYaldaHakim Meanwhile, they are not allowed to speak to him on the phone, nor send him a letter. They haven’t seen him since 2022 after he was shot in an assassination attempt. This is an appeal directly to Pakisan’s PM @CMShehbaz to please allow Imran Khan’s two sons to see their father asap, particularly since, by all accounts, his health is in decline.

🚨 MAJOR DEVELOPMENT ON TRANSNATIONAL REPRESSION - The world is now taking notice of Pakistan’s escalating campaign against exiled journalists and dissidents. FreedomHouse's (@freedomhouse) new reporting features Pakistan’s escalating campaign of transnational repression against exiled journalists and dissidents. • Journalists sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment • National ID documents canceled for critics abroad • Physical attacks in the UK against exiled Pakistani voices now under investigation This is not just domestic repression — it is cross-border intimidation. 🔗 freedomhouse.org/article/tnr-wa… #Pakistan #PressFreedom #TransnationalRepression #HumanRights @soldierspeaks @MoeedNj @ShazadAkbar @SSEHBAI1 @sufisal @UN_HRC @UNHumanRights @amnestysasia @amnestyusa @BenMLinden @StateDept @State_SCA

Update: Canada-Pakistani PhD Scholar Faces Legal Crisis as Bail Appeal Heads to Sessions Court The case of Hamza Ahmad Khan, Canadian-Pakistani PhD scholar at the University of Toronto, has escalated to the Sessions Court following a controversial rejection of bail by a judicial magistrate Muhammad Naeem Wattoo. The development raises serious questions about due process and the weaponization of cybercrime laws in Pakistan. Khan was allegedly abducted by in Lahore on February 19, 2026, and held without a warrant for three days before being formally presented to the NCCIA court on February 22. On February 27, Magistrate Naeem Wattoo rejected Khan's bail following several irregularities in the proceedings including illegal, warrantless search of Khan’s phone, failure of prosecution to present records on time and the absence of prosecutor in court. Magistrate Wattoo conducted what the defense calls a "mini-trial”, and inappropriately cited precedents involving serious crimes like murder and fraud to deny bail to a student. Defense counsel argued that established precedents from the Lahore High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan mandate bail in cases involving online speech. Wattoo’s order contradicts the limited scope of a bail hearing, which is meant to assess procedural grounds, not to determine guilt. The bail appeal has been admitted for hearing on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Khan's family and legal team maintain he is not a flight risk and intends to clear his name. Khan’s case has become a flashpoint for international concerns regarding human rights and academic freedom. We urge the international community, human rights organizations, and the Canadian government to monitor the March 3 hearing closely. #ReleaseHamzakk @CanadianPM @canHCpakistan @GlobalAffairsCA @anitaanandMP @UNHumanRights @ryangrim @cbcnews @nytimes

Pakistan: Human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha have been behind bars for one month now, simply for exercising their right to freedom of expression. They were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment under Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act on 24 January 2026 for social media posts on X. The Pakistani authorities must quash their convictions and immediately and unconditionally release Imaan and Hadi. Imaan and Hadi have been targeted for speaking up and defending the rights of others. Now, they need our actions to help defend their rights. Demand their release. #Pakistan: The Committee to Protect Journalists alongside 17 other press freedom and human rights organizations have written to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging his government to take immediate steps to uphold the country’s constitutional and international obligations to protect press freedom. In a joint letter, the groups said recent legal and institutional developments, coupled with persistent failures to ensure accountability for attacks on journalists, have contributed to an increasingly hostile environment for members of the press.
